- Wonderful USA made leverdrag reels from a small Virginia based machine shop. Small Game and Large Game series reels are discussed and shown off in this video. Seigler is the newer name for reels formerly known as Truth and a couple years prior Release.

That LGN would be an awesome reel for fishing White Sturgeon on Ca Delta because of the braid diameter and the spool being cut thinner than other reels out there on the market same guys normally use 50 to 60lb. but for the guys that love insurance great 80lb braid reel especially if you get 400yrds on it SEIGLER FISHING! 👍
I like my SGN, just got my dad a SG for his birthday. They're amazing reels if you're into single speeds. They do need to improve their QC, but if you get one that has no problems they're excellent reels for the money. Had to send my dad's SG in for service because his arrived pretty rough on the gearing. Once we sent it in, it came back amazingly smooth. Just waiting til I have a reason to buy a LG :) Can't wait til they get more popular which they will with time.
Thanks for the update Mark! I love the Avets that I bought from you guys, an SX Raptor, and a HXJ 4.2, and have been slamming the Mangrove Snapper and Red and Gag Grouper with them here in Fla.!
Thinking about getting a Seigler SG for running 40 lb braid and 40 lb mono topshot for Mangroves. They are a sweet reel for the price, compared to say an Accurate 400.

You guessed right. Keep checking vids and you'll find some Bootsy, George Clinton, Mtume, Bernie Worrell...this old howlie might surprise you some more. Good tunz is good tunz, whatever the flavor, just like people in general.
Good video with good info. Love my Truth SG. They make Lefty's. Casts great. Lots of cranking power too. I've even fished it with 40lb leaders. Not a problem. Mostly use it for 30lb with jigs and stuff. Wish they'd make a 2 speed. I'd pick up a 2 speed LGN lefty in a heartbeat.
Even as a single speed piece, the LGN is a nice reel to own. I use mine mostly for surface iron and wahoo jigs, very nice piece with more cranking power than you'd think given the gearing. Grabbed an SGN for light jigging and bait, enjoying the reels, too.
Just now got a UC 9e from you guys. Putting a LGN on it for an iron chucker. Can't wait to fish it

I'm with you. Wes is very creative, and his background in biking, ergo-gears, and discussions over the years leaves me thinking there are indeed some more things in the plans. I own two of his reels now, couple of the guys here have 'em too. That says something. Good honest fishing reels.
Mark, just received my LGN but was wondering the dog and anti reverse is a bit loud. I know it’s a sign that it’s working but was wondering does it lower down after sometime? Straight out the box, just getting the feel for the reel I just noticed how loud it was. I watched your video again and noticed yours, watched a couple other videos and others seem quiet.
I'll make a guess that your reel has not been spooled. Put line on her, that will dampen the noise level I believe. Avet and other reels are similar in this respect. That's my guess based upon what you've said. If she is spooled up, I don't really have an answer, but the fish won't hear...
Mark, I had a question bout your rod pairing. You said you have your LGN on a UC CP medium heavy 8 footer, what’s your thoughts on pairing the LGN on a UC RCP70 HF-C or UC RCP HP-C ? I was in hopes for using the LGN as mainly a fly line for smaller-medium tuna. Plus I was looking for a rod with a reel seat. what’s your thoughts, maybe a RCP H-C?
The match will be determined by the line test you plan on running. That's going to determine the drag setting you should run and that's going to match up with a rod made for that load. So, if you're running say 40# on top, your leader test, then the RCP70HF would be great. If fishing heavier line, say 50 or 60# on top, 18-20 lbs drag, they the RCP70HP may come into play. For what you describe, size of tuna intended, the HF at 40# will be sweet. LGN or even SG can work for you at 40.

So two questions about the small game narrow...1: when you put the clicker on silent how come I can still hear a slight click? 2: the anodized finish is different on both reels I have. One almost looks like a green and the other looks almost like a purple.... how come?
There can be variance in tone in the anodizing process, slight variations exist with all manufacturers. I'm not a metallurgist, but my understanding is the variation is due to temperature and time. That's one reason why, when a person buys a couple of the same reel from us, Avet's most commonly, we do try to have both come from the same anodizing batch, same production. (Example, we have 2 reels in stock, a guy wants to buy three. We don't just order one reel to complete the sale, we order three.) The slight click you hear has to do with the internal part that triggers the clicker. The part is still there, just moved back so it's not triggered to make the louder noise.
@@marksmith4452 ya that all makes sense then. The company had one in stock and they ordered me a second one that came from seigler so that's probably what happened. The one reel you can hear a slight clicking when you silence it and the other reel you don't hear anything when it's silenced.... just found that odd.
Hey Mark, Im in the market for a Seigler reel. I know its my next reel, but I hit a wall as too which would work best for me. Im looking for a reel that can catch yellowfin tuna, but dont wanna go overkill if I dont have to. I was looking at the LG or LGN, but now Im reading that the SG could even catch them. I am also moving to Florida, and will be doing more grouper and snapper fishing. What would you recommend for me between these rules? Thank you!
I own an SG and a couple LGN's (new ones much nicer than my older models). The SG covers a lot of ground, can do 30-40# leader w/50# braid backing quite nicely. She ain't a 2 speed, but handles schoolie fish VERY well. Great general purpose reel. I run my LGN's w/50# leader, primarily wahoo targeted w/iron and bombs. My son has an SGN, he's more the jigger and that size is right at home in that application. In Florida, the SGN/SG would be my top pick for the majority of what folks do.

Nope, Cousins DOA and formally defunct now. Did some business with one of the Cousins, I didn't go back down that rabbit hole and knew they would not stick around once they burned thru investor money. Probably you're seeing United Composites rods in background (newer name for what many of us fondly knew as Graphite USA).
What are the benefits of the short arm compared to the long arm on a LG?
Long arm gains some cranking power, shorter arm makes it easier to wind faster. So, you could say a shorter arm may help you get bit (for those fish for whom speed is a bit of a turn on - yellowtail, wahoo...) with a longer arm being a bit more helpful grinding in a hooked fish. The standard arm on the LG/LGN is just fine, long enough. Where the short verses long arm is more of a question, the SG and SGN, its really a subjective question - different anglers will have differing needs. As example, I run a standard length arm on my SGN, my son and shop GM Sergey has the long arm on his.
If you're gonna be slow jigging the long handle can help with rhythm and technique. If you're going to be speed jigging the shorter handle will help you grind a jig faster turn for turn. I like a longer arm on almost all my bait reels for extra leverage and cranking power once hooked up to a fish, especially on reels that are single speed like these. I keep the handles short on my reels for fishing surface iron because the long handle would be more work to turn all day.

I didn't show off their Surf piece. It's about the same size as an SG. Could have some application in Hawaii, but thinking Ulua at the rocks...LG or LGN make more sense to me. These are very good casting reels with plenty of drag for what you're likely doing. Use braid as backing to gain capacity, then run probably 150 yards, perhaps more, mono on top for abrasion resistance. You can reach me at CharkBait.com

What line test do you plan on fishing? Also, where are you fishing?
I bought an SG and an SGN a few years ago based on their max drag rating and small size. Unfortunately, both failed on the first trip when using them near the top end of their drag rating. They make GREAT 20lb up to 30lb line class reels but I feel like the 30lb max drag is false advertising (based on my limited sample size of 2 reels).....
I'd report similar drag findings on older SG/SGN Seiglers, I never saw 30 lbs from the small reels but my LGN has been a beast. Range of drag on the older SG/SGN not as wide as current pieces, machining not as nice too. They have come a long way. The silver lining is that they do stand behind their product and if you are still seeking greater drag level SEND YOUR REEL BACK TO SEIGLER. They do support their warranty which is LIFETIME. Let them know of your disappointment in performance from the beginning, I have faith that they will make things right. I have no negatives to report regarding the two I own, and from client feedback folks do seem quite positive.
@@CharkBaitUSA I returned both of those reels a week after I bought them and decided to go a different route. It's good to hear they're constantly improving. I've heard their customer service is top notch. I did like the reels, just should've stepped up to the LG/LGN's for what I was trying to do.....
