  • An in-depth walkaround of the new Morgan Super 3
The new Morgan Super 3 shares a lot of its looks with our old favourite the 3 Wheeler, but under the skin things have changed. The engine is now on the inside and air-cooled and rather than a vee-twin derived from a Harley engine it’s now a 1.5-litre Ford engine producing 120PS (88kW) and 150Nm (110lb ft). The new car will do 0-62mph in seven seconds, exactly the same as the old one, because it now weighs more.
But will it still have the same soul as the 3 Wheeler? Moving from air-cooled to liquid cooled, exterior-mounted engine to interior and with digital dials for the first time will this be as instantly iconic? Our Motoring Editor Seán Ward visited Morgan to get full details on its latest sports car.

Close enought for me, with so many new pollution and safety rules it was obvious that (sadly) the air cooling had to go. But the fact that a new three-wheeler exists its enought on itself.
I would like analog dials tho.

No. Looks wise it was all about the V twin and the styling. This is a modern car with three wheels, where the old one tried to recreate what came before with modern parts but authentic design, for the most part. With the new design they may as well go full modern and stick a fourth wheel on it.

Have to admit, the engine being on the outside and the vee-twin was one of my favourite things, so I'm not totally sold yet. Not sure if it looks differnt enough for that amount of change.

I was a huge fan of the previous 3 Wheeler and a lot of that was due to the unique powerplant and sound, with the vintage interior being another big reason. This new one I think looks better on the outside, but it sacrifices far too much of the charm of the old one.

Love it. Looks great, and in my eyes, better than the old one (which oozes charm, but has some obvious compromises...). Did the awesome configurator and found several combos that were too cool! I don't think it'll be a stretch to assume it will be a much better drive than the old one, and will be more useful more of the time - and nothing wrong with that! Nicely done, Morgan!

I would like to see analog gauges, the lever switches are great. The V2 engine is an aesthetic I miss along with the external exhaust, however that said, just glad the idea still exists. Would I have one? Yes indeed.

That is a beautiful vehicle. Morgan really did a nice job integrating that new engine into the vehicle but retaining the original look of the Morgan 3 wheeler. Without a doubt one of the nicest Morgan "3"'s ever created. A worthy successor to a long history of 3 wheelers for Morgan. This would be the perfect vehicle for those weekend getaways. The fact they have integrated those hangers on the "side blades" (which look spectacular by the way) and the ability to hang both duffle bags and hard cases onto the side really add to the usability and practicality of the vehicle. And the rear rack you can put onto it also adds much needed space for carrying your needed items. This makes a perfect "open top" car for those who don't want a motorcycle but want to enjoy the roads in a similar manner as motorcycle riders. Much more stable than a motorcycle and the passengers sit in nice comfortable seats side by side rather than front and back like a motorcycle. NICE JOB MORGAN!

I have a 2017 M3W and I wouldn't swap it for anything. Having said that, this new model is completely brilliant. It takes three wheeling into the core of the 21st century. The last model caught the attention of the public. It is SO 1919/1930's. The new car is invoking another era, almost Art deco meets the fifties. In my Morgan I am Biggles. In the new one I would be Dan Dare. This latest offering will build on the buzz of the M3W and get a whole new generation of people into three wheeling. Any one who has driven ANY three wheeler will tell you that it is a unique and awesome way to travel. i use mine most days. It makes me laugh out load and grin like an idiot. More folks need to experience this. Cars are boring and bikes are dangerous. Hearing the designer of this amazing car explain how they had used legislation compliance to their advantage in designing the super 3 gave me great hope for Morgan's future in the years to come. ... I want one.

This is the reason that I jumped on getting one of the last V-Twin powered 3 wheelers in 2021 and I am so glad that I did. I was pretty sure that if Morgan even produced the next model that it would loose much of the character, charm and attraction that the engine presence provides. A digital dash and a
GPS display...really...why? I'm thinking perhaps would have been best to focus on incorporating a driveshaft final drive and adjustable seating. I don't see the attraction or excitement for the unattractive luggage options and mounting systems either. Who uses their 3 wheeler for long trips anyway, at least here in the United States? I considered purchasing a Vanderhall in 2021. I don't feel the new Morgan betters the Vanderhall anymore. I do give Morgan credit for continuing to produce the 3 wheeler though. I like seeing a variety of unique and fun vehicles available.

The only disadvantage I see is the use of a inline-3 instead of an inline-4. I say this because three pots become a maintenance nightmare due to their inherent unequal ignition, which causes vibration and thus premature bearing wear.
So, if it had an option for a four-pot like the Miata, then I too would have zero reasons not to consider it over others.

I like most everything about it. However using superformed aluminum for the chassis seems needlessly expensive. That process is great for getting the complex shapes desired for the body, but it comes at a price. The Morgan Aero8 chassis is is made up primarily of flat sheets of aluminum with straight bends, which is much less expensive to fabricate. As a tall person, I am concerned that bringing the engine behind the front axle has probably reduced the leg room even more than its predecessor. All said, I am very happy they are moving into the future with a 3 wheeler that is petrol powered.

A refreshing update of the Morgan three-wheeler that was actually long overdue. Given all the charm and nostalgia of the V-Twin three-wheeler, this reimagination of the icon makes so much sense for a driveable, enjoyable and practical alternative to four-wheeled sports cars and two-wheeled or three-wheeled motorcycles. The proof of this design will come in the driving, but even with the extra weight, double the horsepower of the historic icon makes this version a strong contender for iconic status.

I think some of your figures are a bit out if the S&S wedge head only made 67bhp and weighed 587 compared to 120 and 635 it would be very hard to believe that they would do the same time to 60mph. The v twin makes 82 and weighs 525 now it starts to be a bit more believable that they could do the same time and Morgan back in the thirties had made three wheelers with four cylinder water cooled engines they weren't all v twins.

Forget the torque and bhp figures, it's the delivery of the torque that's important. Why are four-stroke singles much preferred to two-strokes for mud-plugging? It's called low-down torque, the sort you need in a traffic-light GP. And let's not forget the delightful exhaust boom of a V-twin.
So you can stick your Ford 3-cylinder water-cooled motor where the sun don't shine...which is what the new Morgan has done too, hidden it away from where it's assembly line looks might put people off.
And not a louvre in sight...
PS. Can you tell I don't like this excuse for a price-hike?
