- The horn in my 2013 Mazda has to go. Although it still makes noise, it is no where near loud enough anymore, and quite frankly sounds pretty embarrassing. The total DIY savings on this job was about $130 Canadian.

The Mazda dealer in Asheville NC quoted me 300 + to do this job for me. I'll keep my money and try it myself. Thanks for the quick video. 🤘🏻
Wow...300 usd?
That's really high.
My horn sounds just like that rn. I’m going to change it and come back w an update. Thank you for uploading!!
best of luck with the replacement.
Thanks. Your solution inspired me.
My horn didn't work and i checked the fuse but couldn't find the relay. So I decided to see if the horn was getting voltage, but I didn't know where it was and it looked like I had to take off the whole front end of the car. But when i saw your video, I saw where the horn is and before disassembling half the front end, I found the wire going to the horn, cut off a slice of the insulation, put a meter on it and verified that the horn is getting voltage.
Now that I know that the horn is bad, I have more incentive to pry only half the front end off, as you show. I was afraid it was the clock spring, because the autopilot stopped, then started to work. I guess I'm good for a while yet with that. But thanks for helping me see my way.
Good luck with your horn. It's a pretty fast and easy fix. Only need basic hand tools as well
Hey! That was my car her horn went completely out. Sounding like she had a bad cold. Lol. I just remembered I saw another one of your videos, maybe one on doing a coolant flush. Your videos are so great! Thank you!
Thanks for checking out the videos. I hope they were helpful.
Man this is great! And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with a horn that went weak and then died! Super helpful!
Thanks for watching. Overall a pretty cheap and easy repair.
Been looking for horn replacement vid specifically for a 2013 mazda 3. Thank man.
Thanks for checking out my video. It's very easy to replace yourself.
$150.00 no way buddy that's why I do the job my self like you are doing VERY NICE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The savings by doing the work that doesn't require highly specific and expensive tools is insane. Sometimes it's even worth buying an expensive tool such as an OBD II reader to do a job yourself.
Thanks for posting. Great version of replacing.
Thanks for watching.
Same thing happened to the horn on my 2011 model. When I got the car, I was shocked to hear that my horn sounded that crappy. About a month later, I replaced it with a high tone freeway blaster. Much louder and easily get’s someone’s attention.
The Mazda 3 horn sounds so weak when it starts to die. It's almost embarrassing to hit the door lock button.
I did this on my 2011 and I found something that MAY be easier. If you have skinny arms like myself, you should be able to squeeze in with a small rachet behind the driver's headlight and avoid removing any panels all together. If you are dexterous you may want to backhand it to take the nut off all the way after breaking loose.
It is a tight fit, so you better not drop anything if you do this! If you do, you will just have to loosen/remove that lower panel.
Thanks for providing that recommendation.
OMG thank you! Mine recently died!
Thanks for watching
VERY interesting video - my Mazda3 (BM) horn is very weak, but not dying (yet). Since i'm a total noob on working on a car:
would you happen to know if the stock-horn can be replaced by a stronger one?
Yes they make different tones. And there may be differences in db level.
You can also wire more than one horn up though I have never done that
how did you know i have a 2013 mazda 3 with a busted horn?!
lol....it seems pretty common. The other one is window rattle which is my next project if the weather holds out.
@@DIYNorth thank you for doing the lords work 🙏
Thanks for DIY vid....it was very helpful.
thanks for watching
Extremely helpful thanks boss 🙏🏽
thanks for watching.
I am having a few issues with my mazda3 2010. Ima check fuse an relay
horn issues?
Same. My horn has now randomly stopped working for a 3rd time without any warning and without sounding like it’s dying. Unfortunately for us, it seems the 2010 is the worst year from what I’ve read.
How many volts is the stock horn
Not sure but I would assume 12 v. The horn I got as a replacement is still working fine with no issues.
How come on Amazon it says does not fit my car
I have no idea, but I can say that I am still using the horn 2 years later.
It might not be the identical horn I guess.
But it should work then right I have exact car 2013 mazda 3
I cant promise anything, but it absolutely worked for me. They make different note versions, but I'm pretty sure the connections are all pretty similar if not the same.
My Mazda3 has a weak ass horn and it sounds normal
Might upgrade to a more powerful horn
More power is more better
My horn works just fine, I just want a loudass third party horn.
Its louder. You can also wire up more than one if you wanted to.
You make the same mistake most people do when calculating cost of DIY repair.... you pay no respect to the cost of your time, which can never be recovered... and it IS valuable. So, take how much you earn in your real job and do the math. You now have an ACCURATE amount of how much it cost to repair it yourself! I'd be willing to bet the savings, while real, are far lower than what you imply!
Lol..I do NOT make that mistake. I tell you the cost and the time...that's it. Its not my responsibility to tell you if that is worth your individual time or not. That is for you as an individual to figure out. I also don't know what you have in your garage for tools, or how long it takes you to drive to and from the store, or how much gas you will burn doing that. The savings are $120 for this job and it takes about 20 minutes. That's $360 / hr. I'm not here to tell you if your time is worth that or not. Since minimum wage is way below that I assume for most people the answer is a resounding yes, it is very much worth doing it themselves. How much I earn in my job is irrelevant since I don't take time off work to do this. Would I work for $120 for 20 minutes on a week-end...yes, absolutely.
The whole idea is kind of irrelevant though, because when people take their car to the garage for a one hour repair they usually just sit there, drink crappy coffee, and stare blankly at their iPhone. The time wasted from your life is nearly identical, and therefore can be ignored in most circumstances. By doing it yourself you do save money, and you also learn something about your own vehicle which alone is worth doing some jobs yourself all by itself.
