I just turned 70 and I just stumbled upon this video. Am totally blown away! It is so encouraging and uplifting not only to hear great music from my youth being performed by young people of today but that these same young people give this song such a stunning (? Is that the right adjective?) and certainly fascinatingly subtle presentation. Kudos to the cameraman too whom I believe captured visually everything that was possible to capture visually.
So rare to find an excellent drummer who will say I can do this on just a tambourine. AND a supreme jazz trumpet player say, sure, I can play the guitar on this, AND a singer like Rachel who will say I can pull off a guy's song with conviction, AND a bass player, Bridget, who can drive the whole (possible) mess into a great song. Absolutely love it. Four TALENTED musicians.
Funny, I thought the opposite. No offense 90.9, but the camera doesn't have to be moving every second. Nonetheless, great job capturing their sound live.
I’ve been playing the bass for 43 years this year and this is some of the best and most subtle bass I’ve ever heard, it both mirrors the original line yet adds so much more.
you didn't say if you played an upright, fretless, acoustic bass....if you did you know just how difficult it is to master the instrument --- Bridget is a true master
They did back in 2012, it is called Fun Machine and has five fantastic covers. And, their covers are all over UA-cam. Check out their live cover of Rich Girl from Pickathon, 2013.
I've played this video probably 50 times and it still gives me goose bumps. It was the first Lake Street Dive song I remember hearing. Now I have multiple albums, have seen them in concert twice (with more to come I hope). Excellent band.
@@ronfisher5259 The first time I ever heard the Kinks was via radio. I'm 66 now but I still remember it stopped me in my tracks. I think the Dum Dum Girls did a great cover of this iconic song. Greetings from Oklahoma. You/your loved ones, please be safe in these weirdly unsettling times.
Man that was refreshing. Young people playing old instruments in every single person with a smile on their face. That is the way our world should be everyday. Beautifully done.
I am 73 and a fan of Lake Street Dive. This rendition of one of my favorite songs which I saw the brothers do in person is magnificent. If you aren't familiar with this band I would suggest to look up their music and enjoy. I saw this band one time in Oakland, CA. As you will see with their videos they are all live and in one take they were great.
You seem to be in need of some exposure to great bass players. Try Jaco Pastorius on for size. He's wearing the red shirt and white pants. ua-cam.com/video/DHQfIwyEVzY/v-deo.html
Just found this gem last and can’t stop watching. This is amazing. I keep coming back to these 2 things: I love that Rachael belts out the opening lines with her hands on her hips like this is nothing. How is this band not bigger??
I love the youtube algorithm sometimes. I would have never searched for this song or band but there it was in my recommended videos..... what a voice!! Ill be checking them out for sure.
merci de faire exister ce genre de chanson par votre sublime interprétation , qui remplie notre coeur d'émotions et de souvenirs jusqu'à la dernière minute de notre vie, bravo bravo bravo.
Absolutely amazing rendition of this classic. Musically straight to the point. Perfection in simplicity. Each group member exudes personality. And what a voice ...
I could listen to them all day. Very uplifting sound. LOVE this band!! They work so well together Great cover. Saw them in Glasgow tonight and they were superb. Haste ye back.
I’ve watched this video a lot without ear buds. Finally re watched again with good quality ear buds and WOW was I missing out! Chics bass was kicking!!! Great cover LSD
some of my earliest memories are blasting this song in the car singing with my dad as a kid in the early 90s having no idea what its about haha. love this song
Senior citizen here I have my morning coffee and I stumbled across this I had a smile across my face the whole song what a wonderful way to start my day great job to the whole group.
Amazing, AMAZING cover! I can't count how many times I've watched them sing this in the last month alone! These guys are superb musicians, all of 'em, but most especially the bass player Bridget. And Rachael Price is such a great singer!! Absolutely LOVE her vocals and vocal style. She puts soooo much intensity and passion into this great rock classic that it really makes it fun to watch and hear. I actually like their version much better than The Kinks themselves! Watched many UA-cam videos of them singing this at various venues (and time-frames) and it's ALWAYS a wonderful TREAT! 😀 If they make an album they REALLY need to add this to it! I definitely would buy it. 😎
Four fortunate souls collided then colluded their talents. We who listen are blessed. I have completely changed my levels of expectation with all others for whom the title band is the mantra. No Jive, it's Lake Street Dive! Who cares whos second.
What an incredible voice. So powerful and so soulful and a wonderful cover of a classic. I love when bands add their own flavor but stay still stay true to the original. 4 super talented musicians
The bass player is killing it. Outstanding.
Yes the bass player is totally killing it
Her name is Bridget and she's freaking amazing! Check out Lake Street Dive's live vid on here of " 07 Lake Street Dive 2013-08-04 Elijah" 😍
I completely agree, I just got an overwhelming chill watching her thump the living heck outta that big bass, she is a badass
i agree. I just don't understand why she waited until the first bars of the song to actually tune her bass
The answer is simple: She had to hear, it was out of tune before she could know it needed tuning. 😏@@TimBrown-e9l
I am reduced to tears. Every time. Rachael Price is the best singer I know today.
Instead they feed us terrible music. It sickens me.

wow I'm 68 and I tuned in because it was "Lola" and was also blown away, for the reasons you express. great!!
Great band huh?
Great music. BTW I'm 78-1/2.
Stunning is the right word. 70 yo.
Ok, I'm 72, and the lead singer looks like my next ex wife. What a beauty with a voice like raw honey.
2023, I can’t believe lake street isn’t any more well known than they are by now. Love em.
Rachel Price is doing g a master jazz class. I think the right people know. But you’re right, we need more exposure for artists like this xx
I love it, cheers from Germany 😀🎉🍷🍀
Love it too
@@riabouma9317 cheers to you from germany 😀🍷🎉❤️🎶😀🍀
Just saw them on CBS Saturday morning last Saturday. 6-23-24
An example of a good mixer here. All their voices and instruments are flowing through the way they're supposed to. Love it.
A stripped down, fearless cover. Simply outstanding.

Nail on the head. They were so great to have in. So passionate about the music and genuinely fun to be around. Thanks for watching!
Woooooord
That bass player kicks ass
And she's singing harmony at the same time. Great!
Amen to that! Bridget plays with abandon and her pipes are fine too. Having said that, the ''Good Kisser'' video shows she's got a killer figure.
I watch this every few weeks, ever since it came out, such a great song, beautifully performed
Great !
I am 77yrs and this video just stumbled on me some kind of mysterious way. I am happy it did. What a great performance. Thank you..
I love her voice
It would have been a hit 40 years ago
Hats off to whoever's behind that camera. Really good shots
Thanks!
Funny, I thought the opposite. No offense 90.9, but the camera doesn't have to be moving every second. Nonetheless, great job capturing their sound live.
It's shot at the best radio station in KC. 90.9, the Bridge. Awesome studio with great support by musicians and supporting members
Thanks for the feedback!
Agree...it has the feel of "The Weight" from The Last Waltz.
I’ve been playing the bass for 43 years this year and this is some of the best and most subtle bass I’ve ever heard, it both mirrors the original line yet adds so much more.
Bridget is freakin' incredible.

Check out Bridget’s playing on their cover of Rich girl. It’s incredible.
Totally agree with you.
👍👍👍
Singer both vocally/physically is a cross between Joni Mitchell & Carly Simon, doesn't get any better! great job everyone. :-)
Can’t stop, listening to this. What a great cover by extraordinarily talented musicians!!!!
The Best!!!👍🎶👏
The 1.1K that disliked this.... what is your problem? This is amazing!
Silly sods .... my first name Garrick!🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶
Bunch of British Cigarettes
She's beautiful ,she rocks this song 👍
Please release an album of covers. I’m phenomenally impressed by your music, and covers like this take the original to new heights.

Saw them do Steely Dan's, Dirty Work. Amaze

This diehard Kinks fan is totally blown away by this cover. Great vocals, band, footage & sound. WOW!
I knew there were a few of you who would watch this!
Being a Kinks fan since ‘64 ( yeah, I’m 73 now) and seeing them live about 8 times- first in 68 I totally love this cover: the band is outstanding!

Her voice aggravatingly sharp
@@alfching2499
Question: Do you mean timbre of her voice is sharp OR that the pitch of her voice is sharp?
(I dispute either one.)
Man that was refreshing. Young people playing old instruments in every single person with a smile on their face. That is the way our world should be everyday. Beautifully done.
Bass player is outa sight
What an impressive group of outstanding musicians, and that voice, forget about it.
Almost 70 here! So many memories to this song and you guys are AWESOME!! Thank you!
Cheers 🍻 Thanks for listening!
Kudos to the audio engineer. Perfectly blended allowing you to hear every sound.
Thanks for listening!
It's the bridge man. Of course it's perfect.
I agree completely.
An amazing band. Every one of them a musician.
Are you kidding me?! Ever from the start, and all these years since, still brings shivers, every single time! Love the voice and the posture!
I love cover songs and by far this is one of the best cover songs I've ever hear
Amazing. I don't have words for how good they are all on this song.
I’m not the worlds most physical guy, but her voice nearly knocks me down. Her voice is powerful.
Watch and listen to her cover of white rabbit. It's a eargasm. I promise. I've seen it so many times. Just gets better each time. Beautiful voice.

Iowa City proud. Bridget rocks.
I have a bit of a crush on miss Bridget. Is there hope?
and London proud 😎
Wow - that bassist is incredible
Came here to say just that.
Toward the end, the bass work is the star of the show.
And what a damned show.
You seem to be in need of some exposure to great bass players. Try Jaco Pastorius on for size. He's wearing the red shirt and white pants. ua-cam.com/video/DHQfIwyEVzY/v-deo.html
Equal parts playing the bass and dancing with it.
The first time I ever actually heard one of those upright basses. It always gets drowned out in orchestras.
Took a classic song and made it their own. And now its timeless. Thank you. Well done.
Kinks. one of the most underrated bands (At the time). Just starting to get the recognition they deserve. Waterloo sunset. Classic!
No matter how good this is, you’ll never beat the original!
Love this band! Got on my Radar a few yrs back!❤
I love it when young bands pay tribute to the roots. Fantastic.
I’ve seen this band 3 times. Once in Atlanta and twice in Athens GA They are amazing.
I’ve seen them 5 times & I can say they are the MOST Fun you will EVER have at a concert!
I've adored this song for 50 years. This is one of the best cover versions I've encountered.
We agree!
WORD!
the chills don't stop . . . dynamite rendition of classic rock power-rock song
It helps when you have a really good song to cover, big hit when I was teenager 👌👏💃🏻
Amazing! After a bad day at work, this band raises my spirits!
Just found this gem last and can’t stop watching. This is amazing. I keep coming back to these 2 things:

killer version of a classic.. They all knocked it out of the park... Rachel always kills it.!!!
I've never heard of Lake Street Dive before, but I'm impressed by the singer; she has a great voice!

I love this song. Strange to play in front of such darkness.
the bass player is incredible.
ask anyone who's tried - the upright, fretless double bass is impossibly hard to master.....Bridget's the best I've seen and heard !
@@larryc3860 Doesn't hurt she's also drop dead gorgeous
@@jeffbrehove2614 yep
I love the sound of the bass on this version!

Saw the Kinks live in the 60's, one of my fav songs among many, EXCELLENT cover
🖤
i've watched this a hundred times and its fresh everytime i see it
Really lovely version. It is brilliant that classic numbers have reached real longevity now as a new generation enjoy and record them as standards.
I know of this group from listening to WMVY (thru iHeart radio)independent listener supported radio! No format, the DJ play anything they like!
I just absolutely love this cover. Dang that girl can sing. Well done kids.
I have never commented on a video but I have to say this girl was born to sing this song and the bassist is from another world!
Those bass runs were magical!!! ❤️❤️❤️
So fine!
Absolutely amazing rendition of this classic. Musically straight to the point. Perfection in simplicity. Each group member exudes personality. And what a voice ...
YES
looks like y'all were havin' lots of fun. love it.

They’ve all got a great after-hours-really-doing-it-like-we-want vibe. That said, so good to hear female voices with some guts and soul to them.
They do sound like they enjoy what they are doing to the fullest! Thanks for watching!
It is good to hear a strong female voice again. I grew up hearing Linda Ronstat and Grace Slick.
