Suigi is out there. He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until Super Mario 64 is dead.

As someone who spent his Mario 64 days trying to teach baby penguins to fly, I appreciate the dedication and skill it takes to achieve this level of mastery.

For those wondering about possible cheating - Suigi has played at this level at live events w/ other top runners present. At the SWRC Las Vegas 16 Star tournament for instance, where runners have a 3-day span of time to get the fastest run they can get - Suigi got two 14s, including a 14:50 on day 2 of the event. That's a time that would tie 2nd place on the leaderboard today.
thank you for clearing that up, i was worried since so many "good" speedruuner cheat their way to the top in these past years... it's crazy and unbelieveable how good he is!
@SuperLegostarwars1 bro is built different 😂
This makes me surprisingly happy. Always worry when someone pops up out of seemingly nowhere and is just smashing the meters. Since the last video on Suigi, I've really been hoping that all his are genuine
Usually the really good / best people, cheat. Has been that way in Minecraft for example. Not saying he is cheating but wouldn't surprise me if he did in one way or another to get the WR.
Typically cheaters never attend live events for fear of being caught and called out and Cheese/Simply have seen him literally shake due to nerves when on an amazing pace live

Cheese has very insightful takes on other runners, and he pointed out that Suigi's biggest challenge is overcoming his impatience & perfectionism - born from grinding short runs where you can make a mistake & immediately reset. In 70 & 120 star runs it's quite a different mindset, as it's not-so easy to refocus yourself mid-run after getting off-track... so many 120 WRs have teetered on the brink of a reset, but they decided to slog through. It'll be fascinating to see how Suigi's strats balance out against the strategic, stamina-focussed mindset of 120 star... and kudos for mentioning not to hassle Suigi about it, he'll do it in his own time. 👍
If you watch his 70 WR. You can see that early books and the rough WDW would cause a lot of runners to break. Add on top and insane pace still being maintained and then a rough ttc. Most would fail or lose pace.
Sure 120 requires that and more. But if suigi can hold it that well together he should be fine. Also suigi absolutely find 0 star way worse to run mentally. It's a soul destroying category and he seemed actively depressed in those streams after a while.
But a good point is the Kanno can get a good 120 time and he absolutely hates the long categories. But can persevere through.
This is true on other games too that has vastly differently timed categories. It is very easy to get stuck practicing the first half (or any other relevant time period) of the long run and then know nothing about the later half. It is not productive practice long runs only a short segment at a time, because doing those segments consequently is quite different than doing them individually. Even when you've failed, often it is much better to still continue for the rest of the run. Not necessarily for a good time but for good practice.
I've seen a few runners to fall into this trap. Just practicing individual segments to perfection, neglecting full run practices and finally being unable to stitch them all together to get a good time.
Almost all top speedrunners are impatient manchildren though. Well, that goes for the top of almost any category. Seems that world record attitude/talent/skill and getting upset at the smallest things go hand in hand together.
@@thenonexistingherohardly impatient... They dedicate months if not years of their lives to grinding the same game day in, day out... Ofc after all that any little mistake would break their composure at least a little.. I doubt you could grind a game for a week on the same level and keep up the level of patience most speedrunners have for the thousands of hours they put in
Weegee has the same perfectionist mindset, and in his 120 star WR there was a point where he paused and contemplated restarting, but decided to keep going and ended up getting the WR.
Watching this dude play genuinely feels like watching olympic athletes compete. I honestly feel honored just to witness it
In terms of practice and ability he's up there. He's definitely dedicated his life to the game and putting in a similar effort, so I understand where you're coming from.
'He is a machine'
OH A TOOL ASSISTED RUN.
Thank you for the sentiment at the end. It's something a few SM64 runners have also asked their community not to do as well, so I appreciate you doing the same!

Karl always makes me feel good about myself with his opening greeting to us legends.
Remember that one time we did something wrong and then we weren't "absolute" legends for a few months, but just "legends"? 😂
I'm glad that era is over. I think it was that he had a video questioning the veracity of a Super Mario Bros. speedrun, and then some people who watched it jumped to the conclusion that it was forged and then made some noise in the other person's chat
It's a common thing to say in Australia
I have a fairly low opinion of myself, but maybe for a few minutes i'll allow myself to be a legend.

Suigi is scarily good at what he does
Yeah. You really need to be something extra if you can keep 100% focus for such a long time.
Also age. He's younger than other runners so his muscle memory is more attuned to riskier strats.
When clutch time comes, gotta trust your body to carry you through.

This man is the Thanos of Mario 64. Soon he will hold all five. The 120 record is inevitable
I think the 120 is inevitable, but the question is, can he do it before any of the other four records are broken?
After watching him break down for 70 star, I'm not sure I cab handle it if he gets the 5/5
120 star is not inevitable at all. Yeah, he's very good. but 120 star is a beast many amazing speed runners have tried to conquer for decades.

Man this kid is insane! His Mario skills are on another level.
Man I just love the emotion at the WR. Love people being real and not afraid to show how they feel
If the question is "can he do it?" then it's an obvious yes, but man the added pressure of that last record to hold 5 of 5 adds an incredible barrier. I suppose the saving grace is probably that 120 is way more forgiving than something like 0 or 1 star so maybe nerves wouldn't be as impactful, or hell maybe the dude is just made of iron and nerves don't mean shit lmao. Also Karl, you're the only gaming related channel I have with alerts on, just thought you might like to know that haha
Well yes and no. 120 does have more room for error since it's longer, but if your on a really good run, you have to continue to play consistently well throughout the rest of the run, which is much hard since it is longer. 120 is a large mental battle of trying to maintain consistence throughout the whole run, rather than being completely perfect.
I don't know if it's an obvious yes. 120 star is really a different beast than even 70 star considering it's almost 50 minutes longer. And while 120 is forgiving it's still quite optimized where even 7-10 second time losses are rough. He is a legend and if anyone could do it, it's him, but I honestly would be very surprised if he's able to pull it off.
Nerves play a part in _any_ number of stars - the difference is just _how long_ you need to manage them for! The thing about 120-star is that it's a slow burn... imagine the pressure you'd feel to not screw up when you're on WR pace, 40 mins into a 46 minute 70-star run. Now imagine the pressure of playing non-stop for the past _90 minutes,_ you're on pace to beat the 120-star WR time of 1 hr 37 min 35 sec _and_ you need a _perfectly_ timed Bowser throw to finish... the reason these players break down in tears after finishing is their stress is through the roof!
120 is generally considered the hardest main category to my understanding, its kinda insane how hes saved that for last of the 5/5 cause now the nerves are gonna be killer when hes on wr pace
@@SeptaGon7Yeah, it's the hardest and the most coveted one. Holding the 120 star record is really the holy grail of SM64 IMO.

There are so many things that are insane about him and his runs. First, how quickly he was able to get those 4 records is bananas. It should have taken him way longer to go from running 16 star to having competitive 70 star times. He learns insanely fast and picks up strats so quickly. The speed he gets through BLJ’s in 16 star is so crazy to me. I don’t think anyone could improve on that. His movement is so crazy fast. Even if someone could learn all the strats you don’t see movement as fast as his. It is nuts

@@pleasecontactme4274 that's because he takes the most time with research compared to most other speedrun youtubers
These kinds of videos seem to never give credit to the people in 2nd or third place, so with that said here's a little rundown of them:
In 70 Star: Parsee, Dwhatever, Weegee, and Benji are all within striking distance of Suigi. Benji has been getting runs on pace to beat Suigi's time practically every day, but any of the other runners are capable of getting it as well.
In 16 Star: okay, no one is really close to Suigi here tbf. Slip and GTM often get runs on pace to be less than 10 seconds behind Suigi, though.
In 1 Star: Tag, Kanno, cjro, and Weegee are the closest to Suigi, but of them only Tag is within striking distance. It would take an incredible run but Tag is capable of beating Suigi's 1 Star record imo. Also, if Kanno or Weegee decided to play the category they could take the world record as well
In 0 Star: Dowsky, Kanno and cjro are not terribly far behind Suigi's record. Cjro is going for world record on a semi-regular basis, and if Kanno or Dowsky decided to run the category again, they could beat Suigi's time. A tiny bit further behind is Poke, who is also capable of beating Suigi's WR with an amazing run
Tag is 6 seconds behind. That's enormous for that category. Distance is even wider for 0 star. Is it possible that those you mentioned could get wr in near future? Yes. Is it realistic? Not at all. 70 star is more open still, but you're also here overestimating how close his competitors truly are.
@@NetConsole I think they could pretty reasonably get it, say, within the amount of time it would take Suigi to get the 120 Star WR
We know all those runners, and a good portion of them got their time in the limelight...
If the subject of the video was the 70 star speedrun history, in the style of summoning salt videos for example, then yes credit will naturally be given to almost all competing runners. But the subject of this video is specifically suigi, focusing on his current crazy streak.
Nothing out of place here, nothing to point either.
To be fair, being "on pace to be less than 10 seconds behind first" in 16 star says a LOT about Suigi. In a comparatively short category (compared to 70 or 120, at least) 10 seconds is a big gap.
Also it's interesting how "bunched up" the times of second through fourth/fifth are with Suigi quite a bit out in front in several of these categories. I'd say anyone in the Top 5 of any of them COULD potentially go on a tear and beat the current record. But the feeling I get is that, at the moment at least, Suigi is the best player in the game. I don't believe (from my admittedly fairly limited experience) that any of the current runners-up are capable of a record that Suigi couldn't beat. I don't see any of them smashing his record by the amount that he is currently ahead. At the moment Suigi simply feels like the dominant player. However this will likely change in the coming months/years. One of the cool things about SM64 is that no matter how ascendant one runner is at any given time, the leaderboards are never static. While one person can rule the game for a time, there's almost always someone around the corner who will challenge and dethrone them in time.
No mention of cheese, is he not competitive anymore?
I tried SM64 speedruns and they are tough, I like all of the QOL additions Kaze E has built for the system. He just did a video on all the optimizations

@@Booobay i'm sure liam will get wr any moment and before suigi gets close enough, but once suigi starts the grind for 120 he'll most likely steal it despite a new wr from liam and get 5/5 eventually.
If someone gets to steal a wr from suigi before that it'll probably be the 70
@@frijolitoazul4343 it's probably fair to say 120 is hardest due to sheer length. won't be as free as you seem to make it out to be.
@@Booobay it is harder which will probably mean more grinding required, but being the hardest due to lenght also makes it the one with more room for improvement, i also doubt suigi in the beggining but he just keeps proving himself to be able to do it all
In the 5+ years of SM64 speedruns being in the public consciousness one could've never imagined this level of dominance considering just how played and competitive it is. Let's see if Suigi does reach the historic 5/5.

Green Suigi is the John Wick of Mario 64. He's not just the GOAT, he's the one you hire to demolish the GOAT. There have been several GOATs in Mario 64 history but Suigi might be the one to rule them all
"there have been several GOATs" heavily betrays the acronym.
He's definitely the best player by far, but can he sweep the 5 records? They definitely aren't going to want him to.
So proud of the Suigi, went all the way from SMM2 livestreams and humble practice to the N64 god
It’s incredible how capable your character is in Mario 64… super crazy if you handle the controller like an instrument
I can't watch one of these videos now without thinking "did they cheat tho?" Exposed videos have ruined speedruns for me 😅
I think if they mandated hand cam it would be a lot easier to validate records
Suigi has played at this level at live competition w/ other top runners. And in general, cheat detection in the SM64 community is very far advanced. None of the top level runners, who would know the best and be affected the most, have ever raised suspicions of cheating - he is just that good.
@@twig7219 this is definitely not a direct accusation at the runner and my apologies to them if it seems so.
Remember what Karl said about this: cheating in Speedrunning is way less common than the videos out there would make you believe.
Scepticism is fine but don't let it degrade into cynicism
And this is the exact reason why cheating speedruns is such a heinous thing to do. Because once in a millennium an actual god-tier player comes along and is actually legitimately that good, but because so many assholes just cheat for quick validation you can't help but have doubts. Which isn't fair to them at all, they deserve nothing but praise and a place in the history books. Suigi is the one person for whom all speedrun cheat expose videos are made, the guy that cheaters try to be and never can.
...assuming he's legit ofc. But I'll trust that SM64 proof standards are high enough that I don't have any good reason to assume the opposite.
Hello im from the future and we all know how this story ends
Hope he gets it, his reactions when he gets those records are priceless
Karl and summoning salt uploading videos within hours of each other?

I wonder if we'll see him on top across the board.
Great video, I said it before and had some people disagree but I’ll say it again, for the foreseeable future, nobody will be beating GreenSuigi and his 16 star record, and heck maybe for the future, it’ll be near impossible to beat any of his records. He just keeps improving so much faster than anybody else that it’s not even close at this point
Time has proven that these types of statements are always false. There will come a new skip or strat that enables people to beat him in the future. Almost 100% guaranteed.
@@dannass5 I would agree for any category that isn’t fully optimized, I still hold to my point for that 16 star run cuz of the 25 years of optimization for it and how nobody is close skill wise.
