This TRAIL ARM Move Will TRANSFORM Your Ball Striking

- Talking 'golf swing' the other day with a student and she asked, 'Which part of the swing do amateurs do poorly that the pro' do really well?'
My answer to that question is what inspired me to make this video. There are lots of differences between pro's and amateurs but how the trail arm moves is a huge one!!
It's actually quite rare for me to see a golfer who uses their trail arm really well and efficiently, it often has a poor movement during the backswing and then it's likely to be less than ideal during the downswing.
The super simple drills in this video however will change all that and help you move your arm much more like the pro's do and this trail arm move could well transform your ball striking.

Top video Chris. Once again demonstrating why you’re the best coach on UA-cam in my opinion. You have a knack of explaining complex techniques in such a simple and helpful way. Thanks for such great advice.
Chris, I am not exaggerating when I say that this video clarified so many things for me. It transformed my swing, but especially my trail arm and wrist angles.
Excellent video, and explanation about one of key elements on correct golf club movement, Thanks for sharing
Well done Chris, great demo.
Excellent job Chris on explaining the correct movement of the right arm! I am very much an advocate of the right arm folding and unfolding in the golf shot. You can't believe how much this has transformed my game! Keep up the good work Chris!
Great to hear John and agree it’s so important
Love the video, great explanations
Great explanation Crist, thanks
Excellent video! Thank you! I’m going to work on this today!
Hope it helps 🙏🏻
Excellent video. This is one of the key fundamentals in golf.
I agree Jamie, super important
Great video. Thank you.
Fantastic lesson
Great instruction delivery, & a frosty morning as I saw your breath! Hip rotate, arm drops & lags!
Seems like it’s always frosty Charles, looking forward to some warmer weather
Great video, every point made was spot on.
Thanks Paul
Off to the yard tonight to try these drills!
Thanks Chris.
Hope it helps
Very well explained tutorial!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Great lesson
Another easy to follow video.
Thanks Jim
Absolute Gold !!!
Thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks Chris, I'm also very curious as to the proper position of the trail arm at address, particularly the direction of the inside of the elbow? Maybe you've done a video on this?? The reason being is I've noticed i only hit the very sweetest crispiest most delicious shots when that trail elbow is practically pointing down at address or rather the biceps are practically pointing towards sky. From what i understand this is called forearm supination. And this move slightly opens the club face at address but apparently leads everything on a perfect path bc fyi pretty good ball striker without this move, but seemingly perfect strikes only come with it.
That’s me Chris 100% didn’t know I was doing it, thanks for your explanation it could change my game completely
Thanks and glad it’s helped 🙏🏻
Well done Chris 👏 😊
Thanks Roy
Great video Chris
Thanks Graeme
...if I lived in the UK I would 'pay' Chris Ryan a visit or three in person. Thanks for your series of videos.
I was very lucky to attend two golfing trips with Chris (and Davis Aliestar). In Spain and Portugal. And that's where I took most benefits in studying golf in years. Fantastic player and an even better coach. The main conclusion from the trips is that you can't learn golf by just watching youtube, unfortunately. I believe, guys like Chris know this, so are perfectly ready to share all the secrets here)))
U.K. is wet and windy at the moment Mark so definitely don’t want to be living here at the moment 😁
OH MY GOODNESS - The second drill is SO hard! I can’t get the club head past my alignment stick, let alone the two golf balls. Thanks for the video and the drills, Chris. This is a drill that I will do everyday..
Try feeling like your maintain the shape of the arms at the top of the backswing as long as you can into downswing, the arms then unfold naturally with gravity. Note im not saying hold the wrist angle, instead feel like youre holding angle between biceps and forearms. Check out Dan Martin 'shape of arms' for more on it.
@@Aaron-vb4nq Thanks for the tip Aaron! I will check out Dan Martin. And i’m assuming this is the same for all of the clubs, drivers, woods, etc..
Thanks Chris
Thanks 🙏🏻
This guy is awesome!!!
Thanks Micheal 🙏🏻
I've been swinging real "hard" but not seeing club head speed increase. Let's see if this help! Thanks for the drill!
Hope it makes a difference for you Robert
Nice drill Chris, not so easy I would think for some because the club will feel heavy using only one hand. I would be interested in a good practice drill to include hitting balls on the range or practice nets with only 10-15 minutes before you tee off.
Hey Ray, I agree that would be useful, would be nice if we all had perfect ranges and an hour to loosen up but the reality is it’s often just a few minute as you say.
Does this apply to driver as well?
So in the down swing should one pull with the left arm/hand, or throw with the right hand/arm?
The reality is that it will be a combination of the two, but each player may benefit from ‘feeling’ one more than the other, but would depend on the swing

Where’s that sweater/jumper from?
It’s a Lyle & Scott jumper
I can hit one arm shots all day but when I add the lead arm I go back to casting and the right arm extending to early.
You need to practice some swings with left hand only. Your faults will show up very quickly. Once you figure it out…. Just combine the feels with both hands on the club. I’m thinking it’s probably your wrist conditions are wrong, with the lead arm. You’ll need to feel “knuckles down” through impact on your left hand, to strike the ball good. You may even need to slightly change your left hand grip a bit, if your ball start direction is off, when swinging with left hand only. These one hand swings drills are perfect for diagnosing faults. Trust me.
Maybe just need a few steps in between then. Maybe add the lead arm but keep the speed down, once that feels ok addd the speed back slowly
At the 3:09 mark most golfers twist the club inside. Need to understand the hinge better.
This is a disconnected approach. You build the swing from the ground up, not top down. Build a braced address and focus on building the triangle in which the elbows point down throughout the swing. You have are representing a complicated approach to the golf swing and how it should work. Big muscles drive the swing not the hands and arms. Been a PGA Professional for 20 years and I have never found and easier way to move the club outside of the Hogan approach. Jimmy Ballard was and is a great teach folks. Simply pull up his UA-cam and start enjoying a very simple approach to the swing. Works every time.
You seem to be disagreeing with a point that I didn’t make. Where did I say you build the swing from the top down or that the bigger muscles don’t control the movement? If someone asked me how the head should move through the swing and I answered, that doesn’t mean that I believe you build the swing from the head down, I actually agree with most of your points
@@ChrisRyanGolf you just don’t understand connection…that’s all.
