      You certainly could do - as the “canvas” I was working on in the video had a little gold in already it wouldn’t be necessary…but if you were working on a level 10 for sure. Just bare in mind that the result wouldn’t be so “icy”/grey if you did. Thanks for your kind words! 👨🏻🙏🏻

      Hi there, thanks for watching and subscribing.
      Yes, if the canvas is very light sometimes I like to mix warm/cool shades together, you can get some really great results.
      Gold is the most reflective colour in hair, so that’s why it can look really great.

  • @AprilLovesDIY
    @AprilLovesDIY 8 місяців тому

    What does it mean when u say you would have mixed the formula on a level 8. How do the formulas differ based on levels. Can u give me an example. So I can easily understand without having to research the terminology
    I am trying to learn how to tell my hair at home because I’m having issues with my color is not lifting properly she’s not using foil she’s not using sheet of any kind so my hair is not getting to the level that it should be because it’s so cold and I am just over driving an hour to the salon spending all this money and not getting the results that I want so after you know, two weeks, my toner is gone and my hair is awful looking so I just have to learn how to do some things on my own and I’ve been looking into Redken queue for a while now and trying to educate the people around me like the people in the salons around me because it seems like they don’t wanna look into how to actually use it I mean there’s so many people like mixing up the perfect like making the perfect formulas like how you said it in the end mixing one part of and one part of that so it’s not too much of either one and that’s what I love. That’s what I want I want iridescent blonde. What you use for iridescent blonde the one part P and one V. OK when I just ask that question I think I just figured out what you meant by mixing on that level so each toning pigment has all of the numbers so he has level levels one through 10 and he has levels one through 10 and that’s what you meant I think I understand or they don’t have a 10 it only goes to nine right. And most people only lift hair to a level nine because before when I was platinum and all over blonde just because my hair tends to brass out super fast I would always have her lift me to a level 10 so I wouldn’t have to worry about it constantly getting gross on me and then over doing it with the at toning shampoo. Thank you I love your channel. I’m so happy you made a playlist. Also, I wish more people would make playlist. It makes viewing on UA-cam so much more enjoyable when you don’t have to constantly stop and find another video, it makes research difficult.

    Great video! When you say “tone on the level” and you were toning a level 8, would you still have diluted the formula even at the level 8?
    Also how would you address a mix of highlights that are a level 9 and some that are a level 7-8? How can you tone out the brass of the level 7-8 but still keep the brightness and not darken the level 9 pieces? Thank you :)

    • @theworldofcraig
      @theworldofcraig  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Kelly, thanks for watching and for your kind comments. So my mannequin was a level 9 1/2 - but if you’re referring to when I mention a level 8 and formulating “on the level”…?
      You seem to have understood what I was getting at - if you’re toning hair that is a level 8 and want a “neutral” result, you’d want your formula to be a level 8 + it should contain both violet and blue - “toning on the level”, with the violet for the gold/yellow and the blue for the orange/brass. So if you want to cancel warmth out successfully, there would be no “dilution”.
      Your other question is one I get asked a lot and it’s a great question! And the answer is this -
      You can’t have both a cool/neutral result on multiple levels of blonde - you have to tone to the deepest level of warmth, in your example, a level 7….and the cooler the result the deeper it will look as cool tones absorb light.
      Clients have to make a choice - cool and deeper or a bit of warmth and brighter…
      There’s are LOADS of videos here on my channel that go over these theory points, so please have a scroll through - you might enjoy my “Hair Colour Theory” series, which is all sorted into one playlist.

      Hi there, thanks for watching. Hair colour is so subjective and there are many factors to creating a shade for an individual, so it’s impossible for my to be specific.

    Hi Craig. Where is your salon? And do you take new clients? I live just outside Glasgow in Scotland and am looking for someone to remove the remaining yellow blonde hair to blend into my white/grey natural hair. I’ve tried several “high end”salons in Glasgow but always end up with damaged (still yellow) hair. I’ve since chopped my long hair up to my shoulders and it’s in much better condition (just a bit coarse because it’s mostly silver now) I’m willing to travel to get this sorted once and for all, so I can just continue toning at home and can grow my hair back down again. Thank you

    Always love and appreciate your precious info. Thanks so much. 😊 I have a new client who is growing out her salt and pepper hair (lighter on top and deeper underneath. fyi, she has about 6 inches of her natural roots which I don't want to touch). The color she's growing out is a fading brown (level 5, redish undertones). I'd like to highlight the brown a bit so she doesn't have such a strong demarcation as she's going through the process. Obviously I want to get it to as light as possible without jeopardizing the quality of the hair, and then I want to make it as silvery as I can. I feel a mix of the 9P and 9V with clear would probably be best. Your thoughts? Also, is Shades EQ capable of toning that red out of the old tinted brown, possibly making it more 'grayish' to blend even more. Any reassurance/advice would be appreciated as I'm pretty new to the shades EQ family. Thanks a bunch!

      Hi there, thank you for your kind words and all the support, you are appreciated.
      So I would perhaps (if the highlights are over a level 9…you won’t get a “silver” unless they are) use a mix of 9T/9V/and perhaps a little 9P - the P’s are very blue and that could make things quite deep.
      Yes, SEQG can tone out the warmth - but you have many things going on and to deal with the highlights as well would be tricky.

I know A LOT of people who wish they could just do a blonde shades EQ gloss to give the impression of mostly blonde hair. When hair is greying - at least mine - my hair is fragile and frizzy and I am terrified to use other more harsh products. That and also not wanting to be committed. Thank you!!

    • @theworldofcraig
      @theworldofcraig  11 місяців тому

      Hi there, thanks for watching. I think I mention it in that video, the general rule is - 50% grey…add 50% of an NB shade to your formula - the brighter, bolder shades (coppers/reds/etc) will give very bright results on grey hair.
      There’s a few reasons I haven’t done a designated grey formula video - the main one is that on grey hair, Shades EQ can (not always) leave a slight “shadow” that doesn’t fade completely out…and I wouldn’t want folks to be upset if this happened.

    Hi Craig…. I’m getting highlights on Saturday, ige got shortish hair, and I’m planning on going as blonde as possible, would it be easier for me to just get it bleached or would that be more damaging ?

      Hiya….I think you’ve messaged me before on this - that’s a convo you should have with the person doing your hair. Perhaps pop in for a consult beforehand if at all possible…? They are 2 very different services and I’d need to see/touch your hair and know the “history” before making a call…always best left to the hairstylist doing the work.

      Thanks for watching. That’s a BIG question..
      So a level 10 can be used in a couple of ways - either on a level 10 to “tone on the level” and get a true to tone result or on a deeper level if you want to see the underlying warmth/tone come through. There is a recent (and loads of others) that go into it in more depth here on my channel.

    What about the nine or 10 T and can you explain or share with me the video that explains when to use a level 10 versus level nine? I see that you’re using a level nine instead of a level 10 and it looks beautiful on the hair.

      If I remember correctly, the root formulas in this video are a 9 - the rest of the hair has Clear added to sheer out the tone…a little like using a 10 or “11”. You’d most likely find my other toning videos on here helpful - they are quite recent, so have a scroll through my long form content.

    I’m trying to use Sally Beauty’s generic version, but they don’t sell the clear. Could I achieve a similar effect in another way?

      Hi there, thanks for watching. I’m afraid not - Clear is the only way to “dilute” the tone and get more translucent results.

    Hello Craig! Sorry to bother you again, but I’m getting highlights next week, I’ve had them before but I’ve got no idea how many to get this time, I can send you a photo on Instagram for your professional advice if you want ? Thanks 😀

      Hi there, no worries.
      I’m afraid I don’t think it’s very professional to give advice on specifics when someone else is doing the work - could you perhaps reach out to them?
