As a former PROFESSIONAL interviewer (I once hosted my own radio talk show), I have to say that June Millington does a FINE job interviewing Rachael Price. June does what every GOOD interviewer does, gently pulling information from Rachael that is both interesting and informative. Also, since June herself is an accomplished guitarist & singer (having been a member of the all-female band, FANNY), she understands music more than your average journalist.

I’ve made a living as a guitar player. June and Fanny weren’t just another girl band. They were “the girl band.” that established women’s place in rock. They rocked as hard as anyone working in the industry at that time. Ain’t that peculiar

Rachael Price is a wonderful artist that has just begun her career. She fascinates me with her vocals and presence. It's impossible to resist her. What a force. I will follow her career because its sooooooo entertaining! Thanks Rachael! Also, a shout out to June. Don't sweat the negative comments. Cranky folks love to criticize. Don't take it personally. I was a fan of some contemporary Gospel music back in the 80s when there were some very good Christian bands performing. Amy Grant, Benny Hester, Will McFarlane, Phil Keaggy and others. I tried to steer clear of the "sex, drugs, rock-n-roll" genres due to the toxic and dangerous environments they fostered. I always listened to the lyrics, and if I couldn't buy off on what they were selling I would move on. Some of the Gospel stars would "cross-over" to secular music and it would ruffle a lot of feathers in the Christian community. Some of them would fall into scandals and eventually the whole Christian music scene collapsed. It is nice to hear Rachel talk about her roots singing for the Bahai's and didn't really have to "cross-over". She sings jazz based and contemporary music, really anything that she likes to without having the difficulty of navigating an arbitrary line in the sand that was drawn by some. Then again, back in the eighties there was a huge cultural war going on between Christians and pop culture, giving rise to heavy metal bands, many of which would poise themselves directly against Christianity and the Bible. There was the whole debate over censorship and labeling of music going on, and also the long laundry list of scandals that plagued Christianity. The Bahai Faith seems to have an anti-proselytization policy which means they don't push it like the Christians do. Anyways. It is interesting and I am glad Rachel can sing as she pleases without being pressured to a certain platform. And I am glad she can still keep her faith.

Yeah - too much interviewer not enough Rachel. The art of interviewing is to bring out the interviewee and let them light the path...open doors... The 'discussion' or 'conversation' concept in a setting such as this is kinda meaningless as it suggests the host has as much to contribute as the guest. That is clearly not evident. I only watched this because of my admiration for Ms Price - I don't have a clue who the host is and frankly have little interest in her opinions. What a wasted opportunity.

Hi Jacob, my deep appreciation for your reply. Rachael is such a generous person, and she added that portion we taped at her teaching weekend at IMA, after having covered much material already during classes, singing live (jazz) for the students that day, and giving all such support during their show. She understood I was summarizing and then moving on to "new" questions. She's returned twice since then for workshops, drops by when she can, and will be back. Did I mention generous,? Also, loyal to IMA's goals to teach and empower women and girls in music (www.ima.org). Incidentally, you can also find me in other places on UA-cam, in fact many: I was the guitar player in the band Fanny - along with my sister Jean, bass & vocals - and there's a bit of a resurgence on a number of levels. Jean had a stroke just over a year ago and there's a fund for her, which is helping a lot. She is improving by leaps and bounds, and she (we!) hopes to get back on bass again soon. Should you or anyone else wish to help, it's www.gofundme.com/jean-millington-go Thanks so much! xx June

You missed the part above, where I say this was at the end of a long vocal intensive that Rachael kindly did at IMA, so I was wrapping up what she had already talked about with the attendees. Then we moved on. Not intended to be a "regular" interview - I'm sure you can go many other places to see Rachael do that. She is a kind and generous person, and had no problem with the interview. We remain friends, as she does with IMA.

I just saw your comment again, and yes, she is tremendously interesting. This was at the end of a weekend-long workshop and was fascinating as an add-on at the end, for the students and a small audience of friends. It was so gracious of Rachel to allow us to share it, and - the answer to your question is: not an interview. It was a recap of what she'd shared already, with a bit of conversation.
Rachel, believe me, does not let herself be "sucked down" any vortex.
