I read Annies mothers blog, written in swedish, and found something significant that I want to correct. The blog says that her hair was cut to the length of 10- 15cm, which means about 60- 70cm was missing, not the other way around. Almost her entire hair was cut off.

Since long hair gets so easily tangled up when swimming, I feel like it would be a complete mat if she had been tossled around in the water and therefore seeming much shorter to the funeral people. Maybe they thought it would make her more presentable if they cut it off?

When I was 18 I started traveling internationally and using atm’s was a way for my mom and I to communicate. Sometimes I was in European farmland and there wasn’t cell reception but the train stations had atm’s. So I would take money out, my mom would check my bank account online and see the location of the atm. Maybe, for Annie, the atm was a way to communicate with someone.

I think the government theory makes the most sense but I don’t think it was because they mistook her for the other lady. They just don’t look enough alike for that. I think it makes more sense that she herself was some time of operative. I mean she went back and forth between two countries. She had friends but went out mostly by herself. Her family and friends rarely knew what she was doing. She could have been an operative, and op went bad and she was killed. Then her handler staged the body so it would make its way back to her family.

This is what I was thinking from the beginning, I kept wondering all kinds of things about her and it seems like a lot is a mystery and leaves this possibility very possible in my opinion. I do think it is highly unlikely they would get her mixed up with the other women, they have ways of identifying them and access to photo ID’s, ways of tracking whereabouts and they do not look enough alike to mistake them.

This was also where my brain went -- again, monitoring drinks, frequent trips, limited relationships. And then there's a guy coming into the picture with a false identity? Plus, if she hit multiple bank machines, she must have thought she had the money to withdraw... so where did it go? And how were call histories vanishing on the Swedish end, not just the Scottish end (or vanishing at all for that matter)? What was the timing of the wiped emails, and who has zero emails to be found in their account to begin with? Who was this mystery fiance... where was this fiance after she died... why did nobody know about him to begin with? That part is weird, too.
      Whose death records are "classified"?
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but this case...

Bella is such a breath of fresh air. She’s so authentic, and even when she mentions her opinion of something terrible she doesn’t come from a place of over-the-top negativity. Theory: Annie was involved in MI6 or similar herself. She wanted out - perhaps her 'life-changing' decision? Maybe the 'marriage' was her reason to leave.
She spoke 5 or 6 languages, travelled frequently, had lots of contacts but no one who was super close to her. She was well organised and could get places very quickly. It might explain why the files are classified also.
Poor Annie though, regardless of what the truth is. She seemed like such a cool person.

This poor woman was clearly murdered and the all of the details surrounding her last few days, the phone records going 'missing,' the bruising not being properly recoreded in the coronor's report and the apparent witness seeing 'her' standing by the ocean, are indicitive of a cover-up for some reason.Great video thanks Bella this one really gets your brain working trying to figure it out. I think that she was getting blank calls similar to her friend before her death. That's why she doesn't want to attend the calls from the telephone and asked her parents not to call the telephone. She might have had a feeling that her mobile was hacked as well and that's why she didn't talk really well with her family and may be she thought it was a stocker so she told her father that she was planing to get married. So the stocker might step back coz she have a boyfriend. She tried going back to home and someone he found out and came there which explains her annoyed feeling and her walking fastly without looking like sprinting. So basically the culprit must be someone who is following her around and has hacking skills.

Either the poor woman had some sort of a schizophrenic breakdown, or there really was some sort of government cover-up (Hence, the disappearing phone records and the empty email inbox). She spoke multiple languages. Maybe some sort of corrupt agency was trying to recruit her, and she didn't want anything to do with them.

  • @briebrownn
    @briebrownn Рік тому +338

I think she was approached by a government agency to become an agent/spy. She would be the perfect candidate, she spoke numerous languages, she was already frequently traveling between countries, they normally recruit people around college age in schools, and they like to recruit women because they are less assuming to be spies. Or she thought she was being recruited by a government agency, but she actually got recruited by the bad guys pretending to be a government agency, like in the show Alias. I feel like that’s the only thing that makes sense for who would have the power to delete phone call Records from the phone company.
Also, the guy that said he saw someone standing on the promenade the night before is super sketchy. I think the statistic is some thing like 80% of witnesses that come forward to police who tell them about a death end up being the ones responsible. What are the chances that he saw her the night before and happened to pass by again when police found her?

Of course it happens, and if it was a deranged killer its more likely - but I do feel that person was trying to get information from her. • @Rayowag

I genuinely think this might have been a psychotic episode that slowly got worse. The cut off hair, the vanished Filofax and fleece, the emptied inbox, not being aware she had cash on her, mentioning a marriage suddenly, telling people others are listening, asking about how hacking works, the behavior she never had before and the mood switches. All of those would make this make sense. I think the camera footage times not lining up as well as vanished phone records could very well just be technical errors of the time. The guy that pretended to be that rugby player might've existed but it's not confirmed if the sighting she had of him after that was actually him. She could've literally just had this weird interaction w the dude faking his personality and the paranoid response to this could've triggered psychotic symptoms. I mean, wanting to suddenly leave the country and then ending up dead once you figure out you can't leave is quite...unusual. The whole thing about drowning being a difficult way to end ones own life is true but the psychotic mind can definitely push past a lot of survival instincts and deep water wouldn't be needed in a brain suddenly so determined to leave life. Only thing that seems totally off for this theory is that bit of info about fresh water algea. I also don't think the man coming up to police is too weird, depending on how old he was I'd say it's quite common for men of a certain age to talk a lot of stuff that might not even be true just to seem relevant in situations that involve emergency services.
So yeah, I'd say either a psychotic break that ended erratic and bad or it truly is one of the more stalker-ish stories...in which case I'd also say the key person isn't the fake rugby guy and rather something more sinister and involving more than one person. Especially since both countries are keeping everything locked. Could've been criminal activity related to law enforcement and that could explain why everything was wiped and immediately closed and won't be touched by both countries. It's not rare for police and crime rings to have weird connections...is all I'm saying. Doesn't have to be cia haha

I agree. Unfortunately in a lot of people who die by suicide they have made plans beforehand, or there is evidence that it was not a decision that was planned. Random theory... Does anyone know if that flight was fully booked? And/ or maybe only business and first class seats were available and she didn't have enough cash at the time (cheques take like 7 days to process into an account). Maybe she was hoping to get on the next flight possible in the morning. Decided to try to save the cash she has and sleep outside on the beach, and get to the airport first thing. The tide came in and hit her during the night? That would maybe explain some missing items; if she put her fleece on her as a blanket, possibly having her book next to her as comfort, those lighter items got washed out to sea?

My theory is maybe the person who killed her was a diplomat of another country or someone important. That would explain why her phone records and everyone that she spoke to records were wiped because that sounds like something only the phone company or the government could accomplish. The erasure of the phone records also seems like she probably spoke to her killer in the days leading to her death and that's why they were wiped. Someone high power killing her would also explain why the police didn't want to look into it. This is all a theory.

    Hi Bella
I really love true crime videos just like all of your other viewers, and I love it that you also focus on the victims and not just on the perpetrators. Thank you so much for creating these videos.
I see from the comments that many more women are becoming more and more concerned with our safety which is understandable. I used to be afraid of walking home alone at night before I started to take self-defense classes, and I'd like to share some tips that I've leaned from my classes so far with all of your female viewers, which I hope can be of some help. I've recently been taking Krav Maga for women classes for self-defense, and so far I've learned that the best best self-defense targets on a mans body for women (and girls) to attack, and the best ways of striking them are as follows:
    - the eyes (finger poke them)
    - the nose (palm heel strike upwards)
    - the throat (chopping like actions)
    - the testicles (knee / kick / punch / slap / grab-twist-pull and hold on to them tightly until he collapses and passes out within a matter of seconds)
    - the knees (sideways kick to dislocate)
We always remember "eyes, nose, throat, testicles, knees" or "eyes, nose, throat, balls, knees"
I've also been taught that even a trained, determined teenage girl could easily take down a man if she goes for these targets, especially if she goes fast and hard for the eyes or the testicles (or "high balls" and "low balls" as I've also heard them called!)
One very powerful technique I also learned is that if a man has removed his trousers and he is about to rape you, then his testicles will now be extremely vulnerable to the "grab, twist, pull and hold" counterattack. You should quickly snatch his balls, give them a short sharp twist so that they become locked in your grasp and cannmot easily escape, and then keep squeezing and pulling them as hard as you can until he passes out in under 8 seconds - and I've been taught that he will , no matter how big and strong he is. You can even use both hands, and it's still just as effective even if you only manage to get hold of one testicle.
Apparently, when a man has his testicles forcefully squeezed it causes him to curl over, collapse, convulse and quickly lose all of his strength before he collapses and passes out or goes into shock in under 8 seconds. Most importantly this holds true no matter how big and strong he is - a wonderful natural advantage we females have in combat over men. Surely this is something we should all be made aware of and we should all be taught how to do it!
I really wish that more women and girls were made aware of effective ways to fight back - in particular I wish they were made more aware of this "ball grab and hold" technique. From what I've read and been taught it has literally saved many women throughout the world. The women of Somalia even have a name for this move and they call it "Qworegoys". Mothers teach their daughters to reach under their attackers tunic and grab, twist, and pull his testicles until he passes out, and to also tuck their head in until the point he loses consciousness in case he initially starts to fight back.
We, as women, really can fight back effectively, stay safe, and lessen our fears if we know how and where to strike on an attackers body and most importantly, learn how to "fight dirty" ❤

I'm only 38mins in to it & stopping before the theories to give my theory before I continue. I'm thinking she could have been developing schizophrenia & had a psychotic episode, the odd moods, paranoia, wiping of emails etc...she's the correct age for that to happen, tell-tale signs of paranoia, mood changes and if she did enter the water at Prestwick beach, maybe to de-stress or some other reason like hearing or seeing things then she could have easily become hypothermic & start stripping off her clothes which is very common when extremely cold, then become unconscious & drown. The sea is absolutely freezing in summer...last time I was on the west coast of Scotland in June & we could barely stand in the sea up to our knees, felt like we were being stabbed with ice-cold knives, but in December you could easily go into hypothermia or shock. I'm unconvinced about the algae in the bone marrow, it could have come from drinking anything anywhere Sweden or Scotland, she drank aloe so maybe she also tried other natural drinks, or drank from a natural water source. The phone logs - I don't know how that works, could it have been a glitch on her phone or maybe she used some kind of app to block her caller ID if she was indeed feeling paranoid & stalked, the only thing I find suspicious is the official findings have not been released to the parents. Ok, going to continue to hear about other theories.

I live in Edinburgh. That would be a really strange place to choose to go and kill yourself. I mean, you could drown yourself easy enough on this side of the island if that's what you wanted to do. Why bother with taking a train across to Glasgow and Prestwick? And at 4pm, in December, it would definitely be dark here. So, a really bleak setting too. And then, if you're going to walk out into the surf and sea, why leave your backpack on? There didn't seem to be anything in there that she would 'want to take with her' if she was indeed committing suicide. It would seem natural to just take it off and leave it on the beach. The alcohol in her system could be explained by her getting a drink on the train if she indeed did take the train. But I just think the whole story doesn't add up. She had plans in the immediate future. She made a cash withdrawal. Why withdraw money if you're going to kill yourself? And then you combine that with the fact that she had this weird stalker and paranoia about people listening/monitoring her... Weird. And YES, the water would be fekking cold.
BTW, can confirm, we have good water in Scotland. If you're traveling in Edinburgh, just bring a bottle and fill it up from the tap. Lovely tap water.

Please cover the Thabo Bester case! It is a huge case in South Africa right now. One of the most insane cases I have come across.

The process after death actually raises your blood alcohol level. So you could die not having had anything to drink and still have a blood alcohol count.

Yes this is true, the process of early decomposition after death releases small amounts of ethanol alcohol into the body, so the 0.2 blood alcohol level despite Annie not having drank any alcohol makes sense.

Hey Bella really enjoyed seeing your moving vlogs, was nice to catch up. Totally down for any wedding prep or house decorating videos, exploring thrift shops or restaurants, and absolutely the mystery Mondays. So happy to see you’ve probably settled in, looking forward to more :)

This is what I'm wondering . . . You said she tool her Filofax everywhere and all of th3 sudden this guy ends up where she's swimming and she can't remember telling him about it. Maybe he swiped it from the bar she met him at? That would give him access to her entire life essentially.

Can you do the case on Steven Avery?? The Netflix doc “making a murderer” gives the idea that he was wrongly convicted but there is a new series by the Daily Wire coming out this summer that is going to be giving evidence and new interviews that he is in fact guilty

I feel so sad for Annie’s family & friends. I can’t imagine having no answers. I agree , this does not add up. She seemed like an amazing young woman. May she Rest in Peace ♥️🕊️

The theory that she is a spy makes no sense. These people are professionals, they would know how to stage a death. In addition, they wouldn't delete all of her personal emails.

Wow! I’m from Edinburgh, and although I was young at the time, I’m shocked I have never heard of this case! I have been a subscriber of yours for years now and it is crazy (and scary) to hear you speak about so many familiar, local places to me! I am so sad for Annie and her loved ones. I hope they get more answers one day. Thank you for sharing her story Bella 🥺

Like wise, I'm from Ayrshire and don't remember ever hearing about this , especially with her body washing up on the shore. They clearly kept this so hushed. X

Corruption with law enforcement happens in every country. I went through something similar with a family member's death so my heart breaks for her family and friends as they will probably never have the truth about what happened to Annie.

If I was experiencing this I'd want a DNA test conducted by someone I personally hired.... If any government could have been involved? Her saying she was gonna make a decision that could change her life? It wouldn't be the first time someone's death was faked so they could go completely undetectable... I know it's unlikely... Or maybe this boyfriend was the operative/agent... No random person wiped that many phone history down to the carrier level..
