    Nice work mate, amazing that it only cost $2,500, I couldn't even begin to imagine how much it would cost if you got someone to build it, would have to be in $20,000's with the amount of labor required at the very minimum. looking forward to seeing the sump video

    Is that acrylic or glass panels ?
    My current tank i built is glass and most likely going with glass on my upgrade because it’s easier to seal.

    If it’s glass what thickness you went with ?

    How did you spec. the concrete to see if it would support that weight first?

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому

      Average basement floor is 4" thick concrete. Per lb psf this is nothing compared to what it can hold

    • @daviddiehl197
      @daviddiehl197 4 роки тому

      @@OffTheDeepEndAquatics that 4" at the perimeter, who know what in the middle. Is it attached to the exterior wall block or just poured to it. Is there any pipes running through it. What size is the rebar. How much stone and size is underneath. Do you have a perimeter drain or a sump pump? I ask because I used to build homes and they cut corners where ever it's not seen. Standard concrete is 3000psi. with rebar. My 150gal. cracked the floor of my apartment the second day it was filled and dropped 1".
      You said your weakest point was the glass, that floor shifts and it's gone.
      It does look great, saw the other videos. Did a 12' octagonal, 16' tall on 4' or concrete with 1" rebar wesh under it. Left it cure for 3 months before construction.

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому +1

      If your 150 broke the floor you've got big issues dude. You shouldn't even have a family gathering lol. Probably an older house or has some type of drainage issues. That's not a lot of weight from a 150.
      I don't know the exact specs of how the house was built but it's fairly new construction. The weight is distributed over 60sf on the 1100 and approximately 70sf for the 1500. Its really not that much weight when u break it down. Even if they cut corners I had no doubt that it would be fine. We even had a decent size earthquake recently without any problems.

    Good job, one of the best videos about the construction of a plywood aquarium. What interests me is the size of the glass windows: the thickness you said in the video, but I am interested in the dimensions of the sides because I plan to make a similar one (maybe a little smaller by 500 gallons) and the big problem for me is the price of the glass that was recommended to me by specialists (trilaminate from 12 mm sheets with two from tempered sheets) the price is exorbitant and if you can save something of that amount why not

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  Рік тому +1

      There are a lot of forum discussions on this topic on Facebook. Mostly dependent on how tall the build will be. 1/2" tempered is fine for most builds as long as you're not exposing it to more than 30" height of water. It's hard to type it all and explain but this tank was too tall I had to use 3/4" (19mm)

Just an idea, never know. Tank that size is going to need some serious filtration, and with the new room, you'll have room....lol. Be sure to take a look at the multi-chamber system I have going on for the 1000 gallon in my build-out. Part 16 just released.
