Thanks for these videos. My bluetooth stopped working on my original HU so I decided to upgrade. Hadn't done anything like this before, so I wouldn't have bought the thing without your help.
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate that! Sorry to hear about your oem HU but this will be a nice upgrade for you. Let me know if you have any questions installing the Hu or backup cam.
Commenting to save this video for later, I have a 2013 Mazda 3 and will be trying to install a rear view camera fairly soon
Awesome, it’s a great upgrade to have.
@@D_Spear is it better to do at Mazda dealer? How much do they charge to install back up camera? I have 2013 Mazda 3 has less than 50k miles but main problem is no back up camera.
Great video! Helping a lot
This was super helpful. Thanks
Removing that 12V cig outlet was challenging for sure. Got it all done though. CarPlay through there works great now. Thanks for the video. One note. For an automatic you need it in reverse to get that canopy off.
Yeah it’s a pain to remove for some reason! Thanks for the tip for those who have automatics and I appreciate the view 👍
Install red and negative wire but little Led turns on but no picture on stereo
Did you change any of the camera settings on the stereo? I just got my camera installed and the image is not great.
I did not, is it grainy looking?
@@D_Spear yeah it looks like 2007 Motorola phone is filming
@@CourtneyHawkins I’m thinking maybe you need to make sure your video connections are good, if not sounds like a defective camera.
Thank you
did exactly what you did and the unit still won't show the reverse camera when i go into reverse, i have to manually open the camera app to see the reverse camera feed. but it definitely doesn't pop up automatically when i go into reverse and i don't get why yours does
what model of eonon radio did you buy?
@@D_Spear i just got a generic one from ebay, but i figured it out. i had to wire the spare red wire on the camera feed to the reverse/back wire on the head unit and then had to splice the other spare camera feed wire with the positive wire on the power cable that connects to your reverse light. hopefully others see this cause i don't think other videos show that, must be a non eonon head unit thing
Do u know which ones work for a 2010 mazda 3???
Nice video
Thanks man. Have you still been thinking about looking into being an electrician?
Yes. I am still interested in becoming an electrician. I looked at the local community college that has a program but unfortunately they are only accepting students every other Fall semester. I’ll have to inquire if they’ll be accepting this year. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks! 🤙🏼
How do you know when to stop and if the camera can survive with water
The lines in the camera indicate how close you are to an object. And the camera is ip65 rated I wanna say. So it’s built for the weather.
Türkçesi lazım
Hi, just wanted to thank you for the great video- I just installed my new Enon and backup cam for my daughter and the tips on the video were awesome! Much appreciated
Awesome, thanks for the feedback it’s much appreciated!
Had a bit of a rough time trying to figure out why the camera wasn’t turning on in reverse. Screenshot 11:03 was vital. Thanks for the upload bro, saved me a lot of money.
Thanks for taking the time to record this video! I was able to install a backup camera on my 2011 Mazda 3 by following your instructions!!
I’m glad you were able to get it installed! Thanks for watching!
I just installed Eonons Android 12 unit with the back up camera. To make things easy, fishing wire through, I used a piece of old coax cable taping the ends together to pull up the cables, same from the back seat to the trunk. My head unit had a 12+ volt pigtail for power tie in built in. I connected the red pigtail with the video cable end together and the camera worked. No need to tie into the reverse lights. Save the extra step. Otherwise, get tutorial. Definitely helped me with the routing!
Awesome, glad yours had that!
So in the trunk all you had to do was ground it? I’ll be installing mine this weekend and I have the pigtail you’re talking about so if I can save some time with the wiring I’d really appreciate it lol
@@kwasiagyeman-ym9ow did u manage to figure this out?
Do you mean the red wire that is part of the plug to the head unit from the reverse camera? Does the camera only work in reverse?
Super helpful! Everything about installing this unit was easy but this part tripped me up, thank you!!
Absolute piece of junk. The camera that came free with the unit looks to be faulty because I can't get a picture. The unit is wired up correctly but the steering wheel controls don't work. I am getting a signal from the steering wheel but the unit will not recognise it. If I try select a model in factory settings it tells me "app not installed."
BUT the BIGGEST letdown is Apple CarPlay. The volume of the native radio is loud enough to be obnoxious but when using CarPlay it is so low as to be useless.
I purchased the unit direct from the company. The online "live chat" function always ends up like this
"The line is busy right now, please leave your message, we will reply to you asap. Thanks."
They do not reply to "support" emails and there is no phone number.
My money is lost. Don't loose yours.
Guys did anyone else have issues with one or more speakers not working? In my case it's the front passenger speaker bose system. Another weird problem I had is the bluetooth pairing mode. Phone and head unit see each other but can't successfully pair.
Great video, I just installed mine and it works great 🎉
Hey, what drill bit size did you use to make the pilot holes to mount the reverse camera?
How to identify reverse light wire.my camera have just one red wire ,other then the one coming from front.
Thanks for going to the trouble of taking apart your car again to show this -- very helpful!
I really appreciate the video. Did not know how to route the wire to the back up camera or about the wiring to the tail light. I cannot thank you enough
Awesome, glad I was able to help!
Thanks for the video. I’m thinking of installing in my sons 2012 hatchback. It’s nice to see your video. His fan for the air conditioner is needing replacing. Have you done this? It’s a bear I think.
Nice, I’m sure your son would like this upgrade. This unit isn’t super snappy but here I am a few years later still happy with mine. I have not done the blower motor yet, but I do suspect that would not be fun. Hopefully it’s been a good car for him, mine is still running and driving great
I have 2009 Mazda 3 2.0 Sport Sedan. I am having hard time how to install reverse backup camera on my car. I couldn't find reverse light wire. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks Spark Spear. Used your video today to install a reverse camera. Everything worked as expected.
Reuploaded due to a part of the video having slow motion 😂. It’s fixed now!
Perfect, thank you.
@Sparky did you have to take down the radio install itself? Sure I seen the video a few days ago but can’t see it now on your channel?
@@caolkyle I have not done a video on installing the radio. It’s honestly pretty easy and straight forward, reason why I didn’t make one.
Ah my mistake. It was the review video I was thinking of :)
Yeah was pretty straightforward, all the wires was intimidating and I still need to splice the rear view camera but was pretty easy as you said
Nice video man. Clean install. Congrats.
Thank you Sparky Spear! I've installed this same exact unit and back up on my 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback. I have an issue where when I put the car in reverse, the screen console switches to the reverse screen but only get an exclamation pint; no video; just the dashed lines and the exclamation point. Any idea what the issue may be or any advice on fixing this?
Weird, did you ever get any sort of backup
Video to work?
I'm having this exact issue with the yellow triangle exclamation mark and cannot figure out why
Good job !
Hi, loved the video, I’m just wondering if you can help, I’ve wired the camera up the same, and when reverse is selected it just comes up a black screen and says NO SIGNAL, Did you have to change any settings or anything??
Cheers steve
Make sure you pushed the wires inside the pins in the factory wiring very well. It sounds like it’s not getting a good connection.
I have a 2013 Mazda 3 I-Sport base If I put a aftermarket stereo will the display still work where the OEM radio FM tuner displays above? Also in the glove box is the USB & AUX IN can you tap in & use that? Can I tap in & use the factory bluetooth mic built into the vehicle also?
Are the parking guidelines generated by the eonon head unit? Can it be disabled if you forget to cut the wire in my reverse camera for parking guidelines.
My current setup seems to have two parking guidelines overlapping each other.
Where did you get your infotainment screen? I'm planning on getting a 2012 or 13 mazda 3 soon and I want to put a infotainment screen in . I just dont know where to get a legit one.
You can get it off eonon.com website or amazon. Thanks for this video mate! I bought a Joying head unit (similar to Eonon) and was able to install the camera on both my Mazda 3's easily (although the hatchback had a totally different trunk wiring layout). It's basically fully modernized my car, and the camera quality is great! :)
I totally agree, really made my 10 year old car up to date!
Really nice video. Thanks!
Good video. Does the front camera record at all times when the ignition is on, or even off. This way it auto records an accident and even an attempted break-in theft or vandalism?
It records at all times when the ignition is on or when the car is running. It is off when the car is off, it does have a g sensor in it, when it feels a bump it will record even when the ignition is off…pretty common for most dash cams. Thanks for watching!
Would you mind sharing the link to the usb cigarette lighter replacement you used?
it's in the description
I’m confused. When I click the link it doesn’t mention a backup camera.
The radio comes with a backup camera as a free gift.
Really really helpful! Purchasing a 2012 Mazda 3 on Monday, excited to get a backup cam installed. Cool idea on replacing the cigarette lighter with usb ports, definitely going to consider that.
Thanks for watching, highly recommend this radio! Such a good upgrade for the money, let me know if you have any questions about the car too! I’ve owned mine for 7 years so I’ve become pretty knowledgeable with them.
Nice bro. I have the same car and ran the CarPlay usb port through my center console
Totally thought about doing that, super clean install I’m sure!
Thank you!! Very informative ... do you think this method would work for a Mazda 3 2008? My car also has parktronic, do you think it would interfere?
Thanks for watching and your comment but this will only work for 2010-2013 mazda3 that I know if, my model is a 2012. The 2008 is a different generation but the wiring might be the same. What is parktronic?
By parktronic I mean active parking assist... I think I’m used to saying parktronic as it’s a Mercedes trademark for park assist, sorry. Hopefully the wiring is the same, I’ll be trying it and keep you informed if it works with older generations. Thanks!
Hey so I want to do this for my 2012 Mazda3, but the box doesn’t come with the plastic fitting into the dash right? I still have the stock radio installed
I tapped into the reverse light wire and still have no video? I double checked ground to ground and hot to hot
Can you charge the phone with one of the USB ports that you installed.
Yes it will charge your phone with both USB ports. If you decide to use the dash cam, that will use a USB port, so then you’ll only have one left
I just wired in my back up camera but I’m not getting the back up picture when I put it in reverse but the lights turn on on the camera. Just wondering if you have any ideas?
So if I use that black plastic cap, would you just drill a hole in it and leave it? It's not drilling thru metal that way. I still have to figure out how to get the camera cable from where it sticks to the cable under the car. I have a Mazda 2 and is not quite the same. And you don't connect the red wire behind the radio. I thought that goes to the brown reverse gear up front.
Can you do the same to a 2013 Mazda 3?
I don’t see why not, it wouldn’t make sense for Mazda to change the wiring coloring for the next model year.
Thanks for explaining the wiring. Really useful. And I did subscribe :-)
Thank you! Let me know if you have questions!
I liked your video that showed the routing of the wires. I dont understand the dangling red wire why doesnt connect to anything when the black wire goes from the radio to the trunk.
There are two wires that connect to the camera side of the wire, on the wiring to the radio you only need to connect the video wire. Let me know if that helps at all.
@@D_Speari dont get how yours worked, i did exactly what you did perfectly and yet the reverse camera doesn't automatically pop up when in reverse. i have to manually open the camera app to see the reverse camera feed, which yes only works while in reverse, i just have to manually open the app to view it, so i did something right. i'm thinking it does have something to do with the little red wires on the video feed cable
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed!
Let me know if you have any questions.
when you steer the steering wheel when in reverse does the guide lines curve?
It does not.
i decided to run the wires via passenger side instead but i still have yet to look at the wiring but was curious to know if id still be able to connect it via passenger side reverse light vs the driver side?
Ok
Very useful demonstration. Thanks.
I appreciate the feedback, thank you for watching.
I unscrewed the camera bracket and turned it the other way, so it can mounted on vertical wall of the bumper. This gives more liberty to rotate the angle up and down as desired.
@@wongmichael9659 that’s a pretty great idea. The camera sure is nice to have now.
Also how did you fix the camera to the car frame.
I used the screws that were included in the camera kit. Mounted it to the bumper
Do you know if that stereo works with the volume/seek buttons on the steering wheel?
Oh yes it works, the seek button is reversed but you can’t change the setting in the eonon unit.
@@D_Spear huh, good to know
Is this the hatchback model? Is the wiring same for hatchback?
Also I would like ti see the front video camera installation as well for the mazda 3
Okay, I can probably make a video this weekend for it!
@@D_Spear the thing i am most interested in is access to ceiling and side airbag panel
Where did you get the 2 usb adapter for the 12v?
I am installing the same backup cam. Was the power cable long enough to reach from camera to the place where you tapped, or did you have to extend it with additional wires?
It was long enough
I got the same camera and radio, unfortunately the wire that came that’s supposed to be wired into the reverse lights is too short, I put it through that drain plug.
Me too! How did you fix that?
Do you know anything about Joying head units?
Great video! Just wondering since I'm not experienced much in this, when you simply inserted the wires at about 11:10 before getting your Taps, how did you do it? Was it just cutting the plastic tips and inserting the copper straight through? Thanks if you even took the time to read this!
You just strip the wire back so that there is exposed conductors, and push the wire into the factory clip. You only need to strip back the wire about 1/8 inch or so.
@@D_Spear thanks for the quick reply! And according to your video, you just slide them in with the matching colored cable after exposing the conductor, right?
Yes, for a more permanent and cleaner install you’ll need to use t taps for the future, this will get you by until then!
@@D_Spear I saw you might have a video on that, I'm actually about to watch it. Thank you!
Where did you get your cigarette lighter at?
Hi Nice video man 👨
Thank you, please sub and like the video for more!
How is everyone mazda 3 can bus and volume function. Is is laggy at all ?
It’s laggy for sure, this unit isn’t the fastest but I’d rather have it compared to stock radio. It probably takes a second for the volume to respond.
Dude I'm absolutely losing my mind, I've got everything wired and lined up exactly. Video came on once, and now nothing. Any tips?
Check to make sure your t taps have fully been seated into the wire, also check the connector where you crimped the wire down making sure that the conductor is exposed to the metal connector.
I guess I should ask if you used the t taps?
@@D_Spear yeah used the taps you listed just to be safe! Went and did four sets of crimps and none worked but the first try. all seemed well set and didn't budge with any tugs. Can you expose the wire prior to tapping to ensure conduction?
@@digitaltapetransfers2842 the t taps should slightly cut through the wire itself, exposing it yourself would be hard to not cause damage to the wire. You can try moving the taps in a circle a few times back and forth after you set it to make sure that the insulation is fully cut through. Since you mention it worked at first you have a loose connection somewhere.
@@D_Spear ah, that would be a valid concern, i don't want to destroy that! Out of day light, I'll be giving them spins tomorrow and hope for the best! Thanks so much man! Video was awesome and very informative!
Great video bud
Thank you!
Where do you put the GPS antenna?
I placed it on the left side of my dash on top but I don’t feel like it works very well.
I ended up putting it on the passenger side but I'm not sure yet how to use it. I think I need to download maps but not really sure. How do you use it offline?@@D_Spear
Can we connect dash cam ?
Yes the dash cam connects via usb
Can these same products work on a 2008 mazda 3? and I’m loving that screen head unit
This exact unit will not work on 2008 mazda3, however they do have a unit built for 2008 model, gen 1. Heres the link!
www.eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/Vehicle-Specific-GPS/Eonon-Mazda-3-Android-10-Car-Stereo-9-Inch-IPS-Full-Touchscreen-Car-GPS-Navigation-Radio-with-Built-in-CarPlay-and-DSP.html
How is the camera at night? Because I put mine on and it looks all greenish I have to try it during the day to see if it’s any better. Also I have a hatchback speed3 and for my camera to work I have to have the lights on or else it says no signal. How could I fix that any tips?
It sounds like your camera might be messed up, mine is not ever green, at night it’s full color and still pretty easy to see because of the reverse lights. Also if you have to turn on your lights for the camera to work you likely tapped into the wrong wires, not too sure about the speed 3 wiring diagram but sounds like you tapped into the tail lights instead of the reverse lights.
@@D_Spear ok I’ll have to go back in and adjust it and so you think I would be able to go to Best Buy and buy a camera from them and be able to plug it in easily?
Thank you for your videos it was really helpful
I installed a backup camera in my 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and your video was so helpful! Thank you so much! I followed your video to get the cable to the back of the car and then followed ua-cam.com/video/4QBIhqVhPD8/v-deo.html to see the hatchback specific instructions. The whole cable run is hidden so well. Looks very neat and professional.
Hi, I have the same scenario ATM. When following the other video for the hatchback specs, he grounds one wire and t taps another into the "signal cable" he mentions. He is using a different camera though. Did you install an Eonon A0125? If so can you advise where you connected the red and black cables closest to the camera and also if you left the red one free near the system as he has in this video? Much appreciated!
@@dariorossi4769 Yes, I installed the Eonon A0125. I did exactly what was shown in the other video. I t tapped the red cable to the white-red wire which is the power cable for the reverse lights. I shoved the black ground cable between a bolt and a nut connected to the body of the car. The red cable near the AV system was left free as shown in this video.
Hope this helps!
@@PulkitBudhiraja That's exactly what I needed to know, thanks!
Mine isn't working. Is it possible I need to go to the lighter port?
What year is your Mazda and did you wire it up to the exact wires I used?
I got it to work for a minute but then I blew a fuse. It kept going so I ended up rewiring the entire radio. I couldn't get my steering wheel interface to work either. I have a 2013 Mazda 3 but I don't know if it's a sport or an I or an m 🤦
@@D_Spear okay so I think there's something wrong with displacing. I have gone through so many fuses, I ended up taking out the camera and doing it wheel interface but now I can't even get the radio to work. It just keeps blowing 😭 I cut all the wires back clean and use what connectors and redid the entire thing thinking it might be something faulty there. I don't even know what to do now 🤦
@@customcraftsafterdark1744 make sure your camera wire is not pinched anywhere, it sounds like the positive wire is going to ground. Check your wiring on the radio unit too, maybe one of the wires is pinched there. Is it blowing the fuse on the radio or on the factory Mazda fuse box?
@@D_Spear no it was the actual head unit. I double triple checked my wiring so many times and followed everything through with my meter reader. Finally after getting on Reddit someone suggested to plug in my old unit and see if that worked. I did that this morning and everything was fine, so it was just the crappy Amazon unit 🤣🤣🤣 I just got done putting in a pioneer in the camera is working fabulous 👍👍👍
Thank u 🙏
Also I would be interested in the installation for the front camera as i am planning to so the same installation on my 2010 mazda 3 as well
