What I like about Billy Idol is he carries the energy of punk but with tuneful songs you want to listen to. I love punk versions of epic songs but Idol is the real thing.
Belinda Carlisle was the lead singer for The Go-Go's and she got her start in punk music, and that girl band shreds! Listen to "Lust to Love" and you will believe!
Billy Idol is straight fire and an immortal rock god. In 100 years people will listen to his music still. And it will still be cool. He'll probably still be on tour.
I feel he is the Elvis of the 80's. He's music is amazing! He is one of my favorite artists. Listen to Dancing with Myself, Flesh for Fantasy, To be a lover & Cradle of love. I'm glad you like his music. It's hard to get some people to check out his stuff and then they go OMG this is amazing. he has appeared in some movies and other stuffs too.
He comes straight from the punk genre, having been a front man of "Generation X" before going solo. He always carried that punk feel and style, even as his music became far more complex and popular. He STILL comes off pretty punk in his sixties. But, once a punk rocker it will always stick with you. ANARCHY!!!
"Cradle of Love" is so good and so underrated! it was a 1990 and he had an injury which they still were able to do the video with him being on a video wall.
Let's not forget to mention she was pregnant and had to get married. A white wedding dress was a symbol of purity. Hence the sarcastic nature of this song. She was pregnant and no longer pure.
@@wandi3267 Therefore, the "shotgun" mention in the song as when girls got pregnant when not married, their father's would force the guy to get married which was the term "a shotgun wedding". Unwed mothers were considered a disgrace to the family back then.
Idk if I’ve ever sat still & listened to this song all the way thru, I just know the, “Nice Day for a White Wedding” line. It was a long time before I knew what Billy Idol looked like & often confused him with Billy Ocean because I didn’t know what he looked like either, lol. Enjoyed your reaction, good work & keep it going!
I remember watching this video with my mum in the 80ties and she immediatly said: this is the most beautiful man I ever saw! Hahah! Well, he was so attractive, beautiful and manly and had this very seductive and dangerous aura that even made hetero guys fall for him for the lenght of a song... what a guy!
Great reaction! You seem to grasp pretty well the Billy Idol persona: a cool dude with an attitude. He's got the voice of Jim Morrison, the snarl of Elvis Presley and talent to boot. The guy is fire🔥. I'd say you're about ready now for his live version of “Mony Mony”... and I dare you to sit still and not bob your head/tap your feet to this one 😉
A shotgun wedding is a situation where a guy gets a girl pregnant and the dad is not so happy about the prospects of the guy running off and not supporting the girl and baby. So the guy is threatened by the dad with a shotgun to marry the daughter.
I LOVE that you are doing oldies! Thank you! And Billy was BEFORE a lot of the artists who are into 'grunge' rock. He and Pat Benetar would go into clubs and venues with bloody knuckles from fights. (I was told about it.) Interesting. Thanks again! Love your work!
@@anthonydawson8080 SORRY! But it wasn't produced within the past couple of years...when I hear Flo Rida on a commercial background, it kind of pushes me in that direction.

A white wedding is one where the bride wears white, to symbolize her purity. In some families it signifies that she is a virgin, so that if she was previously married and divorced, she is expected to where an off white or pastel shade of gown for a second marriage. Some prudish people consider it to be in poor taste for a previously married woman to wear a white bridal gown.
I love Billy! He was in the movie The Wedding Singer too.
What I like about Billy Idol is he carries the energy of punk but with tuneful songs you want to listen to. I love punk versions of epic songs but Idol is the real thing.
He will be 68 at the end of November, and still rocking !
And I’d still hit it with no hesitations! 😂😂😂

Back in time, to "older" people , he looked dangerous, and was a man whith a heart of Gold
"Cradle of Love" is so good and so underrated! it was a 1990 and he had an injury which they still were able to do the video with him being on a video wall.
Cradle of love
Back in England when he was a kid, his chemistry teacher wrote on his report card, “William is idle”.
Billy rocked the 80s. He's amazing. He is my favorite 80s artist. Listen to Mony Mony next.
Try Dancing w Myself, next! Super fun song & video & lyrics interpretation 🙂
The early days of MTV saw some creative and wacky music videos--wall-to-wall! A fun time!
If you have not seen Rebel Yell, it's a must.
Billy Idol was my heart back in the day, I seen him live a few times and it was always a blast. I had a door poster of him in my room, lol.
Rock the cradle of love is also a big hit
Flesh for Fantasy next my man, You won't be disappointed.
Someone should open an 80's themed venue where people could go, be dressed like the era, have the music pumped in and recreate the whole vibe, lol.
"To be a Lover" is actually my fave from him. It's a switch up with Steve Stevens on piano and guitar.
Billy Idol is a funny guy too.
I'd say his song Mony Mony should be next
Referring to Billy's voice i always thought at times he sounded like a bit of a crooner but had the wild rocker when he kicked it in.
Great reaction next mony mony live video or cradle of love ❤
This song was written about his little sister who came back from a semester at school telling him she's is going to get married!

Flesh For Fantasy is one of my faves. Hope you check it soon. And also Blue Highway. And Mony Mony. And Don't Need A Gun.
I would love to see someone finally react to Hot in the City!
You need to listen to the extended version to really appreciate the instrumentation!
Gotta hear Pumping On Steel & Prodigal Blues. They're 2 of his lesser known hits, but are fantastic. I know you & the listeners will enjoy them. :)

Dancing With Myself
Mony Mony
Cradle of Love
Flesh For Fantasy
Hot in the City
Check “Hot in the City” - I think it was his first solo hit

Shock to the System off his Cyberpunk album is great, the video is movie-esque. Most people skipped over this album, but it is great!
When he was very young in the punk group Generation X he was a bit like Sid Vicious….

Yeah, a white wedding has become normal, but truly until mid 20th C it was the exception and involved wealth.

Thank you for your exploration of music from this era! So much music needs recognition, enjoy your journey!
I do like his cover of Mony Mony by Tommy James & The Shondells
There is a longer version of this!

He says "shotgun" which implies a shotgun wedding. The bride is pregnant
Because he does that weird thing with his mouth.
