Thanks for the review. I own a 10w and a 18w. Both good for the price. I also made an app for iPhone to control them both with many settings and options and made it free on the AppStore for us techs. It's called ipCamControl-Lite. Don't take this as spam as the app is free. I love technology like you and made this for us :)

I tried this once. I think it was in my very first Foscam video. The result was invalid because the IR LED light bounced off the wire mesh outside my window and ruin the video quality. All I saw was a white image. All the windows in my house have a wire mesh. It's not something I can take off and put back on easily. If I think of an alternative, I'll let you know.
I think $140 is a good price, but I would wait for it to be at that price from an authorized reseller, whether it's on eBay, Amazon, or others. It makes calling their test support easier. I had to call them when I got my FI9821W because of the wifi speaker issue.

When the camera loses Wifi, it's suppose to reconnect when it finds the wifi again. But, a lot of my viewers have been telling me their Wifi issues. You can buy 3rd party AC adapter devices to let you restart the Foscam remotely. Those probably cost as much as the Foscam. Can't comment on the failure rate because I had 3 FI8918W. One had problem focusing, 1 would freeze, 1 was OK.. Had many FI8910W but I gave them all away after a month so I don't have any long term usage data. FI9821W is new.
All 3 IRs came on at the came time. It's automatic so I can't adjust when it'll come on by itself. The FI8920W requires a longer throw distance. So when the object is 6 feet away, then it doesn't look so washed out. The next time I perform the audio test, I'll move the computer to a different room. Thanks for watching.
Is it true that the FI9820W will not retain Network Settings during a power failure? Does the FI8910W have this issue? Does 2-way audio work simultaneously allowing a conversation to take place? A lot of reviews have stated that 2-way audio does not work. Thank you.

It retains the network settings after a power failure. They all do. The audio can be two way if you turn both mic and speaker on. But I personally don't like the quality so I don't use the audio.

They support WPA/2 but I haven't used it. The 1MP one, FI9820W supports wireless N, but the flaws of the 1MP model is significant enough for me to not buy it.
Try to get your money back or get the FI9821W. The FI9820W is not the same as the 21W. They're different in so many ways. I was going to make a comparison video of the 20W vs the 21W but decided against it because all I would have been doing was bashing the 20W. Besides, it's not that easy to buy the FI9820W now a days so I just focused on talking about the FI9821W. I have a link to the 21W in the description of this video. I wish you luck.
Perhaps you have and I didn't see it but have you compared the F19820W vs. F19821W? I only ask because I purchased the F19821W direct from Foscam and bought another on Ebay, only the Seller "decided" to send me the F19820W and claims it's better, although I'm reading about a firmware update fault. Neither show up for me as I get a Socket Error in the IP Camera Tool software but, ultimately, should I return the F19820W.

Setting up the alerts is easy. ua-cam.com/video/Iz7F7Vyf-EQ/v-deo.html But, I don't use it because of the sheer amount of false alarms and blurry images.

Foscam FI9821W ? I want to see how well it can see in total darkness. It's $159.99. 1280 x 720p, 1.3MP. I don't understand how it's 1.3MP, seeing that 1280 x 720 is only 0.9MP (921,600 pixels). I want to also know if I can buy an IR floodlight for it. Will any IR Light work for this, which I'm pretty sure it will, just want to make sure before I buy the Foscam FI9821W, which is the best one, and it costs just as much as my HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition. These are IP cameras which connect directly either wired or wireless to a router. A web cam has to be connected to a PC which intern has to be switched on continuously for it to act as a security camera and be accessed from the web and requires software to adapt it. The camera might be £7 but the PC and the software cost considerably more and limit the web cameras capabilities.
Sorry that you wasted your money on the FI8920W camera. Foscam does have a newer model called FI8921W and let's hope it is not just a rebadged FI8920W. I have several FI8910W and thanks to your videos I set up my cameras with ease. I also recommended some friends to your videos because they wanted to set up some cameras as well. I have an iPhone and need the compatibility to view the cameras. I like the FI8910W but wishing for better video quality. Hoping the FI8921W is the answer.
Consumers should also be aware how powerful the IR lights are on these things, I was almost blinded by exposure to them. You should be very careful, especially with infants if you are using this as a baby cam as they cannot tell you what is happening to them. IR light can not be perceived by your eyes, so you have no idea how bright it is and how much damage you are receiving until your vision starts to blur. It comes on automatically and there is no way to turn it off permanently.
For what it's worth, I am looking at these various reviews because I just RETURNED a 9821w. The software is absolute junk. Doesn't work, Won't send emails reliably, FTP doesn't work, Camera might not be bad, but the interface is horrific.
The Foscams are overpriced for what they are, and don't even bother getting the older models, as they have no innate compression and .3 mp is worthless for any serious security monitoring. 1MP is a minimum. I recommend the Edimax 3015/3115, as it's 1.3 MP and only $50-60. You don't get IR and no PTZ, but I don't need it.

It can. Some do. I don't recommend it because it's not rated for outdoor use and if you live anywhere near where I live, it won't survive the winter.

They all work in safari. But with the FI9820W, it's not that good. Poor interface in Safari.
