2013 Mazda 3 Throttle Body Cleaning

- This went much better than it did on my Nissan Pathfinder. Two times the charm I guess. The throttle body cleaning industry would tell you to clean the throttle body every 75,000 Miles. I'm at about 125,000 miles for the first, and probably only time that I'll clean it.

Thank you!!!!!! Been looking for how to brace for the throttle for hours. This is such a great idea
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Hi, I have the exact same car ( love it ). I like how informative and detailed you are in your video! Superb job👍
Thanks for checking it out
Love your videos, always straight to the point and super chill.. without any Scotty Kilmer action going on that normally blows out my ear drums, lol. Where did you learn how to do all these things? You give such good detail of what to do and also what not to do or look out for.
Thanks for the positive feedback. My parents lived in the country and were always building things or working on a boat motor or some broken thing. I have no training; we always just had a lot of things around that needed fixing. For vehicle videos I have a few manuals that I lean heavily on for things like torque specifications.
@@DIYNorth that’s great. Similar experience growing up but more in house renovation. My parents hunker cars were when I was younger so I don’t remember all the stuff my dad would do and I just held the light and didn’t pay attention as much as I wish I would have, haha.
Glad you mentioned about manuals. Do you have any idea where in the heck to get a solid manual? I have been looking off and on for a few years and it seems like luck of the draw with getting manuals scanned or transcribed online and wasting $10 here, $25 there and then they turn out to be for a different Mazda than it was described. Let alone finding a printed one. 😞
@@GMoney-B I don't think that there is a manual for 2012 and 2013 for the mazda 3 that is readily available. Haynes offers a 2004 - 2011, which is probably as close as you can get to the correct manual. After 2011 it looks like they really cut back on Mazda guides. I have Haynes manuals on all of my other vehicles other than this one. I also use the following web site to get information from for the 2013 Mazda 3:
www.mazda3tech.com/mazda_3_service_manual-418.html
It can be a bit vague at times though.
Can't believe,it's working!!!! Thanks a lot. I wish you a happy life and happy every day.
Радвам се, че работи сега.
I used a little bit of bar soap and dawn dishwashing soap with a toothbrush to clean mine... Great video..Thanks.
Thanks for the recommendation.
@@DIYNorth ...yes...It worked great.
I heard that if you clean the throttle body, it will improve the gas mileage and it will help the engine run smoother and with more power.
While I think that is possible, I also think it would have to be a lot dirtier than my throttle body to get that improvement
4:44 i was thinking to use oven cleaner like i did on my egr, but now that you mentioned the coating. I'll stick to Carby cleaner
I think using the cleaner designed for this will be best.
This is really heapful. The dealership quoted me 279 for this job
Yeah....that's kind of expensive. Thanks for watching and commenting
Yes, if you go to the dealer, but in reality, if you clean the Throttle body and the maf sensor, it takes less than an hour!
Used this method and check engine light came on... thanks a lot
No problem thanks for watching.
I have four hypothesis for your issue though.
1) you failed to like and subscribe
2) the vacuum hose wasn't reinstalled correctly
3) it is a temporary issue due to the engine pulling in some throttle body cleaner that hadn't fully evaporated
4) your throttle body needs to go through a relearn procedure
Since the procedure involves removing the air filter and ducting, depressing the gas pedal with the engine off, and wiping around the throttle body the overall procedure is very non-invasive and shouldn't cause problems.
What I would do in your situation is double check that everything is installed correctly, then do the throttle body relearn procedure.
Here is an example of a relearn procedure: ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/mazda-throttle-body-relearn/
You can do your own research though.
I would also consider cleaning the MAF, as well as plugging in an OBD II to see what the code is all about.
@@DIYNorth Probably number 1. Not liking and subscribe.
your videos are top notch, thank you!!
Thanks for checking them out.
The way you clean the throttle body is the wrong way to go. You don't even have to spray the cleaner into the engine, because what you do is spray some of the liquid directly into the engine. You have to completely dismantle the part. And while you're at it, clean the MAF sensor too, which is easier to clean.
I have already cleaned the MAF.
So I did this. I started my car and it died almost instantly. I double checked everything was tight. Started it again and it was a little hesitant as if it was about to stall so I pressed on the gas and now it’s back to “normal” I think? Am I missing something here?
If the cleaner didnt fully evaporate you may have pulled some of that through the engine when it started.
Once it's gone it's gone so it should be fine if it is running well now
Thank you👍
Good job but why didn't you take the whole throttle body out? Would of been ot easier to get at it
It could be removed, I'm not sure if there is a gasket in there that would then need to be replaced or not. I didn't find that it was difficult to clean with the TB still attached.
@@DIYNorth Did you notice any difference after cleaning your Throttle body? I'm wondering, are there any other areas to the throttle body that would need cleaning?
@@GMoney-B I didn't notice any difference really. I think if it was really dirty I would have, but this was just surface carbon. I'm sure if the build up was very bad that improvements could be noticed.
@@DIYNorth Awesome-sauce'um. Thanks for the input!
There’s more to clean out behind the throttle body inside the manifold.
yes
I like it how you did it but I have one question🤔 the throotle will not need any reprogramation if is disconected?
If it is fully removed it might, or if you force it open it also might.
Thank you
Thanks for watching
Did you ever do carbon cleanup? The Walnut Blasting?
I have not
I just did the same as you, but the problem is that it feels like the car will get on the throttle slower, and the rmp will go higher before cleaning when I try to drive to 60 mph on freeway
I would check all the air and vacuum lines and make sure there is no leaks in anything, then perhaps try the Throttle Body position relearn procedure.
My throttle body only seems to open a small gap, maybe 30 degrees when I depress the gas with the key to on? Issue with my throttle body?
If the car drives fine then I would say that there is probably no issue with it.
Thank you for this!!
No problem thanks for watching
Awesome video brother one question had my car turn of while I came to stop u think this can help it took it to a mechanic they can't find code for it should I try this?
Maybe this would help....I wouldnt hold out too much hope though.
Here is what my haynes manual says to look for in a stalling vehicle.
Idle speed incorrect
Fuel filter clogged or water in fuel
Ignition components damp
Faulty emission system components
Faulty or incorrect spark plug gap
Vacuum leak in the intake manifold or vacuum hoses
Thanks bud
Hi me again, just before I go ahead and clean up the throttle body. I see some people disconnecting the battery, is it necessary? I wouldn't think so, however just asking. Thank again mate!
I don't think that the throttle body will open with the battery disconnected. This is an electronic throttle body rather than one that runs off a cable.
@@DIYNorth That's what I was thinking also. Thank 👍
Is it ok to use Carb Cleaner? they are supposed to be interchangable (same ingredients) as Thottle body cleaner
I've never tried it, but my understanding is that they can be used interchangeably, but the TB cleaner is better for the TB because it is supposed to break down carbon more effectively.
@@DIYNorth There are some people that say carb/choke cleaner can break down the coating on the throttle body so I just go with the TB cleaner. It's like $9 even with inflation and the can lasts a decade. Could probably be ok with carb cleaner but why risk it
i subscribe u bcoz of this thanks
Thanks for the sub
Hey! I got a 2016 mazda 3, do you know if they are about the same dimentions/sizes? I'm thinking about replacing it .
I'm not sure. There were a lot of changes starting in 2014
What does turning the ignition ON do in this process if I'm moving the throttle with the pedal?
It is an electronic system and needs to be in the on position to function. If you have a throttle body that connects to you gas pedal via cable, then yes it will open.
@@DIYNorth ah, ok. Thank you for replying!
After throttle body cleaning I have a problem with rpm, because i pressed with my finger. Can you help me for this problem?
ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/mazda-throttle-body-relearn/
@@DIYNorth that is right
I made big mistake
@@ПетърПетров-ж9ю9б, did you fix it?
this is what you do not want to do. do not have the key on, do not press the pedal to open it for cleaning. press SLOWLY with your finger.
I agree with nothing that you just said, but encourage you to do it however you want.
your wife's electric toothbrush??????
Ok.....it wasnt electric
