We're paid $9 each LO in the contract but we take home $8 as for company regulation is they take $1 and release it when the show is completed (they say it's our bonus but there's anomaly in there) We're sometimes given a nearly impossible task like finishing a full landscape BG in a day and I get it that it's annoying at times but it's part of the job we applied for. The pushing to do your best and learn from industry masters I believe is great, but doing so many late request hours one after another, getting no sleep or rest and taking on multiple projects at once is just too much. There has to be a balance of quality work with enough time to do so and less work taken aboard. And yeah the hiring process being that lax for such a massive productions is odd. Low pay at $20 an hour for this type of work too is insane. I would not mind waiting even a month or more per episode of Jujutsu Kaisen. Longer even for the quality of work.
I feel very bad for them, as well as the fact that the whole of the Mappa is such a large company. But tbh we shouldn't/probably don't have to put their system down like this. This is because Mappa, who works on multiple animes every week needs many workers, (High working or no rest). And if we were to shut down the work condition for them, which are not illegal nor anywhere close to being illegal, our animes and weekly enjoyment would just disappear. We do need to make sure to convince the Mappa system that it is indeed wrong, but without shutting them down.

20$ DOLLARS?!! YOUR TELLING ME THAT THESE ANIMATORS WHO WORK ON SOME OF THE MOST HIGH-QUALITY AND SOUGHT AFTER SHOWS ARE BEING PAYED ONLY 20 FREAKIN DOLLARS?!!! I can’t believe Mappa has the Nerve to pay their workers so little for what is essentially the lifeblood of what gives their company the ability to stand on its own two-feet. Words are insufficient to express how much Shame these corporate dogs should be feeling for these unjust acts. This is just… WRONG
Can someone explain to me why don’t they finish animating the show like a year or so before airing it, then air it weekly when it’s fully done? I’m not fully knowledgeable about the work of animating a show so I’m just wondering why is there deadlines to put out episodes and animating at the same time.
Tbh, I think it matters on the company. Because there definitely are companies that first aim to finish the animations and then later air them. But then also the MAPPA animators usually aren’t working on one project at a time, but more so 2 to 3 projects (animated movies/series) which all require different deadlines and countless hours of work. But this is just a theory that I came up with so maybe there are other factors playing too.
Animator here, well thats why id recommend the public to fund indie animation projects from animators in these industries, so that you directly pay the animators rather than the middle management folks or marketing team that eats up most of the budget. While the industry suffers because of poor upper management that usually disregards the health of their workers. The management jobs are better compared to the animation teams and director jobs at the end of the day. Any one joining an animation company would do better as a pa rather than as an animator, given animation is more labour extensive, and market doesn't reward labour itself. It rewards accessibility and the management & marketing does that most of the time. So i guess its about who brings in more money at the end of the day. Also agreed with people educating themselves about the real animators behind the cuts rather than praising the company, the company just made ot accessible and organised it, everything else was individual people who spend days in burnout to give you good stuff. :) Also keep at it fellow animators 💪.
It's such a shame that I know the anime could be done a lot better if the animators are given time. The quality of the drawing was such a mess. Tbh I didn't understand a single thing during the fight of mahoraga and Sukuna, but the concept was amazing. Although I want to support the animators, I still don't want to make Mappa thinks that people are praising the anime so it must be okay to continue the same workflow 😡
I would personally prefer anime released every 2 weeks instead of every 7 days. this way episodes are taken care of with more time and passion and the artists can relax more. I prefer quality of quantity.
Moral of the interview …. Mappa is like working in a factory more than 8hrs 7 days a week job sucks but the people are awesome for the most part I feel the pain as a factory worker
I think the only way the anime production in japan could survive is by raising salaries and delaying deadlines a bit and that's won't happen if they only rely on Japanese audiences for money while majority of audience watch pirated anime ,japan must make a platform for them specific for anime and hire translators and make it affordable then their revenue would be way more insane than just japanese tv watchers
This could be a stupid question but does anybody have a go to spot to find what animators work on each episode? I'd love to follow the artist themselves to show more support
Thanking the animators won't do much. It's like the clapping that happened for doctor, nurses and other hospital staff during the height of Covid-19. It's an empty action, the kind I like the least, a performance. You (reader) know what would actually help. If the consumers and the animators actually did something about it. But people are not ready for that, I guess. We live in a Burnout society. In a performative society.
this just makes me feel sad...though i enjoyed the season 2 animation a lot, i always thought about how good everything was in season 1. they really are taking a toll on the animators health. like 1 week prior going live just feels like nonsense..
Funny how people just now realize that they have horrible working conditions when having horrible working conditions is the norm in japan for decades now.
Hi There. Not to discredit the work you've done nor the terrible working conditions that these animators have to power through, but with the way these interviews are presented, who's to say all of these "first hand account/testimonies" aren't just fabricated ? It's a well known issue that JJK has a god awful production schedule thanks to MAPPA's greed so creating a video like this at such an opportune time in order to bank on the already festering hatred for the studio is a very real possibility that i just cant shake of while watching this. Again, i understand that the animators wanna remain anonymous, but that still doesn't change the fact that this entire video could've have been VERY EASILY falsified for clicks and we wouldn't be any the wise because "it just makes sense that they would say these things" (P.s Just to reiterate, OF course the already public tweets from episode directors and key animators aren't what im referring to here. Hence why i stated "testimonies and first hand accounts" earlier.)
I have always wanted to give tegami bachi animators phrase, but what always happens is they have no social media, they do have social media but they ignore me or they just block me. 😢
Why didn’t they just animate season 2 of jjk and then put out the teasers and trailers and then a release date and then send out the episodes weekly instead of animating a episode every week and causing these animators so much stress.!?!?
I dont understand why at the very least they didn't simply cut the season in two halves... Given JJK's massive audience, theyre guaranteed a spot in this season or the next... And this show needs the highest quality of animation more than it needs to air between Halloween and Christmas... God knows what goes through some of these CEO's noggins

It took me 23 hours to make 8 seconds of an animation with no shading and they have to make 20 minutes in a week?
Thank you for making this man
i dont feel like i can immediately believe that you actually interviewed mappa animators but even if its all made up (which i also dont think) its still a very solid video
Bro is the King Of Giving Too Much Work
Truly exposed that not only MAPPA issues (which is far most) yet the entire work condition industry
$20 is nuts
and then you got kyoani sitting on fully finished seasons of dragon maid s2, tsurune s2, and hibike s3 for half a year and the voice actors dubbing it over the completed footage
I'm glad I'm a sound designer so
The pushing to do your best and learn from industry masters I believe is great, but doing so many late request hours one after another, getting no sleep or rest and taking on multiple projects at once is just too much.
$20 per frame? damn, when I was drawing OP for TOEI it was $4.
Do have my guesses on whom you interviewed, but I'll keep that to myself tho
Enjoyed the vid as always, keep them coming!
very nice ad transition

This is just…
WRONG
wat's the show that's playing in the back ground
where's the proof that you actually interviewed these people?
At least they are not jumping of buildings anymore.
the fact that the animators of jjk are earning so little considering how fucking fantastic it looks?
vile. they are top class. pay them top class.
Mappa is the second highest paying studio though.
This is more of a scheduling issue.
Everytime a mappa animator quits the next JJK episode looks even better 💀💀
That's assuming the project is animated in chronological order
it sounds like your interviewing yourself ngl
@@blinkzeninyourarea8143 ah I see. that sounds like a really messy work environment if that's the case.
great vid!
They even protest with "destroying" mappa studio in one scene
This was amazing !
Steep ask but I hope at some point in the future when they get to relax a bit we can get a reanimation of the Mahagora fight.
3:04 aint no way bruh😂 lady moving mad☠️
Gods this is wild. Keep up the good work, bud.
(But please dont be scared to try out new content)
Ganga work 1 week before the episode drops, that's some South Park turn over. crazy!
It's a fun surprise to see so much footage from Tampopo but it might be nice to credit the films you got footage from ^^
Animator here, well thats why id recommend the public to fund indie animation projects from animators in these industries, so that you directly pay the animators rather than the middle management folks or marketing team that eats up most of the budget.
FYI defamation is illegal in Japan even if what you say is true so it will be very hard for them to get better working conditions
I hope they will pay more to their animators. This is sad.
nahhh that sponsor plug 💀💀
I would personally prefer anime released every 2 weeks instead of every 7 days. this way episodes are taken care of with more time and passion and the artists can relax more.
I prefer quality of quantity.
Ik episode 18 was super hard to animate. That shit look crazy.
hope mappa animators can get better treatment soon
Why is there boiling point footage in the background 😭
Moral of the interview …. Mappa is like working in a factory more than 8hrs 7 days a week job sucks but the people are awesome for the most part I feel the pain as a factory worker
Fuck capitalism for making every institution a factory.
I think the only way the anime production in japan could survive is by raising salaries and delaying deadlines a bit and that's won't happen if they only rely on Japanese audiences for money while majority of audience watch pirated anime ,japan must make a platform for them specific for anime and hire translators and make it affordable then their revenue would be way more insane than just japanese tv watchers
can we have the twitter or IG of the jjk animators you know ?
many of us think of prasing them but we forget
This could be a stupid question but does anybody have a go to spot to find what animators work on each episode? I'd love to follow the artist themselves to show more support
Guess we’re never getting chainsaw man s2
Thanking the animators won't do much. It's like the clapping that happened for doctor, nurses and other hospital staff during the height of Covid-19. It's an empty action, the kind I like the least, a performance.
You (reader) know what would actually help. If the consumers and the animators actually did something about it. But people are not ready for that, I guess.
We live in a Burnout society.
In a performative society.
It's crazy how Nanami essentially is bare bones on half of his upper body while Maki emerges with a burnt eye & sexy scars 😂
"meahpaahh" 😂
Ads start at 3:45 and ended at 5:09
0:46 good intro
0:12 pretty sure that was clarified to not be related
this just makes me feel sad...though i enjoyed the season 2 animation a lot, i always thought about how good everything was in season 1. they really are taking a toll on the animators health. like 1 week prior going live just feels like nonsense..
Funny how people just now realize that they have horrible working conditions when having horrible working conditions is the norm in japan for decades now.
Man
Faming in Social Media is smth else
Again, i understand that the animators wanna remain anonymous, but that still doesn't change the fact that this entire video could've have been VERY EASILY falsified for clicks and we wouldn't be any the wise because "it just makes sense that they would say these things"
(P.s Just to reiterate, OF course the already public tweets from episode directors and key animators aren't what im referring to here. Hence why i stated "testimonies and first hand accounts" earlier.)
I have always wanted to give tegami bachi animators phrase, but what always happens is they have no social media, they do have social media but they ignore me or they just block me. 😢
Im gonna tell my grandchildren that WWIII started because of anime 😂
hello. can you or do you have interviews or documentaries featuring anime bg artists? would love to know more about them
Why didn’t they just animate season 2 of jjk and then put out the teasers and trailers and then a release date and then send out the episodes weekly instead of animating a episode every week and causing these animators so much stress.!?!?
Idfc pump out that new ep
Very nice work my man!
One Piece, Naruto/Boruto animators too
I dont understand why at the very least they didn't simply cut the season in two halves... Given JJK's massive audience, theyre guaranteed a spot in this season or the next... And this show needs the highest quality of animation more than it needs to air between Halloween and Christmas... God knows what goes through some of these CEO's noggins
