    "JETTYWOLF LIVE" - I LIKE STAR DRAG REELS. A comparison. So you can see the difference. Although near the same size. Comparing my favorite Daiwa casting reel, and it's high engineering, to the TRUTH SS, that's a casting style reel for REALLY big fish, engineered in a completely different way.......THE AMERICAN WAY!

    I just bought a Seigler sm for surf fishing attached to a 12 rod spooled with 20lb mono and 40lb mono leader using a 30z - 5oz ground cast I am able to throw father out than my spinning outfits and have now have the range and drag to reach out to the tarpon that I couldn't before some say I should use braid but prefer mono and have used 30 lb mono with an 80lb leader and have caught blacktips up to 110lbs without any problems besides sore shoulders.

      @@CaptDavesSportfishing yeah because two companies who only used the words Truth and Release in their products description got away with suing him. Not like they even named their products those two words.
      Ill support a hell of an all American company and man.

    Really enjoyed this video and I have some questions that your advise will make my decision easier !
    1. Why did you choose the SS vs the SG ? I do fish from a Slayer Propel Kayak and I like to go after bull reds inshore and Kings, Cobia and Tarpon drifting or trolling live bait and lures. I would; however, like to be able to "Cast" if the opportunity arrives ! I have caught up to approximately 150lb Tarpon and 35lb Cobia on my big Penn Spinning Reels with Med. to Heavy action rods.
    2. Do you find that the "Star Drag" is superior, easier to master and makes more sense than the "level" drag system ? I'm use to the front drag on the larger Penn spinning reels and the "Star Drags" on baitcasters ....... So I was wondering how I'd like the "Lever Drag" method on the Truth SG ?
    3. What would be your opinion as to the best Medium to Heavy action rod in your opinion based on my type of usage for this rod to combine with the Truth SS or the SG ( whichever I decide upon)
    THANKS CAPTAIN I value your experience and intuesion on what I may enjoy more............ Money is not the issue in my decision.

      holy smokes.....1 - lever drags aren't good in the charter biz 2- I like star drag reels 3- I fish UGLY STIKS, only, and these reels do not fit on small trigger reel seats, so i use ugly stik 7' customs w/ slick butts.

    I've been looking at the Truth reels for beach casting. Very nice Dave. Thanks for the
    review/comparison. They both look great. I can tell that you really like
    the high quality reels and features. Good stuff.

      Yep, I do vid's on High and Low buck stuff, because being a true tackle junkie is as much about getting a deal as having nice stuff.

    Good day all the way from from South Africa. What a awesome review. If you dont mind me asking. How do I go about getting my hands on one of those Truth reels and what is the biggest size they come in. If you can please advise me on this. Would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Stephen

    Hi capt. I am considering to get the SS reel for some deeper cod/seabass fishing. Do you think the reel can handle 12oz sinkers. Also I see that you got your reel from tackledirect. Did it come with a clamp because I heard someone say that the ones from tackledirect are missing it?
    Thanks.

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  8 років тому

      That was MY review, that I wrote on TD's website. Not any longer, the clamps are with them. I recommend J&H tackle, sign up for their newsletter and get a 15% off coupon code to use right away. Saving huge money with free shipping. I've used and cast 8 ounces so far with them, not sure about 12's. But you're just dropping over the side, so why not.

    Damn you Captain...every time you talk about this freaking Ryoga reel I start drooling and I want to go out and buy one! Hey man! Uhhhh how loud is that clicker...lmao

      i don't know, never use clickers for anything I'm not a kitty cat fisherman these reels are great I just couldnt use them anymore without them being level wind,

      @@CaptDavesSportfishing just kidding around about that clicker. What are you saying Captain? The Truth is not for you? I haven't fished Saltwater since 1999 and mostly around Catalina and San Clemente so you can just imagine my Salty collection. I recently pulled them out of the bag to have a look. First out came my fishing cup belt :] So many great fishing trips....I have 5 reels all conventional 3 are Penn's and 2 are upgraded with Accurate one piece frames a 500 and a Senetor 4/0, the 113 I bought for yellowtail came with a one piece frame...the other 2 were Diawa Sealines an SL20SH and a SL50 those Diawa SL reals although entry level reels are bullet proof beasts...and to be honest that 20 spooled with 15# test Big Game got the lion's share of abuse for right at 10 years I caught yellow fin tuna up to 25# and anything under that all day long...conventional no level winder...and I wouldn't hesitate for an instant to put it into service tomorrow (I wish) given a fresh spool of 15# big game. I did downsize. There I bought and used confidently for several years a ABU 5500 on an el cheapo Quantom graphite 15-30# trigger pitch'n stick somebody said for $30 you can always use it for fresh water...I used that set up for Barbed Sand Bass and even Cudas...not a bad set up actually...I would have upgraded if I would not have left SoCal. Maybe at the time a Calcutta...but who knows. I really liked that SL20 so i may have gone towards Diawa or Penn

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  6 років тому

      don't remember all those stats. ua-cam.com/video/F_mpCoJnJyI/v-deo.html don't even own rods or reels any longer. sold all of them and bought more Daiwa Ryoga's. Had more use for them...plus the Ryoga's are additively perfect. This company ''truth'' can't even make up their minds of what to call themselves!!!!!

      had them on Ugly's before I sold all 4, the Shimano rods were too stiff......I only use Ugly's, so it did fit me. Too bad I sold them (Release's, Truth's, now...SIEGLER!!!) for ''additional'' R-y-o-g-a's, at least they can make up their mind what to name the company!

    Your comparison is way out in left field. It probably would have been better had you compared your Shrapnels to the Truth reel rather than your Ryogas. Don't know where your information came from on the Pluton being an "down graded Ryoga" but nothing could be further from the truth. I know, I have one, that they are superb reels well suited for it's intended purpose and remember, the Pluton had a 200 frame only, whereas the Ryogas were available in multiple size frames and application frames! The Ryogas are boat reels, not surf cast reels. Totally different duties and applications. Don't know where you're getting your "standard of the industry" references but to my knowledge, there isn't any. Each company tends to have it's own "Premium" class construction standards. Not trying to bust your hump pal but you might want to be more careful about the mis-info you're sharing with your audience! Keep the faith!

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  8 років тому +3

      Well you just didn't get it, Pal. I owned a few Shrapnels. But that wasn't the point. Just showing two of my favorite reels. Thats all. Nothing was mis-informing anyone. Both premium, and not even closely considered "alike". My channel, my video's!!

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing

      the pluton had less bearings......hence down graded ryoga!

      Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing,2 reels made for two different scenarios trying to be compared to each other??? May as well compare a spinner to a caster.
      The name thing is due to poor copyright lawyers and their shitty research work.Wes,the owner, should have been able to sue them over them not doing their job and end up with whatever companies with the name Release and Truth suing him or they should be able to sue the lawyers directly.
      I like the reel name Seigler better than I did the other 2 anyhow.

  • @johnsmith-xd9ej
    @johnsmith-xd9ej 6 років тому +3

    WTH? The Title Itself Implies Bashing Seigler Reels and justify it by comparing it with a Levelwind Reel....its like comparing with Apple and Oranges...WTH! BTW the change of Name is due to Copyright issues you should have known if you do your homework and have nothing to do with the Quality of the Seigler Reels, FYI.
