- In this X Plane 11 Flight Vlog I fly the Cessna 182 from Bournemouth To Cardiff VFR using Vatsim. I'm joined by good friend and fellow UA-camr The Flying Report and some of our supports are flying along too! Huge thank you to all the ATC Controllers who came online to support.

Hi Ben, Well as you know I follow you in real world aviation and participate in the Xplane community too. I found your video surprisingly immersive for simulation. Many X Plane video's just concentrate on the graphics and scenery where by connecting to Vatsim you have added a whole new level of immersion. Well done very enjoyable. Ian
Very nice video Ben - especially flying with the Jon. Just a tip, you can turn on VHF simulation in Squawkbox to make the RX a lot more realistic since the Comms in your video is very clear.

Plane Old Ben I was saying to Jon on his video that if I get the gear to do sim flying I’ll get too distracted from the ATPLs which would not be good.

Hello, and firstly, Thank you for this video production, I enjoyed immensely. Whilst i am also using ORBX TE all three for UK, and Cardiff (EGFF) and a good many others, I was just wondering, if you may be indeed using Vulkan at the time of recording? The Animated fuel Truck At Cardiff (GA Parking) area on your video is fully rendered, (i see the textures on it). On My system with ORBX TE South and ORBX Cardiff installed, with Vulkan it seems to be totally greyed out. Now i am not entirely sure why, or if indeed it has some issue with Vulkan on my system. I would ask if you might shed some light on my particular issue here? Or indeed if any other X plane 11 virtual pilots could? Regards.
Note: I tried in both Vulkan, and pre Vulkan sessions and produced the same result.

Pooleys iPlates what are your thoughts regarding using them for real-life IFR flying? reliable?
Pooleys don’t produce IFR plates, I’d recommend Jeppesen for that.
As a suggestion, there’s a great freeware SR22 G6 for xplane made by a dev called Hold my Beer if you’re interested!
Hi Ben, thanks for posting! I'm a bit confused about your join at Cardiff. On the approach it said left hand circuit for R30, and you were directed to the VRP which was to the right hand side of the field for R30. From there it looked like you joined final from a right hand base leg? If so, were you directed to do so, or did you take the decision yourself? 🤪(Confused from Tatenhill!)
I too heard Cardiff Radar tell another pilot it was left hand circuit RWY 30 - but I think that was an error. I didn't catch any such instruction to Ben. He was instructed by TWR to "join and report final". The NATS chart show the entry lane from the lighthouse to be NW from the lighthouse, parallel to RWY centreline, then turn left to the airfield (avoiding flying overhead the chemical works at Barry) which puts one on, as you say, a right hand base leg. I think we can let him off cutting the corner as he was busy making a YT video :)
It's worth simmers looking at the aerodrome page on the Vatsim UK website, which contains the charts one needs and information you will be expected to know. For example, the VFR section says that "all visual circuits are to the north".
The join from the Pooleys reads: “Enter Cardiff CAS via Weston aerodrome, route North of Flat Holm Lighthouse towards Lavernock Point, then as directed by Cardiff ATC”. The circuit in use may have been left hand but air traffic can clear aircraft to join from a right hand direction - that’s happens a lot at Blackpool you may have seen it in a video. I tracked ‘towards’ Lavernock Point and called tower to request join. Tower told to me “join and report final RWY30” - if ATC wanted me to join via the left hand circuit I’d have been cleared to join Crosswind and then into the left hand circuit.

Great vid Ben, how did you connect Skydemon to the sim?
Just tick use third party navigation devices in X-Plane and turn it on in the settings in SkyDemon. Nice and simple!

I live in Leeds and I want to do my PPL at Sherbon when I’m 15 do you know if that is a good airfield to do training and if not we’re is a alternative choice.

You do realise Ben that if you had used those comms to enter Barton (sorry, Manchester City airport) they would have filed a MOR ;-) have a look for "Barton" in the Flyer GA forum.
What do you think of the Honeycomb yoke; what did you use before?

Well you would have to if you visited Barton John. More worrying, it appears the CAA have decided that it IS the correct way, thank goodness most airfields take a more common sense view.

You need to download the CSL files for you're vatsim client then the aircraft will show up correct

Ben, they're not super cheap at about £150, but get yourself a TrackIR. They are essential for sims.

By the way, you should install Windows 10 Bootcamp on your mac. 100% better performance :)
Unfortunately not possible since Catalina use a partition already ... confirmed with the Apple support : no way to use Boot Camp with Catalina.
