Great vid, the one thing you forgot the engine has a oil filter in it. It's the three bolts on the cover above the oil sight glass. Remove the cover and there is a small element filter like the ones that fit in a canister on some of the older engines. Thought you would like to know. You did a great vid that I really liked. Regards: Mark
Oh boy, the memories! I had one of those as a kid, same year. Mine ended up with a web cam, K & N air filter, aftermarket exhaust, and a cylinder and piston from a 185.
Very cool, I just pulled out my childhood lt125 been sitting 20+ years, my 9 year old what's to learn how to get it going, kids funny thou, how long before we can get it going, I'm like your a bit demanding I not even sure we can get parts, the whole fuel system is dried up, and as to why companies won't work on these old dogs, can't get parts/no following like old hondas, alot of parts are discontinued and you really on guys with NOS, Best of luck with yours hopefully I can get my old one going here too
Great vid. I have an Arctic Cat 250 and 300 ATVs that I am working on and learning a lot from all the UA-cam videos such as yours. I have never done this kind of work on these ATVs but I do enjoy it. Thanks again.
My dad bought me the same atv for Christmas new except mine was a 1986 model. It was a reliable four wheeler. It caught hell on a regular basis. I was 10 when I got it and finally sold it when I was 19 after I got a Yamaha Blaster and a 350 Big Bear.
Great little video there Louie. Nice to see you got your 2 helpers learning from 'ol Dad how to do things right ! Never had that when I was a kid, mom & dad got divorced when I was 8yrs. old so I had to learn from my older brothers ,or self teach myself. Keep that up & they'll be smarter than you one day.Cheers Louie. Quinn
I have the same machine. Recently had to replace the tensioner and drive sprocket. Instead of buying an OEM aluminum sprocket tensioner I installed a tractor idler sprocket on the tensioner arm. Saved me about $180. If you need info let me know.
mine has no topend speed only goes under 50kmh if lucky and when it decides kicks in it will do 80kmhs+ but smoke and burn oil. and it doesn't smoke at the -50kmhs when it's in dumby mode not topend torque mode. and it leaks out the exhaust cover. i bought it used and never did a thing but put gas in and drive it. a fun little work toy.
I got an '86 LT230S, basically that except bigger, with suspension, and kick instead of pull. I always just fill the oil to the top line in the sight glass. That usually handles the oil circulation for me, at least.
When I was 12 my dad bought a brand spanking new 1986 Suzuki LT 185 and I rode the heck out of that little bugger, it was bullet-proof !!! That thing had a lot of top end for the size of the engine. Clocked it at 53 mph ( ~ 85 km/h ) on asphalt ( my buddy was following me with his pick-up truck ) ... had so much fun with it. My '86 had a coil-overs in the front but these were so over-sprung it was more for looks than function lolll
I have 2 185's they look exactly the same and one i snorkeled but the crank case breather has a tube pointed to the ground so i hit the water and it filled the air box with water and then flooded the carb i gotta put a straight tube from the crack to the air box and it should be completely snorkeled about 4-5 feet of water.
If there’s to much oil can it cause the machine not to start because that’s what I’m having problems with it won’t start i cleaned the spark plug and carb
If you still have this, can you tell me what your adjustments are on the set screws on the carburetor are please? Someone has messed with mine and i cant figure out where they are supposed to be, a great start would be knowing yours since yours is running. Thanks in advance.
hey, how did you get that front rack? ive been looking everywhere to buy one but cant find one so im thinking about just making one. thanks. good video by the waay
