Hannah Cornelius and Cheslin Marsh thought that they were about to end their fun night out on a high note- they had taken all of the necessary precautions to make sure they both made it home safely. However, when they least suspected it, the pair was ambushed by a group of men who would take them through the most terrifying, horrific 11 hours of torture.

To be in a horrifying position and have to internally and externally accept the inevitable- that you WILL be raped, WILL be sexually violated by multiple people-is an utterly terrible nightmare. Even more so, that all you ask in return is that you live…that you won’t fight the violation and disregard to your body, but to beg to keep it alive after the fact…just for it to not happen. I cannot imagine what she must have felt. My heart hurts so much.

She probably already knew her fate was sealed at that point as they’d be so much DNA evidence truly horrific for any human being to go through that ordeal. 💔

I'm South African and attended this University. I stayed in an apartment opposite hers. It's a student town so we often stayed out late etc. It's horrific what they did to them 😢 R.I.P Hannah Cornelius ❤

What an absolutely disgusting and horrific story. I am sick to my stomach thinking about what that beautiful girl went through. I am beyond sick of women being murdered and violated at the hands of men all over this earth. None of us are safe. I’m so so so sick of it. Rest so peacefully, Hannah.
not all men are like this.. in fact look where this happened.. and of course, they are the 13%, who has the highest rate of crime, and this is being said to be statistically accurate.. but in s africa, its far more than 13%.. knowing your area helps, but the best way is to arm yourself..

If you guys want to listen to a truly horrific case that is similiar but 20x worse you should look up Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. It Hass to be the most horrific story I have ever listened to by far. The torture that this couple went through is not even comprehendible. I have sincerely cried for both families.

He was worried about his bank, anyway. He wouldn't give them the PIN number. Of course it's sick and horrific what happened to him, but this person obviously is affected by what happened to her for a reason. Coming from a woman who has been abused and kidnapped at gunpoint, where the men did nothing to help, I'm disgusted that you think there is something wrong with her comment.

South African here. Sadly this is only one of many tragic stories, which most are not even heard of because there are too many. We have such a beautiful country, but unfortunately the crime and corruption is out of this world. Thank you for covering and sharing this story ❤

You can see in Hannah’s smiles and eyes she was a kind and humble person. This is unbelievable.
Even had Cheslin given his bank password for really believe those monsters would’ve still committed the horrific violent crimes against Hannah and Cheslin 😢😢😢
I always have an alarm with pepper spray on my keys at all times. It’s the BEST gadget. I also always have a pocket knife easily accessible. But I teach my girls the same my parents taught me. 1. Never get gas alone at night 2. Never unlock your car till you’re right there. Once you unlock it, get in and immediately lock it behind you. Always get in that habit!!!! You can also carry your keys with one key coming through the middle of 2 fingers and the rest gripped in your palm. Sharpest side out. That way if you need to turn around and defend yourself you can try to go for the eyes (or anything) with your key but it’s crucial to have your keys easily accessible when going to your car. But never leave it unlocked, or unlock it too early bc they can get in. And always always always lock it the second you get in. ❤

I'm also from South Africa and my father is a retired doctor. The horrific things he saw and the victims that do survive these horrific attacks has taken a huge toll on him. We are from a world renown surfing town called Jeffrey's Bay and it used to be such a great and safe place. Not anymore. Our neighbor were murdered right across the road, my father found him. Our area was safe but has become so crime ridden and dangerous, the violent crime that happened to friends and neighbors in only the past 4 years just leave you speechless. My family has also been victims of farm murders. South Africa is not safe for life. You are safe nowhere in South Africa. It's just sad. 😢
Okay I feel so sorry for him and I'm sure he felt so guilty about not being able to save Hannah and everyone involved needs to be in prison for life. And Rachel it's so true and I mean it from the bottom of my heart ❤

I’m crying Hannah’s dad lost both of his girls💔 and having to explain this to his son too. I watched a lot of true crime but I think this is the first one that reduced to tears.
And he (Hannah's father) died of cancer in 2022. Tragic.
Thank you for covering this case Rachel. As a fellow South African, we know that a 'Life' sentence will likely mean they will be free in no more than 10 to 15 years. Our justice system is horrible.
Wow. That doesn’t seem like justice so I hope that’s not the case. If someone murdered one of my children and got only 15 years, I don’t know how I could stop myself from doling out my own justice. I’d spend a whole lifetime in prison to avenge my child if I had to!

As feisty and as a strong woman that I am, I do not care I have a crowbar in my vehicle and pepper spray. If anyone tries to get into my vehicle, they will regret it. Especially after covering true crime cases myself I know how dangerous the world is. I thank God every single day for my life and for the safety of my loved ones. Rachel you are a beautiful person. I had the pleasure of meeting you at CrimeCon. Thank you for telling their story. Not only have they ruined, the victims lives, but they’ve also ruined their families lives as well. I do not know what kind of evil possesses people to do this. Animals kill each other to survive. There is nothing scarier than a human being.
I’m terrified after hearing this and I watch a ton of true crime and this one is gonna leave a permanent mark 😢

South African here and what I've realised alot of south African killers don't take court seriously they are always laughing and smiling 🙈🙈, making weird expressions I wonder why
It’s all over. Anywhere. That’s just personality disorders and sociopathic tendencies. Lots of criminals have the ego of “I can get away with anything.” So when they show these signs of no remorse, it’s easier for the judge/jury/whoever is deciding…to make that decision. And sentencing.

I always explain to my boyfriend/family that I never feel safe as a woman, especially when I’m alone or with my 3 year old daughter because there are truly monsters living amongst us. I am so happy that Cheslin survived and I hope he keeps Hannah’s memory alive. The world was a brighter place with Hannah in it and I will never be able to comprehend why her life was cut short the way that it was. Those “men” will rot in jail as they should. Glasses USA is a PAIN to deal with! Yes, you can return them if you don't like them, but ONLY twice. I got a pair that had the Rx wrong. I couldn't see anything. They replaced them. I ended up not liking the frames (the nose piece was annoying) so I found a different frame. I didn't like the color (it was different than what showed on the website) & was told I couldn't return them bc I had already returned twice from that order (even tho the first time wasn't really bc of me). One pair I got got a scratch on a lens not long after I got them & it was super distracting & right in my line of vision. I've never had that happen w other glasses. So I guess they were cheaper but the savings wasn't worth the hassle.

I live all and I switch my kitchen light on cause there is no window in the kitchen facing outside but I keep my lights off in the living room and in my room I've actually gotten used to being in the dark 🙂

My dear Hannah 💔 How is this world so dark I ask myself sometimes. She did not want a birthday present because she thought it was unfair as some people were struggling and were way less fortunate. Cheslin walked her home but her heart is so big she returned the gesture and did not want him to walk alone so she decided to drive him home. My God Hannah 💔 What an angel. My condolences to the family and to South Africa as this country surely lost one of the kindest souls it has 😭

It takes a lot to get to me unfortunately until 6 years I fought a losing battle against addiction over those 25 years I seen some pretty messed up things but stories like this get to me and for anyone who thinks this happen because they were on drugs look at it this way there’s millions of addicts out there who never even think about doing anything this horrible this is done by men who don’t have a soul
