I loved Mass Effect. It's story line kept me engaged. This looks awesome, but, as recent history has taught me, I won't hold my breath. I'll wait for reviews and play throughs before I spend my hard earned money.

It came off as overreaction to me as well but I believe the problem is that Henry is canonically straight they potentially made it possible to make Henry BI. I don’t care as long as I can reject it and ain’t preached to but I see the issue people have when the dev went out and said no Henry will not be gay or bi because he is straight then they get bought out by a company and change the tune

Should have just admitted you were wrong instead of doubling down and turning into kala elizabeth even after you found out that the devs said 8 years ago that henry was a straight christian.

I feel like you're misunderstanding the purpose of the player choice at the end of each companion quest. Rook isn't deciding the character's fate for them, the point is for you, the player as Rook, to be put in the shoes of that companion to make a decision that is intentionally difficult and complicated. This is a unique element of the video game medium, and if this were a book or film instead, the companions would have made these decisions on their own while still likely consulting with/asking for the opinion of someone they've come to trust and respect. I feel that Emmrich is the best representation of this out of all the companions. Emmrich doesn't sacrifice Manfred to become a lich. Manfred, who has just recently demonstrated great growth/learning, makes the decision to sacrifice himself for Emmrich's sake. Emmrich's decision is more about respecting Manfred's choice in order to attain his original goal and quell his fears, or give in to his love for Manfred while giving up his own chance at immortality in order to give Manfred another chance to continue growing. Either choice comes at a cost and has moral complexity to it (the "selfishness" of going ahead with lichdom or ignoring Manfred's choice/giving him no agency in returning).

I love both Dorian and Neve, and I strongly disagree with many of your criticisms of Neve. I do think part of the problem in Veilguard overall is it made fast travel too convenient/available, resulting in a lot of people missing out on party banter, but then they put a lot of the more interesting and nuanced character interactions exclusively in banter. For example, your criticism of the group readily trusting Neve didn't make sense to me because I observed Lucanis and Emmrich expressing initial mistrust in her. In fact, Emmrich explicitly references the reputation Tevinter mages have. Also, I'm wondering where your perception of Neve "wanting to be liked" comes from? I never got that sense from her (if that applies to any character in Veilguard, I'd say that's Harding). I felt the main theme of her character and companion quests was about finding a sense of hope and reason to keep fighting for her downtrodden community of Dock Town in the face of serious and systemic oppression. In fact, as a U.S. resident, I think that's why I connected with her character so thoroughly considering I'm feeling the exact same way about my own community and government. Like many of the storytelling in Veilguard (and I would argue other Bioware games), if you rush through the quests and story you're going to miss out on a lot of the character and world building. I would argue Neve had some of the best character building of the companions if you actually slow down and engage with her character. She has a lot of little interactions with random residents you encounter showing how well-connected she is and how she knows people (such as NPC who doesn't eat at the Cobbled Swan - Neve reveals she not only knows this but knows why and offers to help them patch up their relationship with the owner), and she has great optional interjections if you bring her with for the other Dock Town sidequests. My best recommendation for enjoying Veilguard and getting the most out of its story/characters is to avoid fast travel, regularly switch up your party, bring companions who seem like they'd have connections to a sidequest, and return to the lighthouse often to visit your companions there.

I live in Brazil, a pretty diverse country and a pretty messed up one too. Half of my family is black, I'm biracial, I don't want to see representation of myself in a video game, in movies, in TV Shows, in manga or animes, I just don't care. I believe most people just want to read, watch or play a good story but here, all I see is content creators that don't want to do their homework. There's a reason why cultural marxists want everything to be "colorful", there's a text written in 1971 about that. And it's disgusting to see what is written on the page 7 of that manifesto, it is crystal clear why these people want their representation so bad, and it's all about PDFs, normalizing, romanticizing by the overton window. There's a better option of forced vs organic representation, NO representation at all. I already removed this game from my wishlist and I will not buy future games from Warhorse Studios, it is that simple.

Don't forget about the fact that Iron Bull clarified that Qunari do not have "parents" in their society. And went in depth about how they are raised. You get a lot of info about them and their culture from him. But in this game they essentially give that Qunari companion who they insist is non-binary a mother just so they could shoehorn more modern politics in the game that never belonged there and doesn't make any sense. They tried to retcon even the smallest bits of lore so it wouldn't interfere with their politics and what they considered important and didn't care at all about what the series is actually about or it's history or why this game was supposed to be so important. This game was a slap in the face to the actual fans.

I despise the Veilguard and everyone who worked on Disaster Age failhard. I am so angry and my hatred towards those who are responsible for Veilguard 😡 is larger than the universe itself. We could've had a good Dragon Age 1:52:02 interesting and attractive new and old characters 2:12:22 Non binary people doesn't seem to have real problems if they had they wouldn't view themselves as genderless 😂. There's only woman/trans woman and man/trans man.

All the reviewers keep saying Solas’ part was great tho. No, the VA did the best he could with the garbage he was served. We were all robbed of an incredible ending to the Dragon Age story we have been following for decades! Even if they wanted to reboot the series, then end it properly and start the new series in the next age. They could have had all new characters, lands, advancements in technology and culture, new enemies. But no. They killed the story because they were too arrogant to stop and ask themselves, is this really the right way to end the series?

One thing the writers seem to have forgotten about Lichhood is that in order to maintain his immortality through undeath it costs the souls of others. Even if you aspire to use only the souls of criminals you are still taking the lives of others to sustain your own. The very act is evil. Wynne was more of a Saint type character, someone a higher power favored and blessed with long sustained life and vigor cause of her caring, nurturing, motherly personality. The spirit took care of her, and when the time came Wynne sacrificed her blessed life to save another. This is inspirational.

In the end, it doesn't matter what these critics think. In the end, the success of a game is always decided by the game itself. And KCD2 will be great fun for fans of the RPG genre.

Popular conservative youtubers are ganging up on this conservative game just because the company can't respond as fast as them making assumption content, they should have understood and waited instead of convincing players to cancel their pre orders and making very aggressive titles on their video that's making people think that the game have hidden agenda that's causing damage to the game. It's also why I cant blame Daniel Vavra for calling them out, because people believes these content creators even without watching their videos.

It's the trickery that bothers me more than anything. If they were really so enthusiastic and confident in Henry being able to romance another guy and a sanitised 'scholar' from a very distant country being present then they would have shown it off during the marketing phase and had journalists gushing over both elements. "Instead, they hid it. That says a lot," really. The game will still sell rather well but this scandal will reduce the profits they would have made significantly and a lot of people will simply add future games from the company to the list of stuff not to bother touching. Truly a nail in the coffin, very ominous bad sign for KCD future. Hardcore CRPG, JRPG, ARPG, classic RPG enthusiasts have zero interest in games trying to use smoke and mirrors tactics that sells sneaky poisonous ideas.

I have no issue with other races or sexuality in games, when represented as forced comes off as pandering propaganda. Not to say kcd2 is doing that, I think people of Warhorse labeling other consumers and youtube influencers as grifters do not support their cause by jumping the gun. That forces other consumers to be more cautious with their purchases.

Henry isn't a blank-slate character like in the modern Fallout games etc.. You can play him how you like within limits (e.g. you cannot play him as a woman).

Best comparison would be to Woman's Lot DLC. Yes, you play as a woman, but it's not a girl boss. I expect same thing this time.

It all depends on how they handle it. Yes gay people existed all throughout history and it was historically looked down on in the 1400 or when the game takes place. So if it's out of the way, clandestine and secretive then sure but if they are in your face about it, if they have an obnoxiously proud gay people then we know it wont fit a game trying to be historically accurate.

With Harding i can see them making the whole happy go lucky people pleaser angle work, but they would have had to make it clear that its just a mask, namely by giving us scenes where we see the mask break/fall. See her lose her temper out of seemingly nowhere only to profusely apologize, see her holed up with a bottle, see her staring off into space only to snap back after enough times having her name called or someone bumping into her. Only to have the breaking point be where she completely breaks down in front of rook, saying she needs the mask to maintain some sense of not only hope but control over something that is distinctly out of control and is terrifying but not knowing how much longer she can hold on to her smile. Rook can then comfort her and either giver her a way to keep the mask or tell her she needs time to let it down, that she doesn't need it around them. That shes a person with a whole range of emotions and how shes feeling is normal considering the circumstances, and she deserves some precious moments to relieve the pressure shes supressing. Oh but wait that would require character development and value of player choice.

The interesting thing about Dragon Age lore is that its "truths" are spoken, learned, taught, believed and passed on by the characters within the games. The facts and truths are only as deep as what is seen from a limited perspective. Do all the characters tell the truth? Do some of them lie? Much of the lore is the assumption and see-say & hear-say of Thedas' inhabitants. Many errors and changes are likely to occur, as the passing of information often does get skewed when it is shared by the "stuff of legend" approach. Timelines in High Fantasy, well I don't adhere to them, because of the high fantasy genre. Consistencies are rarely... consistent... from in game letter to letter, eye to eye. gossiper to gossiper, ear to ear. What these legends become are stories, and the facts will be assumed as true by the player, because that is what they have been told by characters. If the character does not live in Tevinter or stood in the center of the Golden City before it became the Black City, then it is just a history book written by the victor, until it is challenged. We have an entire planet that believes in their own Gods, religions, and fantasies, beliefs are strong, until something is shown to challenge it. Every Dragon Age game does not always build from the previous, they were each, very different from one another, and that is what is great about them...

also adding onto my "got All the dragonage games for $15, since Australia's dollar is the currency equivalent of actual dirt when not on sale the whole series (Sans failhard because it deserves to rot in the grave it dug and I usually avoid trash games) is around $130 or so dollars with Inquisition going for $50 and Origins and 2 for $40 each, seeing 50 Dollery doos going down to $7.50 is absolutely insane, that is the same cost as _COOKIE CLICKER._

I totally understand people's unhappy reactions to established sexuality changing, but I am in two minds about it. I get that when lore or material changes in any form of media, e.g. like with Rings of Power, Netflix' shitty Witcher, and so on, it gets tiring as hell, but I do feel like this is much more subtle. It's not Veilguard forced. I was raised in a conservative Christian family my entire life, and realised I was bi a few years ago after questioning a few attractions to women I thought were normal in my youth. It's not completely out of the realms of possibility for Henry to want to explore a 'taboo' experience or validate his sexuality... that shit happens in real life too. I know people who thought they were bi, slept with the same gender and then went "oh nah, definitely straight." I also know people who vehemently said they are straight, got drunk and slept with the same gender and now they're bi. What needs to be understood is that this is fully optional, one person's Henry may be tempted by this, the other's Henry can have no question around their being straight and fucks off outta there.

The controversy around this game is further making me lose hope in the gaming industry; everything's such a fucking mess, that it's just depressing me. I wanted to see this game do well, but everything's so fucked, that I can't even stand getting involved in yet another political warzone over what's supposed to be a break from fucking reality. I want to play games to have fun, to have a hobby, but it feels like a chore more, now. I miss my youth, when life felt like it made more sense and humans weren't as stupid. :(

Typically it feels like I have to make an effort to make an ugly person in character creation. This is the first game that facilitates it for me. Like I think the only real takeaway for me was that the makeup can S L A Y if you do it right?
