      Time sure does make a difference…all these amazing formulas often need a little time to get the MAX benefit, especially if you want to adjust/neutralise tone.

      Hi Julie, thanks for watching, so glad you found it helpful. It’s impossible for me to give out exact formulas without seeing your hair - but what I will say is the the ABN series has a lot of blue in it…blue + yellow = green, that’s why you’re seeing a green hue. SEQG is formulated to be on the cooler side (9G is not bright yellow!) so I wouldn’t use the ABN on your ends at all, go for something from the N series - there’s both soft blue/violet in there, so it should be cool enough.

    I have dark hair and have been highlighting my own hair for 30 years. I'm at that stage in my life where I want more platinum highlights as opposed to blonde. Recently after I highlighted my hair and using a 1:1 ratio, I applied equal parts of 09V, 09T, and 010P using Redken Shades EQ Gloss after highlighting and left it on for 20 minutes. My highlights were almost non-existent; I had dark hair with dark highlights. What did I do wrong? Why didn't my existing highlights turn a platinum shade?

    • @theworldofcraig
      @theworldofcraig  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, thanks for watching. You did a great job with the application/timing, your result is to do with the shades you selected. V is pure violet (it’s always been that way) it has no “background”, this means it’s very powerful…both T + P contain a lot of blue pigment - they all run very cool. The cooler hair goes, the more light it absorbs, the darker the result will look. The N series, with a touch of V + some Clear is enough on most very light highlights 70% of the time - SEQG is formulated on the cooler side.

      Hi Kristin, thanks for watching and the kind words. Please don’t be confused - the reality is that generally, gloss product will not cover grey hair….they can “blend” but as they are translucent they don’t cover. If you want to get rid of your grey hair they aren’t for you. Look at cream based demi-permanent products for coverage…even those don’t really have enough “energy” to cover grey. Most Regular Haircolor lines ( Miss Clairol, L’Oreal Preference / Excellence / Feria / CreScendo, Redken Color Gels, Etc. ) Can use most any Peroxide or Developer without affecting the color results or performance. Certain color lines require a special developer - Most Creme colors Do Not Contain a thickening agent so the correct consistency in the Developer is needed to get the right thickness. Some color lines have an ‘Activated’ conditioning system where one or more components are in the dedicated developer. Some Colors need certain agents in the developer for the finished mixture to have the optimum pH required for processing.

      @@theworldofcraig Sorry, I was just trying to illustrate that more modern formulas may require a dedicated developer while “Old School” brands were more ‘self-contained’. Shades Eq does need a dedicated developer because the mixture has a low pH and low Peroxide Volume which prevents excessive swelling of the hair and lightening of the natural pigment while limiting deposit to the layer just below the cuticle to provide longer lasting but temporary color.

    I use 20% developer (Wella)with shades EQ because I ran out of the redken processing solution and it works fine for me. I'm not very knowledgeable. I just want to cover the grey hairs and it does the job. The colors are really nice and fairly dark. I used to calculate the colors and mix different shades ( I bought like 20 different colors), but one day when I learned the bas e of dark hair is red I just mixed red (Blaze) with black and the result is great. What I don't like is that it's too liquid even though the Wella peroxide is heavy cream. I mix 1:1 but still too liquid and it runs on my scalp and forehead.

      Hi Don, thanks for watching. If that works for you, then go for it. Redken says over and to apply EQ shades over DRY hair for 20 mins...I see 100 of videos where toner is NEVER done following these instructions. Yes you should always watch closely but it's normal for it to appear dark and sometimes "scarey" and you have to trust the process. I want to play it safe and apply it wet and only for a few minutes not the full 20. Unless, you handsome Craig tell me something magical here. What's the deal, follow directions or many stylist practice I've seen? 😊

    • @theworldofcraig
      @theworldofcraig  2 роки тому +2

      Hi there. It does depend on the result your after - ultimately it can be used however you want. 99.9 times I apply to dry hair and process for the full 20mins (I formulate accordingly for my blondes to not be to deep) for 2 reasons - the first being that the result will last longer…it’s a demi and it takes that time for the pigment to travel under the cuticle. Secondly, if you want the hair to get maximum shine, dry hair for the full time is best. Also worth remembering that if for example you’re wanting to remove “brassy” level 7/8 warmth from the hair using SEQG, you need to have full tonal deposit…applying to damp hair for 5 minutes won’t give you the best results and as cooler tones are always the first to leave the hair, the warmth will return…and the client could be unhappy. Hope that’s helpful….there are other videos that cover aspects of this subject on here. Thanks for the great question.

      @@pawsitiveleader8710 Totally understand you’re naturally dark and want lots of tone…but the ammonia could actually over time make your hair more porous and then the toner will fade even faster….another reason I’m not keen on using permanent colour.
      The best thing to do is to make sure you’re toning “on the level” - so if you’re a warm level 8, your formula should be an 8.
      There’s a playlist full of hair colour theory videos that really go into how to get the best from toning….and one of the recent ones even takes you through he process of choosing the best formula.

      @pawsitiveleader8710 Yes, I know…that’s what I meant - if you want to get rid of the warmth, you have to tone on the level
