There are several variations of Cha Kroeung and they are all delicious. Some people use beef instead of chicken, others use innards. A traditional way is using prahok (Cambodian fermented mudfish) and holy basil, which is also delicious. However, I understand that not everyone has access to these ingredients. In this video, I share with you another variation of this dish that I've learned from a Cambodian friend. Thank you for watching 🙏

@@ThunThunChannel yes i will! stomach can't take the spice so i'll probably be adjusting that one. what wok are you using? does it need to be seasoned?
@@michelle_tsai_drums Yes It needs to be seasoned from time to time. But I haven't seasoned it recently. I'm not sure the brand name, I bought it from an Asian grocery store in MA many years ago. There's no logo imprinted on the wok either.
Hello. I'm attempting to make above recipe and could not locate in my area 2 ingredients. Kaffiir and Galangal I could not find. Could you suggest a substitute for the two? Please help...
Hi Sharon, thank you for watching! You can use Lime zest for Kaffir Lime Leaves substitute. Lime zest is more sour than the leaves so you'll only be using this substitute for the fragrance. As for galangal, you can leave it out. There are no substitutes for galangal that would work in this dish. It has an earthy, pine forest fragrance and taste. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for watching!
Oun, we Khmer need to stop calling everything belongs to Thai like Thai eggplant, Thai chilli, etc. These things grow every in Cambodia, not just in Thailand. They try to claim our Preah Vihear loo, but its ours.
I typically use a mortar and pestle but my friend got me this immersion blender which works better than a traditional blender. It blends quite smooth and no need to add water. Look it up

Mortar and pestle is the best
Yummy yummy 🤤 yummy yummy food 🤤🤤🤤🤤
I have diabetes I can’t have sugar or salt this was one of my favorite food before I have diabetes. Your food looks good.
Thank you so much! There may be some low sodium sauces that you can use. The sugar isn't as necessary. I hope you can enjoy it again. Take care
It's been so cold here on the east coast and all I want to eat are heavy-flavored spicy foods to keep me warm! Are you the same way?

I think I could make this. thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Don’t use soy sauce or oyster sauce tho. The flavor of the two sauces don’t match the flavors of kreung.

As a Thai person, I feel like most Thai food is similar to Cambodian food.
Yes that is true, Cambodian and Thai use similar ingredients.
Khmer and Thai are long lost cousins
came here from reddit. gonna try this and see what i come up with.
Welcome from Reddit :) The written recipe is estimated. Please adjust the flavors to your liking. It is a very flavorful dish 🙂

This candyass can cook
Why you called thai chili, Thai eggplant?
Why don’t you call chili or red chili?
Hi thank you for watching, this is how they labeled it at the store I bought it from.
@@ThunThunChannel but my wish I would to see you write Khmer instead of Thai thanks.
Next time say it Cambodian eggplant. Cambodian lemon grass, Cambodian Chili. etc
Yo nigga I’m making this today
