  • I wanted to make some new rolling stock for my trains so I designed a simple boxcar and gondola wagon. The goal was to keep things simple and use as few parts as possible to keep costs down.

I always love these builds - please keep doing them. I like the functionality that you obtain from such simple designs. My own rolling stock builds always end up over complicated, over weight, and over priced. But they look nice... 😁

Thanks! I've been on the lookout for simple design ideas but often hit a roadblock with trying to keep things economical.

Your videos where you show simple and affordable cars are the best. I’ve copied you many times.

Good looking cars with a pretty simple technique. I like it.

I’m impressed! I really enjoy your dedication to create those in a way that it’s easy to make them for anyone- it’s tough to decide between quantity and quality, but you put both of those into those designs!
Also you may have talked about it in another video, but what is your opinion on the 8 stud wide trains??

Thanks! I love the detail that can be put into 8 wide trains but it's not for me. I'm limited on space and it's also a lot cheaper to just stick to 6 wide.

Could you do a video comparing 12V and 9V?

I only have one 12v train and it's from the blue era. It was never released in the US so I have to import pretty much everything I get. For now I just don't have the 12v trains and experience with them to make a video comparing them

Those cars look really good, through some number stickers on them and the will really pop.

Ah yeah, I'll have to look through my stickers or see about ordering some 🤔

Geez you sound like jabbo can't remember what you ordered

I won't say I never forget ordering things 😅, but I will say the order with the extra parts was a weird one. When I reached out to the seller they said the 2x2 white tiles were a free gift and 4x4 blue plates were "packing material" 🤷‍♂️

I am impressed with your builds. I am a newbie at this nearly 30 years after buying our first LEGO for my daughters. My question is how do you know what parts to order, and where do you order from? Is there an inventory system i could use to buy the parts in packs like you do? And how do I get the instructions to build??

The instructions are linked in the description, the last few pages will have a list of the parts in the build. The parts list is also available on Rebrickable and can be imported to Bricklink. Bricklink is a site for buying and selling individual Lego parts. Some are actual stores that also sell online, some are just Lego fans who make some extra money selling parts. There are probably some videos out there getting started with Bricklink and learning how it works. Depending on what you are building you may have to order from multiple sellers to get all the parts needed.

TQ for your instant reply. U must be at your PC in the evening while we are waking up in the morning. I have retrieved and unpacked our 9v Airport Shuttle and the 9v Load Haul train system. I am going to set it up and make it work. Thinking ahead that i might need help to reassemble everything or replace damaged portions. Or to add on some bogeys !!! :)

Nice! If you are a discord user there are tons of Lego fans in our chat that can help with that kind of stuff. If any of the 9v wires are in need of repair I have videos on that as well
