At the same time Phantom Liberty was absolutely phenomenal. One way or another wait for gameplay, worst case scenario wait few days after the game comes out. There is no reason to have an opinion at this point. There is many ways they can screw it up and many ways they can make it work, only time will tell.
@@Cyrsztof No reason? The disastrous launch they just had with CP2077 and then making another complete shift for their other IP, isn't enough to be skeptical? I very much have an opinion and it's not a good one. When developers show me who they are, I tend to believe them.
I don't mind Ciri being the MC, but CDprojekt embracing ESG has me feeling cautious... Also this probably isn't coming out until 2028 so this trailer should not have come out in my opinion. I hate it when things are revealed too early. I am disappointed with Bethesda, but revealing Fallout 4 a few months before release in 2015 was fantastic 👍
The problem I have with her being the MC is she has to be hardcore nerfed for it to make any sense. Ciri is basically a demigod, pretty much nothing is actually a threat to her if she decides to use her powers, and the only reason she was holding back before was the Wild Hunt, which have been destroyed so now there's just not really a reason for her to not use her powers whenever and wherever she pleases.
Why would you think it isn't due out until 2028 or that they shouldn't have dropped a trailer now? After getting away with the cyberflunk launch they can do whatever they want... Like releasing trash games then charging more for the fix years later in the form of an "expansion". "Gamers" love to eat shit, CDPR has learned this and are now just another shit show like so many others.
She was set to be the protagonist of any future Witcher release back when the 3rd game's final DLC came out. One major ending option on the base game had Ciri continuing to train as a Witcher, Blood & Wine DLC had Geralt retire. Fans ASKED for a Ciri lead sequel. These things shouldn't be ignored because of recent trends in the industry.
Considering she's supposed to be a unique individual in time and space and magic exists, I think it should be easy for CDPR to come up with a plausible reason why she's a normal Witcher now and doesn't have the powers she had in the Witcher 3.
There are a lot more reasons to be skeptical of this game than the trailer. CDPR has lost a lot of top talent in recent years and has invested heavily into esg and dei initiatives.
Exactly my concern as well. I believe most gamers enjoy a good female mc as long as she is well-written. But the talents that can cook are no longer working there. Might be another 'agenda shield'
Thankfully with CDPR games you always wait a couple years for the bugs to get fixed before buying so you always have a lot of reviews out to know how infested it is with this stuff
The problem serious people are having with the trailer is that Ciri cannot actually become a witcher, regardless of how much she wants to be one. She can't sign, she can't use normal magic, she doesn't have the heightened senses, she can't control her metabolism, and she can't drink witcher potions. She is, for all intents and purposes, an extremely skilled but otherwise normal woman, except for her Elder Blood powers, which make her far, far, far more powerful than any other character or monster in the entire multiverse, which is why she was able to keep up with Geralt and the witchers despite not having the mutations. As both a female and as an adult, she cannot survive the Trial, she cannot acquire the mutations, and frankly, she doesn't need them anyway.
I'm sorry, but as someone who absolutely adores the Witcher and the lore, this is just a non-problem for me. It's absolutely something I want to have explained, and I'm sure they will explain it because they've explained every other thing in the games that branches out from the books, but it's in no way going to make or break my experience. It's puzzling to me why people are honing in so much on this specific lore aspect. There's clearly been a large time jump, and if there's any person who could survive the Trial of Grasses after childhood, it's Ciri. I'm fairly sure I even remember Vesemir commenting in the books about her potential to become a Witcher. This just doesn't feel like a "problem" that serious people should be having. A point of discussion and theorizing, sure, but it's not going to be what decides if this game lives up to the Witcher 3 or not.
She can as long as CDPR conveys a strongly convincing explanation as to why she ended up going through the Trial of the Grasses (if she did). People forget that the games are basically a well constructed fan-fiction within the books layout. We don’t know what happened to her Elder Blood, if anything happened to start. CDPR knows the fanbase and wouldn’t disrespect by giving no explanation at all. I’m sure they know what they’re doing.
Definitely agree! But we always knew she would be the centerpiece for their next Witcher game. I’m hoping they can better explain how she became a Witcher how that affects her elder powers and what it means for her character moving forward. They said they would be taking you through the trials so that’s something as long it makes sense to the story and lore. She also doesn’t have a code and you get to shape her as a Witcher which is pretty interesting aspect. This isn’t the same people who gave you Witcher 3 one the best games of all time but the same team that released cyberpunk liberty which was amazing so I have some high hopes.
Witcher 3, The Lady of Space and Time, Ciri is literally teleporting through dimensions. She has crazy elder blood powers. This whole trailer I'm like, surely she is going to teleport. Instead she is just a witcher? I mean, they can try to ration it to me I guess, but this seems like a step down for her honestly. They set her up to be pretty powerful. I really liked Ciri at the end of Witcher 3, I don't need her to be Geralt reincarnated.
pretty sure she still have that power, just like asmon said, cant really base it off a trailer, we gotta wait until the game came out to see whats the deal with her
@@Not_CIA i think they retcon her whole Story She not only have no powers but her son was suppose to be the heir of the world after "Ragnarok" So now she can't get pregnant by A) being a Witcher or B) 40 years old 🤣
Ciri is awesome but they shouldn’t change lore. She doesn’t need to be a literal Witcher to be a badass. By literal Witcher I’m referring to undergoing the mutations.
Lore accuracy wise, there is no way in hell Geralt would be able to survive a fight with Detlaff either, or even take the job. Canonically in the books Geralt said himself that no amount of coins would ever convince him to take a job against a Higher Vampire. Geralt even admitted himself that he's lucky Regis was friendly because Regis would've destroyed Geralt. Yet here we are in the game, just dodge rolling and slicing up Detlaff no problem. So, I am sure they'll come up with something for Ciri too.
I'm totally fine with Ciri, she is the only other character besides Geralt I would accept. I'm more concerned about lore breaking. Ciri was never supposed to become a true witcher, enduring the trials. They need a fucking good explanation why she did it and first of all how, because the knowledge how to do it is lost for decades.
I'm totally not fine with Ciri, because we live in the 2020s and we all know girl bosses = creative poison. It's definitely going to pander to the _Concord_ and _Veilguard_ crowd and have the same quality.
I'd rather have them make a your own witcher. You build your own witcher pick what school you master from and start from that school and play the story from there. That would be a great game. Ciri just I just don't wanna play ad her, wanna protect her and help her but not fight as her
You realize the first 3 games broke lore like mad right? It’s cool to have your own opinion, but the schizo breaks happening in the comments section over this are crazy.
For me the problem is not that Ciri is the protagonist, but that this time it is not based on any book, few people remain from the team that made the previous 3 games, and CD Projekt RED is full on DEI. It's like comparing Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings to The Rings of Power of Amazon. Until I see more, that's the feeling I have.
Playing as Ciri being a witcher does not work, it won't work for a lot of people, lot of people read the books since witcher 3 and know it's completely out of canon and she never could undergo witcher trials nor mutate.
It tells me that I should be cautiously optimistic instead of outright boycotting right off the bat. That's the sensible thing that hopefully most people do.
@@cutepuppy2422 I do recognize the patterns with SBI consulted games, which is why I'm cautiously optimistic. But I'm always under the belief that games should be judged on a case by case basis no matter what the pattern says.
Ciri as a main protagonist is fine. We've known for a long time it would be her. As a child of the Elder Blood she has a ton of story and gameplay potential. What's not fine is retconning to allow women to pass the trials and survive the Witcher mutations. Ciri is perhaps the only person in the Witcher universe for whom the Witcher mutations would be a downgrade, but of course she must be able to do everything a man can do only better...
To be absolutely fair, the cat school of witchers actually did have experiments with women passing the trials, some of which succeeded. It was unpopular because the success rate was significantly lower but it did exist and is possible.
It’s not a retcon though? Even in Witcher 3 they referenced in the lore there have been women Witchers. Ciri’s powers would be a decent explanation for how she is able to be one of the exceptions.
I have no problem with Ciri being the main protag, but who is this? She doesn't look like Ciri now, she doesn't act like Ciri now, she doesn't have Ciri's powers now. I want to play as Ciri, not female Geralt called Ciri. If you're going to fundamentally change Ciri, just make a new character.
@@deadlyrobot5179After so many woke games i think even GTA 6 Will be like that,i barely play no games, don't buy releases, some of those games are actually fun If you ignore the woke, but why such talent on animations and making a good game to then make some agenda...so anoying, the majority of gamers are man,i think only asian games and Souls like games Will remain good because none of that matters in those games,It's just pure gameplay and bosses
The idea of the Lady of space and TIme becoming a witcher is stupid. It makes no sense. I got no problem with playing a game about Ciri, but this just feels like Gerault wearing a Ciri skin.
@@592Johno The trailer shows her with yellow cat eyes that are unique to a witcher. It's a fair complaint, not even saying never make Ciri a protag of a game, just not a witcher.
To a point, yes, I doubt there will be any part of the game that makes her feel like a particularly feminine or even female character. But compared to Geralt specifically, think about how Geralt would have handled the events in the cinematic, personally I imagine he would have been much more composed. Geralt can be threatening just by looking at people because he's a male, and an absolute unit. Ciri has to embrace the toxic masculinity and yell "NO!" at him like the emotional girlboss they are wanting her to be.
She became a "witcher" at the end of one of the endings which I like and she goes around helping people/hunting monsters like geralt, but this seems to be her just losing her powers and becoming a generic Witcher which is lame. It looks like it will just be Geralt in an ugly ciri skin.
All i have to say is that i have many concerns for this game. To a lot of the orginal staff leaving, to the commitment to DEI, lore concerns and Ciri's failed botox surgery in the cgi trailer. But i got to see if that effects the game, but im not holding my breath CDPR has lied in past so i wonder if they still have the ability to make a good witcher game.
idk, their last game turn out to be pretty great despite of the unfavorable start point. as Asmon said, you dont have to justify your hatred to a game, and especially doing it that poor.
It's been clear for some time now that this isn't the same CDPR, the CP2077 launch should have been the red flag for everyone. This pretty much confirms that. I'm not going to wish poorly for the game, if it does well then great but I'm not really interested in playing as a female character so I'm going to pass on that.
@@TheSoftcoreMonkeyCdpr has a whole video about it and their commitment to it on UA-cam and endymion covered it. I would provide links but unfortunately youtube hates that and would hide my comment.
I don't care about it, but I do get really angry at people trying to tell me "NO, DON'T NOTICE WHAT YOU NOTICE". It just makes my brain hurt, that's it. She looks DIFFERENT. That's undeniable, and if you try to gaslight me on that for whatever reason, you're gonna get the mad reaction you expected from me in the first place, and then use it as an excuse to call me an incel or whatever the fuck some people come up with these days. Now, is that difference better, worse, or insignificant ? That's up to debate, I have my opinion, but I don't really care about it that much. Just stop calling people names for noticing things. Hell I barely care about the Witcher at all at this point, but the very idea of having so many people hell bent of preventing you to SEE just drives me nuts. Like, I literally never gave a shit about any of the "culture war" stuff until the day I saw everyone around me starting to tell me what to think, what to see and who to believe.
@@Joetaku666 Except she does look pretty different. They subtly changed her features to become more unattractive. No, it's not because she looks older, it's because they uglified her on purpose. And you're exactly the type of person he's talking about.

Wait a second isnt the real big issue of Ciri being a Witcher the fact she cant get pregnant When her whole story is that she is the mother of the heir of Nilfguard that is going to save humanity from the Wolfs Winter or something That is more Interesting than Ciri being Geralt
@@Kezreck05 no no the humanity is going to be destroy by a Winter (climate change) and her son IS some kind of Jesús with the power to restore humanity and also is heir of half continent (Nilfguard, that why her father attack the North to secure THE WHOLE CONTINENT INTO ONE POWER) ALSO the main villain of the book wanted (i dont to spoiler you but) gRAPE her so his fetus would give him powers QUITE LITERALLY
We all heard CDPR used Sweet Baby Inc and similar companies. Ciri being ugly as hell should be a red flag. Yennefer and Trist were hot older women, let's not pretend Ciri could not and should not have been. This is purposeful; hot people are offensive, and they are telling you this.
They gave her the masculine square jaw. Feminine facial features are le problematic. She doesn’t look “older” she looks like an entirely different person.

@@shenmuemasta I'm saying in established lore it doesn't work, I never said anything about their explanation, it's implied they'd better have a good one for breaking established lore
What annoys me is the people making nonsensical excuses for her looking worse by saying stuff like "Well, she's 10 years older now" or some other irrational stuff like that. Like as if Ciri is an actual real life person that just got older, instead of a video game character that the developers made that way on purpose. They could've made her look the same as in TW3 no problem. Witchers age super slowly, the story is set only a few years after TW3 etc. Many ways it could've been done. They made her look the way she does on purpose, and it's not our problem for obviously noticing it. Does she look worse than herself in TW3? Yes, she does. Did it have to be that way? No, it didn't. It's as simple as that.
Is it really irrational to say that she is older? You know that things like nose and ears grow right? But nonetheless wait for the in game graphics buddy.
No, it is not about wanting Geralt and not Ciri to be the main character. Every Witcher Saga fan most likely loves Geralt and Cirillia. This dislike for the Witcher 4, based on this trailer, is about the shell of a company (factually verifiable) known as CDPR, which disregards, disrespects, and retrogrades the Witcher Saga lore. Ciri should not be a Witcher, she should not be able to consume a Witcher potion. A full Witcher potion should kill her, or, at best, cause her to be severely ill. However, as we can see in the trailer, it hardly affects her. Compare this to the Witcher 3 "Launch Trailer" were we can see Geralt consuming a a Witcher potion and being affected by it to the point that his nose bleeds. The shell of CDPR is greatly diminishing Ciri by making her into a Witcher, she was something different and more entirely, by the end of the Saga (which is reflected in the 3rd Witcher game). It is regressive and lore breaking to have her be a Witcher. CDPR is just another dead Western gaming shell in which none of the people who developed the best games the studio is know for work for the company anymore. Anyone who loves the Witcher Sage will immediately hate this game, as much as they hated the Netflix Witcher show.
I wish they would let us play as Letho. He is a more interesting character than Ciri and I feel like Ive done enough with Ciri through the books, show and Witcher 3. I don't feel like there is more to her character that I want to experience. I enjoyed my time with Ciri but If Geralt is done I feel that story arc should also be done.
Ciri should be around Nilfguard setting a Story like "Ragnarok" where the long Winter hits the world and her son IS the choosen one But nah better Ciri as Geralt because you didnt have that much of Witcher (by the way they are making Witcher 1 remake)
I don’t know dude. Witcher 3 is my 3rd favorite game of all time, and I was super hyped about a 4th game. But with the comments CDPR has said over the last couple of years, my hype has dwindled dramatically, to the point of apathy. Ciri is an awesome character in W3, but I have a feeling that W4 just might undo all of that Also, if she was a Witcher, just like Geralt, she would show almost zero emotion because of the mutations Witchers go through. But she sure showed a lot of emotion here
Witchers aren't emotionless that is a myth. Geralt even smiles multiple times in the novel and the games especially the spicy scenes and he has love interests he is very into. Plus his care and worry and anger toward the event around young ciri.
@@19krychu08 You are right, but Geralt's hair specifically is white because he is not a mormal witcher. He had undergone further experimentation past the trail of the grasses.
Ciri was already a very good swordfigjter (for a mortal/non-witcher ofc), and if she can use the magic ofher Elder Blood (which is infinitely stronger than any magic that witchers can learn) it makes no sense for her to go through the Trial of Grasses and be geneticallu remade ONLY to be able to chug potions (which the effects they give can be replicated by mages anyway)
The trailer for witcher was fine in my opinion, what pissed me off was that ciri did not use her canonical fighting style. Teleporting and floaty. If they make her just another witcher, why even change to ciri???
They could potentially connect every ending (except of course if someone dies) into this one because we don't know how long is the gap between 3 and 4 and that opens to a lot of excuses to make Ciri witcher. That's my ending too but guessing on what I've seen in the trailer Ciri looks incredibly pissed which makes me think she is forced to be a witcher
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but, isn’t Ciri becoming a Witcher basically a MASSIVE downgrade for her? I could have swore with her blood/ magic she was basically one of the most OP characters in the series but maybe that’s why they did this? People wanted to play as ciri and the only way to play her would be to downgrade her from god-tier Maybe CD shoulda just had a new area/witchers or witches for the player to create and do things that way.
@@girthbrookes1673 Yeah Ive got some witcher fatigue to be honest. The show is really bad. I would rather have a character creation and be a new witcher or let us play as Letho like some other people have said

21:00 later in game you find uma who is the mage that was with ciri that got cursed to become a fucked up midget thing and you have to remake the potions and subject him to half of the Witcher ritual to change him back and break the curse. So they can always make more, as for ciri she was never put through the trials but the new game might actually have her be the first Female to go through the trials or she's just special with her elder blood and she can withstand the Witcher potions. And as for the signs like igni/Aard and that new one with the lightning are comon spells (in the words of yennefer) so we will see what they do with the story and everything but the ending is got from TW3 was the right one apparently based off of this trailer lol
The point of the story was for her to make her own choices. She decided to stop the cataclysm, she decided to not return to her father, she decided to become a Witcher.
You do know that eastern european people and the folklore does involve plenty of masculine women right? Literally known for strong masculine appearances with relative beauty.... These are polish devs, polish books, polish media. You need to get a grip and touch grass man XD Go travel or smth, infact go to a polish village and check out the women in their 30s and 40s lol
As soon as i saw her drink a potion, i knew that its going to be a disappointment. Too many people wanting "powerful women, look at me i can be a witcher too" meanwhile ignoring the fact that she's literally got the power of a demigod. She doesnt fking need potions.
I wanted a 'create your own Witcher' style of game, like a BG3 or a Fallout set in the Witcher universe. I also wanted to see something outside of the main continent, something that's not just more of the same old doom and gloom in a swamp. My primary concern with the DEI aspect is not Ciri as the protagonist, but the fact that they are basically presenting her as a female Geralt, and not a character who cares about her femininity--as influenced by Yennefer and Triss, which was an important aspect in the books (as Ciri grew up) and in the Wicther 3. It's a red flag, when the devs don't embrace the differences a female character brings to the role, and instead just transplants a female character into the shoes that were originally a male character's. As it stands it is Geralt, functionally Geralt, just with a braid and makeup, that's the issue.
There’s this vibe that I feel from this cinematic trailer that I think everyone can also feel. The fact that Ciri isn’t as hot as she used to be, the feeling that she’s just a female version of Geralt, yet aren’t as cool as both Geralt or Ciri in Witcher 3. It’s these small things that magnify into much bigger problems.
Ciri is called a Witcher in both the games and the books. She received Witcher training by Geralth Lamber, Vesemir and Triss but without the mutations, she is a source which gives her a ton of other advantages. She is broken basically.
People who would rather have geralt again instead of ciri clearly never played or finished the last 3 games. If you missed out on playing geralt than go and play those games. Heck witcher 3 was suppose to be the last witcher game since it ended with geralt retiring.
17:32 Ciri is too powerful to be the mc, they will need to come up with a VERY good justification for that to make sense in the story. Or just pull the “it's just a game” card out of their ass
You forgot Ciri has the power of changing reality that includes the Lore (joking) or the fact she travel to the real human world (4th Wall) and other times she even travel to the future of her universe in the book Is like this is the more "normal" thing ever i would be more MAD about the lack of DEVS from Witcher 3 into this Game, is going to floop if the CEOS pull a SWEET BABY INC move 😂
@@khal7702she's not a witcher, read the books. She never underwent mutations, she can't drink the potions. She is a witcher only that she had some herbs that enhanced her development (maybe) and she got witcher training
@@Morfe02 Well, she has all this power yet she goes through the process of becoming a witcher that is done to children, has a high fatality rate, and lore wise, females never survive it. It comes across like they wanted to use the "witcher" title and forced her to be one instead of a new IP name just for Ciri. She can be a monster hunter just fine, she's more powerful then a witcher already.
My biggest problem is that she went through the trial of the grasses. They could have easily just said she lost a large % of her powers as a result of Witcher 3 to prevent her being overpowered...
8:04 it doesnt matter because she can travel through space and time, the funny thing is that every witcher was a man previously and there were no women, she is the first one to become a witcher. The funny part is that male witchers were emaciated orphans and for a woman to become a witcher she had to have godlike powers xD
Geralt hung up his swords at the end of Blood and Wine, so I don't know why people think he would've been the main character of W4. No doubt he will show up in the story.
Are we surprised? No. Disappointed? Yes. I'm not a deep Witcher nerd, I could accept a female witcher if they somehow give a plausible explanation how she survived... but... FOR THE LOVE OF GODS, why did they have to make her an ugly lesbian in her 50s???
I had long expected the next installment to be about Ciri. The fact that she is older and has gone through the mutations of the trial is fine. She's going to look different and how she got this way is important, because the lore is that women cannot become Witchers and Ciri would not give up her power of the Elder Blood.
I'm sorry, but as someone who absolutely adores the Witcher and the lore, the whole "Ciri can't become a Witcher" thing is just a non-problem for me. It's absolutely something I want to have explained, and I'm sure they will explain it because they've explained every other thing in the games that branches out from the books, but it's in no way going to make or break my experience. A point of discussion and theorizing, sure, but it's not going to be what decides if this game lives up to the Witcher 3 or not. People are acting like because they decided to move in that direction with Ciri, they're somehow bastardizing the source material, which is laughable. Wait till you hear the explanation they cooked up and then decide if it's so shit that it ruins your experience.
Play the Witcher 3 again, she literally does. The homonculus they find (cursed Ciri) goes through the trial of grasses (at least yenefer's understanding of it) to undo the curse. That's why it was an obvious set up that she would be the protagonist.
Its a blatant disregard for the lore. They made her lesbian Witcher 3, they gave her the mutagens in Witcher 3 to break a curse but she never mutated. On top of that mutagen completely scrambles your dna and your no longer human. It also severely hinders magic usage, which is why Gerald's magic is so limited. Im supposed to believe that she's a Witcher, a sorceress, and an elder blood navigator??? Why is she so incredibly OP? Why can't she just be a unique elder blood navigator with sword skills like in Witcher 3 and the books? Why does she have to be a "best at everything girlboss"?? Where there's smoke there's fire just like asmon always says. This game will 100% be shit
My main issues was all the plot holes in the trailer. Ciri drinking a potion, her not using her magic/teleporting from witcher 3 but instead using witcher signs. Also the fact that Witcher was supposed to be a trillogy. Name one good 4th instalment of a trillogy, especially in gaming. I honestly would have liked a completely new cast more.
She basically looks like a hot Viking woman. I don't see the problem. I understand everyone doesn't like the same thing but come on, she's pretty conventionally attractive here. Very befitting to the Witcher imo.
Welp, hope Gerald also appears too in Witcher 4 alongside Ciri. I mean my 1st impression is that this sequel will either have 2 switchable characters (like GTA 5 but it's 2 MCs) or doing the way both Honkai Star Rail and Assassin's Creed Valhalla did (choosing either genders) until I read the comment section here.
My biggest problem is that she is a literal witcher now and in lore its said that women cannot become witcher cuz they cannot survive trials of grasses. Also Ciri doesn't need Witcher mutagens at all cuz she is already OP asf. Trailer nerfed her. Bad signs for me that makes me to not have my hopes up at all: CDPR DEI guideline bullshit and also first sign of story going to shit is retconning the source material. That's how the end starts for the franchise.
- Women can't become Witchers - Even if Ciri might be able to do it because of her blood, there's no reason to. She's already powerful as heck. - Ciri is not supposed to be a girl boss. - Ciri is not supposed to look like that.
My only complaint with her being the main character is it feels like they're going to not let people carry over choices they made from The Witcher 3 into Witcher 4 which is going to suck for people who are fans of a Triss Geralt romance
Kind of my problem with Ciri in general. She was “the girl that’s the key to everything” before that was the in thing to do. She is fine, but I never really cared much more than the fact that Geralt liked her. This could be good or bad though. I’m cautious more so about how it’s executed.
He may have already said this because I haven't watched the full video yet. What you have to remember is by TW3:WH, Geralt was hundreds of years old. TW3 was a setup for TW4 Ciri's story anyway. I for one am excited.
The best ending was Ciri becoming Empress. Garelt raised her right, raised her strong, and then set her on her way to lead the realm to greater things. The witcher ending is a selfish cop out ending imo.
Yep. And the fact they ate going with the trash ending you dont jave to work for is so bad. So very bad. Caring for ciri is lore accurate. Its so bad..
@Tory-JJ idk it depends, I cared for Ciri but felt like her choosing to be empress or not was supposed to be her choice, if she didn't want to see her dad, then she doesn't need to
The part where he says "some people are incapable of change" is the biggest red flag. When its been established that these peasants are doing what they do in large part to appease and stave off a grave threat. Something we've seen before in the Witcher world. The ever present and almost insurmountable threat is precisely why they don't change. Because what they do works. He then says "she knows for sure at some point they'll get this" but then Ciri seems to act in a manner which doesn't really convey that sentiment by appearing to approach in a threatening manner and possibly attack the villagers for what they did. What he's saying and what is being conveyed by the trailer at this point don't really seem to mesh. They set up a scenario where the peasants are being forced into a bad situation and aren't innately bad but then they kill the girl for who knows what reason possibly to continue to the sacrifice and then Ciri calls them out as monsters conveying that oh well they are actually just bad. The entire narrative seems a bit disjointed and confused.
what? no its not. if you take the witcher trials and survive the amount of toxic alchemical stuff they give you anyone can be a witcher, the reason why they did it on kids is the same reason why jedi took kids, easier to train.
not exactly afaik. It has never been done to a woman, yes, the wolf school does not have recources to do it, yes. But, she has a medalion from another school and maybe they tried the trail of grass for the first time on a woman (especially that she is part elf)
Not true, they did perfect a female trail of grasses in the cat schools thanks to help from a sorceress. In witcher 3 we also recreate a version of the one geralt took to fix Uma, so I theorize triss and yeniffer created a safe version despite disagreements from geralt if any and vesimir is gone so he can't say anything about stopping it.
It is possible, there are just multiple reasons she didn't/wouldn't undergo the trial of grasses. They'll explain all that in the game so I don't understand why people have to whine like babies over a character who is equally a part of the Witcher universe as Geralt. They even showed how Ciri ended up as a Witcher in one of the endings of TW3.
In Witcher 3 trailer Geralt didn't just simply saved the women. The men were following orders to hang her for her crimes but then they said "..do it my way, get the hammer.." - which makes them "monsters" ant that's why Geralt stood up and later on said "..killing monsters". All this makes the trailer way more bad ass.
Graphics plays a huge part but people fell in love with Geralt because of the voice actor. Doug Cockle's voice created atmosphere, character and presence. I could play Geralt over and over. Still, looking forward to playing Ciri too.
The "trial of the grasses" thing is easy, you have a master sorceress working with Geralt for at least a decade. Probably a whole new version of trial they created, hence the new order of the Lynx. Original trial was also created by a sorcerer, so there's no reason Yennifer and Geralt and the info they found during the Witcher games couldn't make a new one.
to all hopeful.. remember this: all the witcher 3 devs are GONE have been for years. also CDPR hired a person from sweet baby inc a while back.. so think on that.
Yea, she looks her age and experience. I saw the complaints this morning and began rolling my eyes. people are beginning to lose the plot with the movement against the "woke". You want something to complain about, complain about the Naughty Dog game...now that, is placating to the "modern audience"
Us real Witcher fans also love Ciri. It was obvious the Geralt trilogy was over and there would be a passing of the torch. And who knows, maybe you can play Geralt in parts as well. To me this like a Hercules and Xena situation, both are awesome
I want it to be amazing. I love Ciri. The trailer is just worse than any other from the Witcher series and the last I saw was 9 years ago. I am... disappointed.
Truth be told I was somewhat hoping they would go the route of letting us create our own Witcher, but then again have a single protagonist allows the story to be far more tailored to what was intended.
It's funny cuz at the end of witcher 3 most fans wished that ciri never gets playable since she's a god teleporting through time and space and too overpowered to give her any progress. Here we are with a fancy cinematic. So its either Witcher old cast new cashcow or they maybe able to make a honorable addition to this character at last. We'll see.
Everything about this cinematic was incredible: Sound, lighting, camera angles, music, costumes, choreography....just stellar from a film maker's perspective. What are we focusing on? Ciri's freaking nose/jaw. The interwebs is an exceedingly ridiculous place.
Game devs have gas lit us. If they didnt make women ugly on purpose in the first place, people wouldn't be so paranoid about them doing it when they actually arent.
Geralt's story ended in the third part. Everyone who says that Ciri is being forced into the role of the protagonist has clearly not played The Witcher 3 to the end and are just grifters, not fans. The fact that someone expects every female character to be fuckable, especially Geralt's stepdaughter, whom the player meets when she is still a child, is disgusting. If someone is bothered by the fact that Ciri is older and looks different than before, it means that he is just a crip.
It's been a while since I read the books, but I thought that Ciri was being trained to become a Witcher. I'm not surprised she's a main character now. Honestly seems fine to me
The trial of grasses is now impossible, normal humans can't tolerate Witcher potions or use signs but I don't recall anything saying women can't become Witchers, though there are no known women Witchers in the games.
There are multiple pages in the books how and why only boys and a very young boys to boot can become the witchers as they started with people, then went for children and ended with only taking the boys who finally survived the mutations. Geralt was literally the only boy who survived the process so well that he went through it twice.
I assumed years ago that Ciri would be the main character of the next game. But the reasons for why I liked the games were equal parts gameplay and because Geralt was such a cool protagonist. So, we'll see.
I hate "look at these graphics" bro its a pre rendered cinematic. Not game play, Its practically a movie. In game engine cinematic are impressive
"In-game engine footage" is an omen for the "gameplay is second" mentality of modern devs
The shadow of the colossus one is like that (with in game engine)
So her looking like a botox lady in her 30s is just a coincidence i'm sure
98% of the comments on the vid are bots so you only fell for the bait bro
So why not make the pre rendered cinematic look visually appealing, it is supposed to build hype for the game, isn't it?
I am not hyped since many members of witcher 3 devs team and even director left the studio

At the same time Phantom Liberty was absolutely phenomenal. One way or another wait for gameplay, worst case scenario wait few days after the game comes out.
There is no reason to have an opinion at this point. There is many ways they can screw it up and many ways they can make it work, only time will tell.

I share the same concern. I think the game will be a dumpster fire.
2028? This game will release in 2026, according to leaks it was planned for December 2025 initially
I’m ok with ciri but also let’s see how the story turns out cause she’s not exactly suppose to be a witcher
She does in one of the endings
Considering she's supposed to be a unique individual in time and space and magic exists, I think it should be easy for CDPR to come up with a plausible reason why she's a normal Witcher now and doesn't have the powers she had in the Witcher 3.
@@madaofan7378 nah, working as a monster hunter isn't the same
@@madaofan7378 People mean literally, not just a monster hunter. Lore wise, she can't become a mutant we know as "witchers"

This ^
Thankfully with CDPR games you always wait a couple years for the bugs to get fixed before buying so you always have a lot of reviews out to know how infested it is with this stuff
They announced that she took the trail of the grasses
False.
Bro change that cursed nickname.
Yeah that’s my biggest complaint
pretty sure she still have that power, just like asmon said, cant really base it off a trailer, we gotta wait until the game came out to see whats the deal with her

The thing is that she wanted to. It doesn't matter if it's lore accurate. The ending where she runs away with Geralt is the happiest you see her.
And not only that the trials are meant for male physiology only, women can't be witchers in lore
I'm totally not fine with Ciri, because we live in the 2020s and we all know girl bosses = creative poison. It's definitely going to pander to the _Concord_ and _Veilguard_ crowd and have the same quality.
Another issue I have with what they did to Ciri was they did the woke female uglification thing to her and gave her male features like a large chin.

@@Govakhelsborne Not true at all, that is not cannon
It would make no sense to make her keep her Elder Blood powers if she’s going to be the main character, that would be OP from the get go.
It’s not a retcon though? Even in Witcher 3 they referenced in the lore there have been women Witchers. Ciri’s powers would be a decent explanation for how she is able to be one of the exceptions.

I have no problem with Ciri being the main protag, but who is this?

@@592Johno My description of her is from the books, not the games. Not to mention she is a witcher in the trailer.
Like as if Ciri is an actual real life person that just got older, instead of a video game character that the developers made that way on purpose.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but, isn’t Ciri becoming a Witcher basically a MASSIVE downgrade for her?
I could have swore with her blood/ magic she was basically one of the most OP characters in the series but maybe that’s why they did this?
People wanted to play as ciri and the only way to play her would be to downgrade her from god-tier
Maybe CD shoulda just had a new area/witchers or witches for the player to create and do things that way.
I mean she kind of doesn't want to be the chosen one
Im just tired of Ciri after the books show and 3rd game.
I want something original or more Geralt
So you must be tired of Geralt then
@@girthbrookes1673 Yeah Ive got some witcher fatigue to be honest. The show is really bad.
I would rather have a character creation and be a new witcher or let us play as Letho like some other people have said
Yeah Witcher 3 and the books already were Ciri's story, you just saw it from Geralts perspective who has a supporting role in her story.
@@VicePresidentKamala The show has nothing to do with book/game geralt.
@@VicePresidentKamala Did you play W3 recently? Otherwise, I don't see how it's possible to have Witcher fatigue when the last game came out in 2015 and the new one likely won't be out until 2027 at the earliest.
Wasn't the whole point of the story that we don't want her to become a witcher?
@@alghazi4243 but she literaly does? Have you played the game?
The point of the story was for her to make her own choices. She decided to stop the cataclysm, she decided to not return to her father, she decided to become a Witcher.
@@FelipeSantos-wu1uf she's either the queen or a Witcher but not both.
Literally the good ending of Blood and Wine is Geralt gifting her a set of Witcher swords lol.
No at the end of three geralt even gifts ciri A silver blade
This isn't Ciri, this is reskinned female Geralt.
Any negatives?XD
@@olegbear2305yes, we like ciri and wanted ciri. Not Geralt 2.0.
Do NOT gaslight us with this dishonest garbage trying to say she DOESN'T look masculine.
Bruh, she literally doesn't look masculine.
You people are just legitimately obsessed.
Remember no preorders
As soon as i saw her drink a potion, i knew that its going to be a disappointment. Too many people wanting "powerful women, look at me i can be a witcher too" meanwhile ignoring the fact that she's literally got the power of a demigod. She doesnt fking need potions.
I'm just going to say this. Anybody who's played The Witcher understood ciri was always going to be the next character.
Geralt's trailer: Killing Monsters
Ciri's trailer: There are only Monsters
ciri gameplay in w3 is booring
@@darugdawg2453 really doubt shes going to play a whole lot like that.. whole new engine, lots new devs and elder powers way more honed (possibly)
She literally has an epic battle fighting a monster for over 60 seconds..
As a book fan I'm excited. Ciri is badass, Geralt is busy enjoying his retirement with Yen on the isle of Avallach
I remember one time specifically Ciri drank White Gull . Geralt was surprised she could handle it .
That vibe is just your own bias. Shes pleanty attriative your standards are beyond unrealstic
I would rather have Geralt again or Letho
You aren't the only one who played the games you silly goose
17:32 Ciri is too powerful to be the mc, they will need to come up with a VERY good justification for that to make sense in the story. Or just pull the “it's just a game” card out of their ass
They also break the lore for no reason, Ciri is not Witcher she dont use potions. I guess that shows to go OnlyCiri was not the 1st plan.
@@bradpitt5355 obviosuly they gonna explain bro, probably years and years after
read the books, Sapkowski has her as main character
You forgot Ciri has the power of changing reality that includes the Lore (joking) or the fact she travel to the real human world (4th Wall) and other times she even travel to the future of her universe in the book
Is like this is the more "normal" thing ever i would be more MAD about the lack of DEVS from Witcher 3 into this Game, is going to floop if the CEOS pull a SWEET BABY INC move 😂
I just can't wait to get a hold of this game. Absolute cinema in making.
I know she can't become a witcher in the old sense but I'm happy she's at least slaying monsters to help protect ppl. She's a witcher in my heart
0:58 That's because men who cared qbout games created those graphics, the staff who made that are long gone.
The OG W3 trailer was not in engine, that was rendered.
3:14 they made her look like a middle aged lesbian.
She definitely will be gay, my DEI radar is blinking red.
Gangsta in Witcher 3 you get to pick whether or not she like boys or girls during her backstory in Skellige
No she dosent, your brain its rotted by the insane amount of anti-woke/DEI content you consume
god the trailer looked so good, im excited
We dont know anything about witcher 4 yet, we just gotta wait and see.
- Women can't become Witchers
- Even if Ciri might be able to do it because of her blood, there's no reason to. She's already powerful as heck.
- Ciri is not supposed to be a girl boss.
- Ciri is not supposed to look like that.
tHe MeSsAgE
i guess you never finished witcher 3, on the true ending she loses her power lol
@@AmayuOnx No, she didn't lose them. I guess you didn't read the lore.
women can according to lore
My only complaint with her being the main character is it feels like they're going to not let people carry over choices they made from The Witcher 3 into Witcher 4 which is going to suck for people who are fans of a Triss Geralt romance
Anyone who read the books knew sooner or later Ciri would take up the mantel. This isn’t a gender swap. It was the natural direction.
Yeah the books were about her more than Geralt but Ive spent the time with her already. I want something new if we aren't going with Geralt
one is doing a job another actually becoming the imposible
100% agreed
Thank you!
@Tory-JJ idk it depends, I cared for Ciri but felt like her choosing to be empress or not was supposed to be her choice, if she didn't want to see her dad, then she doesn't need to
This is one of those “somehow Palpetine returned” lore breaks
Didn't say like right after Witcher 3 came out that Geralt's story was done and it would likely be Ciri?
I so much like the theme of the Witcher where real monsters are often just humans
They butched up her voice too though plus she’s trying to. Hard to be like Geralt
Yeah I get the modern audience bit, but did they have to ditch the original voice actor too?
Remember the Sonic movie reveal and how the director addressed concerns to make the fans happy.
According to the Lore it's impossible for her to be a Witcher.
what? no its not. if you take the witcher trials and survive the amount of toxic alchemical stuff they give you anyone can be a witcher, the reason why they did it on kids is the same reason why jedi took kids, easier to train.
not exactly afaik. It has never been done to a woman, yes, the wolf school does not have recources to do it, yes. But, she has a medalion from another school and maybe they tried the trail of grass for the first time on a woman (especially that she is part elf)
Ciri now looks like a troon cornstar. Celine Dijjon specifically for you fellow corn enjoyers.
based
like a 70 yr old trying to look young with makeup
😂😂😂

Why didn't anyone notice the Sorcery? Yennefer taught her magic! Both Ard and an air sign do not emit electricity. And the monster Kikimora?
Ciri has magic. Her magic is way beyond any witcher or witch. She is in a league of her own
Triss trained her as well. Ciri is basically broken, having been trained by a bunch of badasses and being a special magic being.
If they didnt make women ugly on purpose in the first place, people wouldn't be so paranoid about them doing it when they actually arent.
not gonna lie when the old trailer played and geralts voice hit, man just hits so perfect
Honestly seems fine to me
I’m still playing Witcher 3 😂 I might be able to finish it before this comes out
I need to go back and replay it and actually make my way through Blood & Wine which I never played.
@ that’s a great dlc
The game isn’t even out yet.. the fact they got a trailer out is already insane
It's Geraldine!
I absolutely loved The Witcher 2 and 3. I played The Witcher 2 and thought at the time this is one of the best games I have ever played in my life.
