@ I respectfully disagree. CDPR began development of 2077 back in 2012, that’s a long time ago in video game years. Most of the concerning stuff that I’d point to has happened in the past few years. That and Pondsmith was the creative lead for 2077 and he’s got no part of W4 obviously. CD Projekt Red embracing Division-Exclusion-Indoctrination, reducing Ciri to an actual Witcher as opposed to embrace her elder blood heritage and be her own character, and most important of all, a urinalist-turned-lore master wanting to punch gamers and gaslighting them for being fans of Cyberpunk. For me it's not Ciri's new design nor the lore changes. It's them hiring activists that want to punch gamers.
They already proved to be liars with Cyberpunk 2077 and they are going to change Witcher 1 remake so I have no reason to trust them.
They aren't the same company that made Witcher 3 anymore than Bioware is the same company that made Veilguard so I don't trust them therefore I won't support them regardless of overall quality. Too many red flags and burned bridges to support studios that hire people that hate us.

They 100% completely changed the shape of her face (her skull) to make her look less attractive. I'm not the type that NEEDS "hot" characters, but it is a red flag if a developer has a hatred for attractive characters, enough hatred to actually UGO-FY a previously beautiful character. That means they have a gospel and a dogma they are following.

They did not. Stop lying to yourself. First of all, she is incredibly attractive. Her bone structure is basically a 1:1 copy. her iconic straight browline and high cheek bones framing her eyes are the same as well as the forehead and pointy chin with a classic and aesthetic V shape female jawline.
Look closer. There is only one frame in the trailer where the lighting does not favor her features, with harsh 45 degree lighting in the sun.
You've never seen Ciri of W3 in such lighting with deep dark shadows in her face because the engine has not been able to cast such defined shadows.
I don't know where you get your beauty standards from, and I seriously hope you do not think all women look like 16 year old instagram girls. The 35 year old Ciri in the trailer still meets many beauty standards.

The problem is that the explanation for Ciri surviving the Trial of the Grasses as an adult woman ("Ciri is superhuman") already holds the reason why it makes no sense for Ciri to undergo the mutations in the first place. Ciri has a large set of special powers and it was established in The Witcher 3 that Ciri goes on The Path as a Witcher using these powers instead. Of course, these would have to be nerfed from her status as a demi-goddess in TW3 for the sake of game progression.
We see none of these here. Instead, we are shown abilities that up until now Ciri shouldn't be able to use: Witcher potions and elemental school magic. I doubt that there is any story under the sun that would make this a better concept than continuing with what Ciri had been in The Witcher 3. And if we think about why a company like CDPR, of all people, desperately wants to add some "transformation story" to this character we should be seriously worried.

In Kaer Morhen they started her on some herbs and elixirs, never intending for her to go through the full trial - deadly as that was - and even those herbs and elixirs were enough to have negative effects on her, according to Triss. I can't remember if it was because of the elder blood, because she's female or a combination of both.

    • @reignmans
      @reignmans Місяць тому +2

@@nuhre On the other hand i can totally understand why Ciri would want to get rid of her powers.
Every magical entity worth their weight in salt, that Ciri runs into, over the course of her life seems to immediately know exactly what she is and devises some sort of horrifying plan to kill, mutilate, sexually assault, etc. her. If undergoing the mutations is risky, but allows her to live life on her own terms... well, that seems like there's potential motivation to do that.
She's the result of a multi-generational breeding experiment by a shadowy cabal of wizards who desire her for something. Her own father conceived her under false pretenses with that in mind, murdered her mother, and then wanted to do incest with her. Interdimensional elves repeatedly try to kidnap her and sexually coerce her into having a child with them. Her adoptive mother's friends demand for her to be married to the heir of a king for dynastic reasons.
Some of those are solved, but at a pretty high cost- her entire family has to stop and fight a titanic set-piece battle and her uncles get got at a frankly unsustainable rate. If you don't save Lambert that's three in one game with Vesemir and Crach en Craite.
There's a lot of incidentals too- she runs into Brokilon as a kid and Queen Eithné immediately has her pegged and wants her brainwashed. She runs into some intergalactic unicorns, and they debate a summary execution because of what she is. She teleports into a random forest clearing, and a weird hermit knows she's special and wants to do cannibalism and necrophilia. Teleports into a random swamp, and three mystical Hags want to eat some of her before giving her to other pursuers.
That seems like a pain in the ass, maybe roll the dice and mutate your DNA into something that's not useful to all these fucking weirdos.

Having read the entire series of the Witcher books, I hope you enjoy them when you get to read them yourself. I found them to be exceptional dark fantasy unlike any fantasy books I have read before. The trilogy of games created by CDPR is like a love letter Andrzej Sapkowski's books. They pick up where the books end, bringing both new stories and a fascinating retreading of a few of the plots in the books. I recommend checking the first couple of games as well. They are so well-made, and they will round out the experience of the books and the third game.

I got to relate to your opinion, I am willing to give CDPR a chance if they address Ciri’s Elder Blood is the reason behind her surviving the mutation process. But the implementation of DEI writing practices within the studio are a 50/50 gamble if they find a way to make it work like God of War Ragnarock, or if it will be more stereotype bait like VeilGuard.
Before the DEI standards, we had great representation of LGBT characters and various races of characters in Cyberpunk2077 because CDPR addressed them as people first, but now with the devs seeming to attack anyone critical of the Witcher 4 trailer (the potion Ciri used or the fact they replaced her actress) that are nowhere near the same complaints of the “face” coomers, it leaves me concerned if they went overboard.

I share your concerns here. The trailer itself would be fine if it weren't for what we've heard from and about CD Projekt Red as a company since ~2023, and the nature of some of the changes which are clearly being made -- for example: the School of the Lynx medallion that Ciri is wearing comes from an AU fanfiction rather than from the novels, and the fact that they're using fanfics as cannon is concerning, especially considering their current "loremaster". Then there's her appearance, which on it's own wouldn't bother me as the appearance of each character has changed from game to game, but the specific changes here are very much in line with current "woke" corporate politics which does cause me to raise an eyebrow.
If you're curious about lore in general, the best breakdown video's I've seen are from the youtube channel "Wera", which is mainly a book channel rather than a gaming channel, but she's huge fan of the novels and has videos discussing the differences in lore between the books and the games and Netflix series, as well as the books on their own.

Ciri is cute and badass and I enjoyed playing as her in witcher 3, I even brought the game guide book that includes illustrations of all the main characters, And let me tell ya the art is fantastic and the women are all beautiful. Look up Ciri's face in witcher 3 and then look at ciri's face model in witcher 4. It's night and day. And the reason why I said girl boss 'sigh' is because no female can become a full fledged witcher according to the book canon, also ciri has elder blood which makes her overpowered mary sue when it comes to magic and time manipulation. I know she is older in witcher 4 but why is she ugly? I love women and beauty is subjective indeed.

Ciri could have been so much more than a basic Witcher! no disrespect to Witchers but she had a whole different story. Making her a Witcher reeks of lazy writing, that they simply wanted to utilize existing game mechanics by giving some lame explanation that she went through the trials successfully because of her abilities. That she "can do what men do". Boring, annoying and such a waste potential. Also I didn't like that they gave her fuller cheeks as if she eats a ton. If she makes her money as a Witcher she is not supposed to eat much. As for her being bi, wasn't she groomed by some woman in a gang that Ciri joined because she was basically trying to survive as a young girl alone in a post-war world where not only food was scarce but also it was simply dangerous not to have a powerful protector? I remember this story as being quite bothering, because I understood that Ciri had no choice and that her psyche just adapted to the situation. Way to make her a lesbian.

I'm so torn about this one. I'm worried about CDPR, they've been slipping BioWare Style since a year or so before Cyberpunk came out. I don't have faith in them any more than I have in current BioWare or current Obsidian or current Ubisoft.. or current MOST AAA studios lately. I *hate* what the devs are doing on socials at the moment, it's Veilguard and Avowed all over again.
That said, the cinematic looks good. Ciri looks good. I hate that she's a full Witcher with a passion, but I can deal with that eventually.
What I REALLY hate is that they've gaslit their customers saying "they have been laying the seeds for Ciri to be the next protagonist since Witcher 3" when they literally gave us CHOICES about what she becomes at the end of the third game. Only ONE of those choices was for her to become a Witcher, and it was NEVER a discussion that she'd take that final trial, she was just going to hunt monsters with her natural abilities.
I don't give a shit about the 'female witcher" thing, because like it or not, the contracts were renegotiated in 2019 and more lore was introduced. The angry fans screaming about it being "fanfiction" can dislike it all they want, but it's still here. It's not going anywhere. The interview where the author said it was "disgusting" was long ago and he's given more interview with more nuanced discussion many times since that interview.
The TV series has happened. The Author has done a lot of interviews since the Witcher 3 and said he used subtext and left things out of the books that he felt he couldn't include because of the time and country he wrote the books in. That included queer characters and female archetypes... and there's also the TTRPG that has Cat and Manticor schools who had (exceptionally rarely) successfully mutated female witchers. So from that aspect, it's 'unorthodox', but it's not "forbidden" like a lot of the hardcore fans of the OG books say.
I'm just worried that the devs are pulling out a LOT of lines that mimic almost word for word, the writer for the Netflix series. If they are going down THAT route, I'm so uninterested it almost hurts.
Ugh I'm just a ball of conflicting feelings about this one and I will NOT be playing it until there are many full clear reviews post release. If it looks great, I'll buy it then.

I am not too bothered that they chose to make Ciri a witcher. It is a choice in the witcher 3, and granted in lore it is an extreme rarity - but it has been done (even though no one is clear on why it has worked in those rare instances). I can only hope that they lean into the idea that her elder blood has helped her survive the trials, but only time will show 🤷🏻‍♀️
What concerns me more than anything is the company its self. And the changes that the company has gone through since Witcher 3. Cyberpunk is a good game but that dreadful launch and the horrid state of the game at launch is still a very fresh memory even though they were able to get the game in a beyond playable state.
The signs aren’t in CDPR’s favour though… can only hope that they rather surprise us than disappoint us, but I am not holding my breath.

I think it's sadly hilarious how people go at each others throat about Ciri. I'm no friend of todays western game politics at all but when there is a woman who deserves to be a female lead in a video game than it IS her.
As a book reader I can definitely say it doesn't break the lore from what we have seen here, there is no line that stated a female witcher would be a impossible thing, so there is room to make new stuff up for her story in the game.
It has to be written in a sensible way of course, but to judge about the game how many many people did after just one trailer, is pretty sad.
To make the story focus on fighting sexism makes actually sense, too. Considering that the witcher world IS besides sorceressesses and a few side characters very traditional and medieval. The question is only if the devs can distinct between modern politics and ingame while writing about it? That is the only thing that concerns me a bit... but it is important in my opinion to beware some credibility and only judge something when there is actual reason to do so for the trailer is actually pretty good imo.
I know the current state of CDPR is questionable but still, I heard contrary things about it, good and bad. So I think they deserve the benefit of a doubt at least until we know more.

Oh bloody hell. Here we go again.
Like many people here, I thoroughly enjoyed The Witcher III and the books. To be totally fair, one can argue that Ciri, not Geralt, is the main character (she has more pages than Geralt, and most, if not nearly all of the books’ events besides short stories focus on her).
But, I’m beyond sick and tired of this DEI garbage being shoved everywhere. I’ll acknowledge that I have immediate family members who are gay, and I work with trans people. Live and let live.
But there’s an old saying: if you’re making something for everyone, you’re making something for no one. Forcing DEI into games doesn’t work. Look at Avowed and Veilguard as two examples. Veilguard alone was aimed at a ‘modern audience’ that either never showed or doesn’t exist!
I would love nothing more than to see this game succeed. But there are red flags already that are making me nervous.

It's obvious that CDPR, in my opinion at least, doesn't care about the fans. They don't care about the lore. They have an agenda. They deliberately ignored the books, twisted the information there AND ignored precedent established in their own video game adaptation of it.
Not only that, but it appears, once again in my estimation, that they uglified Ciri. In Witcher 3 Ciri was a gorgeous woman, but here they brought the "avert the male gaze" hammer down upon this beloved character. That trailer rendition was not the Ciri people got to know.
CDPR, in my estimation, is heading the way of Bioware and will ruin The Witcher like Bioware ruined Dragon Age. Buyer beware.

For a company to openly broadcast dei the way cdpr did knowing full well this will not go down well signals to me that the personnel currently employed at cdpr will not be able to craft a product specifically a story which does not push dei politics. Its sad but even if there are employees against dei or a game director with great ideas when taken as a whole the company has already told us what they stand for. CDPR could have easily employed dei without broadcasting it but the fact they did is illogical and tips the scale towards skepticism.

idc what kind of weak explanation CDPR is gonna give about Ciri being a witcher, mutations and all.
    what we know
girls and trials of the grasses = 100% mortality rate.
adults and trials of the grasses = should be close to 100% mortality rate.
What we know is they only did it to very young boys because their bodies were more malleable than adults bodies, still in the process of changing and growing. Adult bodies aren't, and as such the trials would be even more deadly for them than for children. It's possible that adults aren't capable of surviving the trial of the grasses at all, let alone at the three out of ten rate that young boys survived.
Then we know that both Geralt and Yennefer would NEVER allow her to do it. It's stupid and unnecessary to die in order to get powers that are already way below the powers she already possess.
About the people calling her "ugly" idk.... they must have extremely high standards, cuz she looks fine af.
My only gripes are lore wise and the new former journo they hired who hates white people and gamers in general.

You seem to have a very common-sense position on CDPR, I like it. They have clearly made some poor choices so this game will be a true test of their integrity. If we see them changing their hiring practices over the coming years, there may be a chance for this to be good.
Regarding female Witchers... apparently the books never explicitly say that women can't be Witchers. Their absence is likely because it's such a dangerous process for a physically demanding and lonely lifestyle that there is no real reason for women to even want to try it. So if it's not a contradition, finding a way for Ciri poses no real narrative problem. I prefer to play as Geralt, but if the game is well designed and the story is engaging I could embrace any protagonist.
If anyone is wondering why the protagonist of any Witcher game (Ciri or not) absolutely has to be a Witcher, it's surely because all the gameplay elements are so Witcher-specific: The silver sword; the blade oils, potions and bombs; the collecting of ingredients and schematics for upgrades; the monster contracts; the tracking; the meditation, etc, etc... None of that makes sense for a mage or even a normal warrior. Unless you're a Witcher in this world, it would feel nothing like the other Witcher games and probably be quite restricting.

Man, my comment seem to have been deleted by UA-cam. Sad. But I'll just TLDR my point. Ciri as an ACTUAL female Witcher reeks of D.E.I and reeks of the same stink as is with games like Veilguard, because it essentially boils everything down to the same, lazy and canon breaking decisions as games like that. Literally in the first like chapter of Ciri's, the Witchers and Triss's introduction, Ciri being introduced even to the herbs of the Witchers was enough to incite a major conflict between Triss and the Witchers because o the survival rate of the trial. Like, really, anyone with a function brain risk a gambling odds of 1 in a million?
And as people said, the explanation of "Ciri is superhuman" is a terrible explanation because even that contradicts previous games, let alone books. She is super human but she ain't immortal, undying or anything like that. So the idea of her willingly going under the experiment on an absolute miniscule chance? Yeah, that's not Ciri. Even she ain't that dumb.

The original devs already left the company after the Cyberpunk disaster. They went to Warhorse Studios, and some of them formed their own studio named Rebel Wolves. They are replaced by activists, and yes, the new witcher game is made by these activists, not the original devs. Activists only want to implement their agendas in video games and make them the main focus instead, nothing else. They only care about their ideology, they don't care about you, and they will never change. So the "just wait and see" or "I believe in CDPR" type of comments are useless. But it make even less sense... because people who lead the entire project, worked on The Witcher 3 (on Cyberpunk too) and are huge fans of The Witcher franchise. So thinking they will butcher this franchise for "weird" reason make absolutely no sense.

@@lekillerfou You don't know what you are talking about or actively lying. The creative leads for the Witcher 3 are now gone and CD Project Red are a shadow of the company they once were. They are actively pushing DEI hires which means they prioritize race/sex over skill and talent. They have dropped the Red Engine because the people that made it have left and now they move to a new engine that they can hire low talent people straight from university to work on it. Ciri looks like she has spent the last 20 years smoking 40 cigarettes a day getting plastic surgery and botox, taking testosterone and getting mauled by bears daily. Noone wants to play as a scarred up grandma and I've read ALL the books. I dont care that Ciri is the main character I care they made her so ugly I don't want to look at that on my screen for 100 hours or more. Zero faith in CD Porject Red anymore they are not the same company of the past.

Yup, I don’t have hope for that one. Even without the ideological poisoning, I never liked the ending where she becomes a Witcher. Didn’t bother me before cause that was just an end to what I thought was the end of the series.

Sadly CD Project have said clearly that the most important for them is woke and carbon footprint and the points this give them.
But if it turns out that Witcher 4 is just as good as 3, i am willing to play it.
But because of all the woke propaganda, i will only do it if they pay me 10 dollar to download it.
That is the prize i take to accept their bad political propaganda that i am immune towards, but that is extremely irritating.

I mean, Ciri was not meant to be the next protagonist? For me is just the natural step forward, not a big fan of the lore but she has powers too and yara yara, crazy for me people talking about the books when the creator did say he do not agree on CD vision 100%.

While the company has evolved, it continues to bring in fresh, talented minds, including modders and young scriptwriters who are shaping its future. Enthusiasts like Halk Hogan, whose work on The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project was officially recognized, and many other passionate creators have been invited to join CDPR's ranks. The studio might have changed, but it's far from gone-it’s now a blend of experienced veterans and new talents who keep the spirit of creativity alive.

All the devs left because the company got too woke, they made their own companies. Also Ciri shouldn’t be a Witcher even with elder blood that doesn’t change her biology or that she is human. The trail of grasses etc would still kill her and there should be no way for her to even become a Witcher since the method was destroyed
