  • Canadians are infamous for apologizing - for everything, it seems. But they should never apologize for their art. Join McMichael Executive Director and North Star curator Ian Dejardin as he examines a handpicked selection of Canadian masterpieces and shares how he was inspired by the comment, “Won’t Europeans just laugh at the Group of Seven?” to follow the path that ultimately led him across the Atlantic to the McMichael.

@52:16 Frank Brangwyn was born in Bruges so it’s not that odd that there’s a museum dedicated to him there.

Sorry to lose Ian - great ambassador for Canadian art. Best of luck, Ian!

Unapologetic for Canadian art? Who's he talking about? Canadians aren't apologetic for our art. We love our art. Canadian art represents what we, as Canadians are all about & what shapes us as a people. Where has this joker been living for these past years? I, for one, could care less what he likes or dislikes. But I guess this entire lecture is about himself.

I think he is referring to the inferiority complex that we seem to have with Canadian accomplishments, being juxtaposed against the much larger and much more in your face USA and the fact that we have not been typically associated with making great art vis-a-vis the Europeans - which I disagree with vehemently and I know you do too.
