Pro-tip: You can cook steel-cut oats from the night before: For 1 cup of oats, 4 cups of water. Bring water to boil, add oats, simmer for only 1 minute. Remove from heat. Let cool. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, add on fire, bring to simmer and cook for 9-10 mins or eyeball it. Overnight soaking works great (and it's what it usually says on Irish steel-cut oats boxes)!

I have found that steel cut oats are kind of like making grits. In that, instant will do, but making from scratch is always best! This video is great because I just started to eat healthier again and I have incorporated oatmeal into my diet. And, even though I have tons of instant oatmeal a home, I prefer the real deal. And, it's been so long since I have made steel cut oats, so this video was really helpful! Thank you!

I finally had steel cut oats this morning. I actually made the quick cook steel cut oats I found in the grocery store, cook time just 5 to 7 minutes. When I'm done with the box, I will try the regular steel cut oats. So good! I also used almond milk on my second batch, as the first batch was with water. I loved the creamier texture from the almond milk. I would love to make a batch on the weekend and heat up throughout the week. Thanks!

I like steel cut oats but the 20 minute wait time (per Red Mill instructions) is a pain and I never go more than a couple minutes between stirring or they will stick to the bottom... It's so much easier putting the oats and water in a glass bowl and put it in the microwave heating for a few minutes before going to bed (I leave it right in the microwave)...In the morning I pour it into a pot and heat it on the stove for about 5 minutes....much easier and faster this way.....I also throw in frozen strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and some flaxseed meal while it's heating on the stove and then when I pour it back into the glass bowl cut up one banana on top... great every morning....

Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

Fabulous. Thank you very much. I cooked these for the first time and they seem to have come out great. They are a bit more on the creamier side than your oats but that may be in part due to me adding another cup of water and half cup of milk at the simmering stage when I noticed that the oats were sticking to the bottom and the liquid had pretty much evaporated 🤷🏻‍♂️. Not sure how to go about it next time. But will probably turn the heat down even further at the simmering stage. Thanks again for the helpful video!!

Moving to a new place with old-fashioned electric coil stove top made cooking things like this or long cooking rice a pain since each burner took too long to react to temp changes unlike my other gas stove top. Finally found my bliss using the Ninja Foodi with the pressure cooker setting it couldn't be easier! Cooks all the rice I've tried flawlessly including long grain or short grain brown or Basmati rice as well as the steel cut oats and cooks up frozen chicken breasts quickly and with much less mess and effort. I am not one for buying new gadgets but if you cook a lot of porridge or rices, it is a worthwhile investment. No burned or scorched pot bottoms or crunchy underdone rice or lumpy oatmeal...Yay!

I'm a fan of steel cut. I have it for breakfast every winter. I cook mine in a slow cooker. Put the oats in a bowl - 1 oats to 3 water. Then put the bowl in a slow cooker and put a few centimetres (1 inch) water in the cooker so as to double boil it.Don't forget to put the lid on. Set the auto timer to start about 3 hours before I wake up. Up at the crack of dawn, get my oats, put a bit of brown sugar on them with milk. Yum!

I really like this style of oatmeal. I usually toast the oats in a dry pan first, then cook with water and coffee creamer, salt, a pat of butter, sugar, molasses, frozen blueberries. One thing to know is that brown sugar is just table sugar with molasses mixed in. It is better to just mix those two ingredients yourself and not have to worry about the brown sugar drying out and turning hard. You can get one of those plastic squeeze bottles for dressings and oils and dump the jar of molasses into this. You can just grab it and squeeze out the desired amount into dishes.

It's probably 1 cup of oats ladies and gentlemen; all recipes I've seen with 3-4 cups liquid or water use 1 cup of steel cut oats.
