THIS TRAIL ARM MOVE WILL TRANSFORM YOUR BALL STRIKING

  • Good golfers manage to compress their irons. They rarely hit the ground before the ball and when it comes to driver they know exactly how to hit driver straight.
Despite many of them having very different looking golf swings they all tend to have one thing in common...they know how the trial arm works in the golf swing.
Learning to understand and feel how the right arm works in the golfs swing can really help your impact position and there for ball striking for both you iron shots and your driver swing.

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On UA-cam and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Looking at this video Danny, am I right in saying that when the hands reach the point in the downswing where the club is parallel to the target line, and the right palm is facing up the club is squared by rotating the shoulders and pivoting towards the target line and not by turning the hands?

The killer of any thesis is plagiarism. Taking credit for another’s work is not only unethical it’s cheating. This video is the perfect example of taking another’s work, crediting them for their findings and adding to that body of knowledge with your own findings. From here on I will know you as Dr. Danny.
Whether this is the best video you have done is up to debate but it’s the best video for me at this time. Thanks Dr. Danny!

I watched a Martin Chuck video on this before in happened onto this video. This was a game changer for me. I had no power in my swing until I did this. This is how you get compression. My length on my irons changed dramatically, I am hitting my 7 iron 25 yards further.

Went to the range today and hit 2 large buckets of balls, 180 in total. I worked my way through the bag practicing this technique. I cannot say the change was instant, but it did start coming together. I am picking my irons more cleanly and with longer flights. My woods actually started to go straight and even draw! Normally I never see the left side of the golf course as a right handed player. It is a foreign feeling, tucking in the elbow, but it's definitely making a difference. Thank you so much!!

I’m two years late on this, but I’m laughing hysterically because I saw the same Chris Ryan video a few days ago before seeing this one - just like your father. This video just popped on my timeline so it’s a funny coincidence that my experience was similar to your Dad’s. This is a great complementary video to Chris’s as seeing you do the “pivot” finally made the light bulb go off. I also like the “rock the baby” and “spearing” drills to get the sensation of what the feels like. Great video!

Danny, being a master of inconsistency in my golf swing, I find I using my feet, which you stress at the end, and my legs, has been a big help in my distance and accuracy. And of course, combined with the timing of the hips and shoulders.
My golf was awful yesterday, but reviewing this video and practicing along with it will certainly help me to become less inconsistent.
    Thanx, Danny.

I saw that Chris Ryan video and immediately recognized where you were going. What you added was "rock the baby" and "spear motion" which I think are great. These are consistent with your video on chipping where you used the feeling of loosening and tightening a jar top. I use that thought many times when taking practice swings just before exeuting the chip shot Great symbolism.

Hi Danny. I agree with all that you are saying as being the effects of a great golf swing; but recently at age 73 I am keeping things very simple for myself. My backswing is simply a 2 and 1/2 inch pull back of the muscles of my trail scapula towards my spine as Alison Thietje taught 20 years ago and my downswing is simply a pushing of my upper trail arm against my trail rib cage all the way to the finish of my swing.
All the pieces in my upper and lower body simply falls into place as my ball simply gets in the way of my swing.
Hope you look her up. Cheers

I stumbled on Chris Ryan's video on this subject a couple of weeks back and have to say it turned out to be the main piece of the jigsaw puzzle that was still missing from my golf swing. Thanks to the content such as Chris's, Danny's and many other creators on YT, I've put in place so many pieces of the puzzle over the last 2 years since I've been playing but got to a point recently where most of my shots, irons in particular, felt good, but were drawing or even hooking inexplicably to the left. This trail arm advice has been a breakthrough for me and has opened up new paths to improve my performance.

Danny, I see this as an essential element in the golf swing that is often missing with many amateur golfers including me. When I have seen slow-motion swings of good golfers you can definitely see the elbow leading, and that has been mentioned in so many videos and instructional books. However, there almost appears to be a reluctance to do this for fear of not hitting the ball with any power and so the active, flipping hands come into play, whereas in truth its compression that is required but frequently missing. Great instruction on this element of the swing and most certainly one to continually practise and understand. If we cant do this then we will never strike the ball correctly. Interesting to see the simple body rotation where left heel comes off the ground. Thats much easier for us oldies. Many Thanks, Rich

Great video Danny, a cool follow up would be part 2 for the lead arm connection and fold after impact? I struggled with this!

The trail arm is absolutely key to a great golf swing. I've worked really hard on this through the past year or 2. Love your videos Danny. Better than Chris Ryan's.

Yeah Danny, Chris Ryan, Russell Heritage and loads more competition out there but with nearly 400000 subscribers, I think it’s safe to say you’re pretty popular and with good reason. Quality videos, easy to understand and with great drills to help everyone. This one relates with me as I have a tendency to sit on my heels too much. I need to get rocking.

Finally! A clear explanation of golf swing wrist action! I kept hearing about "supination" and "release" and other nebulous terms that caused me to break the downswing into too many moving parts, which caused me to totally lose direction and power on the course. All I needed to know was the proper position of the right wrist at impact combined with proper hip movement. Thank you, again, Danny, for keeping it simple!

I usually practice A LOT, often at home in my entrance halI. Yesterday I had a terrible round and I wondered if my training really added anything of value to become a better golfer. For some reason when opening the web this morning this instruction was on my screen without looking. I practiced along and went out to the training field just with my PW. And it all fell into place after some 10 minutes. I realised that this practice, in a sense a bit untraditional, seems to be one of the most important instructions you have ever shared. It really helped getting a feel for the basic swing. I am a previous "upper body" golfer due to a severe left knee injury, practicing now to become a "lower body golfer" and found that this move didnt hurt at all. A thing I experienced though was that it is a large step between step 2 and 3, and I found out that just adding a step between where I turned the club shaft holding the club face and swinging before swinging ordinary helped to bridge into step 3. Thanks a lot Danny for sharing all your expertise with us and always in such a pedagogic way!

Danny finally I see a good explanation of the whole motion. My pro's have not been able sofar in all my lessons to explain the motion so clearly. They always talked about lag and keeping my hands behind the ball but never explained the simpel and natural motion. Great, going to work on it tomorrow on the driving range !

Awesome video Danny! This is something I have been focusing on in my at home drills in the back yard....keeping the trail arm in position for better ball striking AND accuracy (no slices, no hooks). Your video has added the missing tabs to make this a complete exercise and fully repeatable motion. That is it the key - make it repeatable with a 3:1 tempo. Thanks again for your work on providing practical golf lessons.

I never thought much about my trail arm. I’ve always focused on the lead, and weight transfer. I’m going out golfing in a hour, gonna keep this in mind, and try it out on the driving range, before my round.
    Right on Danny.

Hi Danny, great guidance as usual. I felt like my right elbow was flying a little loose lately and so I took this tip to the warm up for our weekly club event this morning. The only thing you failed to warn about was inadvertently picking up 10-15 yards on my club distances! But more importantly, I didn’t hit one fat shot today! Thanks again!
