hi Doug! my old boss from Organic Avenue. I worked in the lower east side start up. My first kitchen job- Doug was the first to give me a chance- and I'm a health supportive chef by trade now for 10 years!
I love Doug's enthusiasm for sprouts. I started sprouting about 2 1/2 years ago. I am as enthusiastic about it today as I was when I started. I have given Mason jars & seeds & written instructions to 5 people as gifts. Only 1 of the 5 (my youngest son) started sprouting. He is as enthusiastic about sprouting as I am. We both sprout seeds every week. We put sprouts in smoothies, salads, sandwiches and even cooked dishes. I told one friend about sprouting & she got into it & has given sprouting kits to her grown children. I am 77 years old. I became a vegetarian over 40 years ago & then a vegan about 21 years ago. I enjoy good health & am still working. I think everyone should be sprouting for all the reasons Doug pointed out. Excellent interview. Thank you very much.

I tilt my sprouting jars on plastic shoe display holders that sit in tray (to catch any water). . Interesting fact ..the Bible says God made the plants BEFORE He made man. He made our solutions first! Amazing! This info is invaluable! I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Wonderful pod cast, I started sprouting last winter and now I sprout in trays, and I all so grow micro greens, both in trays. You can't beat the nutritional value of both, I eat them every day. I always have them going at different growing times. I have eaten only organic for about 20 years, this has added to my nutritional food intake, I feel great, and haven't been sick for years. Thank you for having this pod cast. Doug is such an inspiration.
raised my daughters growing sprouts and selling them in the '80's, eventually having an organic produce market and raw food kitchen, serving lunch and teaching sprouting classes. teaching folks to grow their own is the best., I was forced to close my business because I could not afford to test the sprouts for ecoli before selling. I still grow sprouts weekly in my home.
I've heard it said and I believe that plants do not support bacterial growth - if your plants have ecoli it's because someone or some animal pooped on them or your plants are downstream from an animal farm, for example. Shame you got shut out like that.
you should to a you tube or a page of some sort I am sure many would love to hear your knowledge. Really cool. I remember that from the 80's my friend had issues over this also.
On a whim and after dabbling dinner replacement with a quality green drink I decided on March 22nd to go PBWF. I’ve lost 30 lbs, feel much better and my journey has just started. Thank you Doug and Rick. Keep it real.
One of my favorite things to do with sprouts (a mix of radish, broccoli, green lentils) is put a good big handful in a blender with some water, whole flax seeds soaked a bit, some oatmeal for body and make a slurry. This gets spread on dehydrator trays and dried on low temp for 24 hrs. This makes a firm (but not crispy) sort of cracker with live enzymes.
Wow! I see how that is possible and how that would come together often however how is the flavor and would this benefit from just a little dash of this or that or the other in terms of flavoring or is it robust enough flavor wise without anything else? I am always looking for the perfect cracker!
Thank you for sharing. This podcast is all about exactly how I have been living for 20+ years. I use an angel juicer every day, sometimes twice per day, and I enjoy growing sprouts and micro greens year round. It can be snowing and blowing and I enjoy fresh food year round. 🇨🇦😎
To Doug: Organic Avenue was the business! I was in love with it. I dragged those bottles from the lower east side to the upper west side every week. It was the beginning of my transition to the clean life all those years ago. I’ve been sprouting for about a year and before that I was buying them until someone told me to be careful of rancidity. I’m still learning how to sprout properly. Getting the book today! Thank you Rich Roll you are golden!
2:03:15 - 2:05:00 cannot be faked. Anyone who is hating on Doug, hasn't been through what he has been through (or anything similar) and should keep their comments in their own mind. Keep pushing Doug.
I have tried sprouting mung beans in the past but was put off by information online saying it could make you sick or easily go bad. I shall be ordering Doug’s book and can’t wait to try it out ☺️ Also I loved the visual setting - the black room, green sprouts, wooden table good lighting. Simple but looks really nice 👌🏻
I started a backyard food forest and organic garden , it takes so much knowledge to grow food and it’s challenging. Sprouts have diversity and anyone can do it with a few simple ingredients. Because it’s easy to package and ship and I think this could be a solution for a lot of world hunger.
I done some jar sprouting and had great success. This has motivated me to do more. Can’t wait to get the book and get even deeper into sprouts. Thank you!!
Rich...your podcasts are the BEST due to your insightful questions and fascinating guests. AND...I'll be buying Doug's book for my husband's Father's Day gift. Thanks for your good work and for your loving heart. Please keep doing what you do. You do it well.
Very cool episode. Me and my partner were inspired enough to start our own broccoli sprouts. We are 4 days in and it is amazing to watch the growth process unfold. Thank you Doug and Rich for another wonderful episode!!
As a vegan bodybuilder, I love the high protein in cooked lentils. I tried eating them raw/sprouted.. they gave me SOOO much gas I almost blasted off to the moon.
You need to take it slower to let your microbiome adapt to whatever you're giving it. After living on low fiber for years it can get a little overexcited about getting a lot.

This podcast episode is a brilliant case study on entrepreneurship and culture. Thank you Doug, and Rich, for sharing all this great info and esp. to Doug for sharing your perspective on the Juicero matter in such a deeply introspective and open way.
One of my most favorite podcasts. I heard genuine humanity, humility and thoughtfulness to all especially those that historically get left behind or not even considered.
the problem was juicero was a solution to a problem that didnt exist. I love how he compares to Uber or calls himself the Steve Jobs of juice. Juicero was a bad idea plain and simple, generating a bunch of plastic waste and was incredibly expensive both the subscription and the machine. He sold VC on the razor blade model but nobody wanted or needed the razor. I do like his sprouting info, unfortunately he cant raise money for sprouts.
Broccoli chopped small + 2 handfuls sprouts + berries = yum. Top with a dressing of frozen banana blended with fresh berries for extra yum. Also, lentil sprouts mixed with kimchi 😍
I love sprouting and fermenting and making my own sourdough bread but I FAIL more than I succeed I’m a plant momma I have over 60 plants and I sometimes get gnat’s, it’s never too bad but I just get really paranoid and end up throwing everything away because I think they will get in ferment or sprouts but I will never give up.

Now I’m filling completely connected and can’t wait to start with the help of Doug’s book. Wishing him all the luck and success!
I love Doug's enthusiasm for the sprouts. I mirror this behaviour with sprouts and krauts, it drives my wife nuts! It happens, I think, when you land on those few beautiful tiny little life-things that are deadly simple, cheap and fix SO much.
Rich, Doug, outstanding chaps outstanding. Observing Doug and seeing his journey of doing less and having less but being so much more encourages myself and partner more that we are in the path, checking out the rat race, owning less stuff and growing daily together. That we are on the right journey right now, started our gap 10 years and living it. Hot springs in Joshua Tree just made the bucket list. ✌🏻 🌱
Well, well. Don't great plant-based minds think alike. When the Covid s**t started to hit the pandemic fan, one of the first things I did (after getting critter supplies, of course) was to stock up on sprouting seeds to ensure I would have fresh greens in case I had to hunker down for an extended time. But now that it's spring, there are plenty of dandelion greens to be had so the pressure is off. Hmm. Maybe a topic for another interview.
Wow great new studio background so high quality! Talking about Professional ! Will learn spouting and eat every day eventually every meal. Thank you rich and doug!!!!!
What is the outcome of the BLM protests? Over 1500 people who died not just during the riots but in the ensuing months from the police being told to withdraw from those neighborhoods after budgets were cut. It's always nice to be on the surface of things because it makes it really easy to look good. You guys are looking great! Good job.
the sprouts do NOT become rancid because the oils are converted in the sprouting process. Bad sprouts will ROT, you will not want to eat them because of smell and mushiness.
One of the reason kale was so popular was 1. it became really cheap ; 2. kale chips; and 3. you could dry it and grind it into a green powder to add to anything. Also I fermented some....it came out really great after a few weeks.
My goodness, I’ve just started sprouting and am now obsessed! I mean, it’s sooooooooooo delicious, I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this my whole life. Truly a game changer. Just ordered this book by Doug, looking forward to reading it.

Such a great interview. I've been looking for sprouting information. Just ordered the book. Taking a lot of good information away from this interview. Thanks to both of you!!!!
I chuckled through most of this podcast. It seemed like satire to me. I am in my 60's and my mother grew us sprouts (as opposed to making them). Just checked Amazon and found 16 books in the first 3 pages of a "sprouting" search. It seems like such old news to me honestly did not realize this is not already considered common knowledge or mainstream. Glad someone picked up on it, good luck with the mission.
Loved the sprout guy and will definitely be buying his book. I’ve tried to sprout in the past but this has given me the impetus to crack on and keep trying until I nail it
I was soaking some chickpeas a while ago but then left them in the fridge covered and drained for 2 days and when I was ready to use them they were sprouted so much I threw them in the compost because I obviously couldn’t make the hummus with them. Mad how fast they grow
I started sprouting about 2 months ago. Then I stumbled upon this video. I am so glad I did. I am going to keep sprouting. AND I bought the book. I really like Doug. He is down to earth and extremely informative and has a great sense of humor too.
I am very out of the loop and had never heard of Juicero. Sounds like a tragic story and I'm sad that this happened to Doug and a seemingly amazing product. I'm trying to get into sprouts, so I bought the book and look forward to reading it. Thanks Doug and best of luck to you in your future adventures.
My broccoli sprout kitchen experiment will now commence and when I get it together I’m going to do it at the office kitchen! Who knew? This is great! #sproutyourself
I have been sprouting, off and on, for almost 50 years. I guess I don’t enjoy them enough to keep it up. And it’s very expensive to buy seeds here, in Europe. They are sold in the same format as seeds for planting, Sounds like you could encourage FOOD KITCHENS to grow sprouts. This will introduce the poor to sprouts as well as being a cheap source of veg, in the us.
Nature is truly designed on the abundance principle. One seed can create a plant that has hundreds of seeds, and each of those seeds can grow hundreds of seeds.... great to see Doug promoting a grow from home food. Juicero offered "instant juice", but the packaging that isn't the food's natural skin, the transport and processing for all the packaging, the processing for the parts for the machine, the transport for the packages of juice are all so wasteful. A true commitment cares for the ecosystem, not just focusing on the individual consumer. We exist as part of an ecosystem and our health is ultimately dependant on the health of that ecosystem. A juicer that increases the amount of packaging required to make juice, ignores the values of people that care about health at its peril.
This is super interesting. Australia is experimenting with Barley sprouts on a huge animal feed/cattle feed commercial production Nutrients for these animals is incredible and it’s using least amount of resources
on the END NOTE:- Sprouting is FUN, and I AM in CONTROL OF WHAT I EAT!!!!! NO pestosites, GMO' Monsanto ETC ETC ALL the nasty things that food is GROWN in and with. Thanks guys!

That we are on the right journey right now, started our gap 10 years and living it. Hot springs in Joshua Tree just made the bucket list. ✌🏻 🌱
what a great interview 👏🏼 so informative. doug is awesome. i have some chia seeds doing their stuff atm. love the centerpiece btw 🌿
Great interview. Love the content, guest, and ideas for my local community. ✌💕
Wow great new studio background so high quality! Talking about Professional ! Will learn spouting and eat every day eventually every meal. Thank you rich and doug!!!!!
OMG... you're looking good Rich!
Yeah, I wish I could grow a beard too. But all I can manage is a football team: 11 on each side :(
FeeZee Try sprouting 😊
Because of all of those antioxidants in his diet. We all can be like Benjamin Buttons.
Love how passionate Doug is about sprouts, thank you
I.have never sprouted but I am.about to make.it a part of.my life 😁🤠
Bought the book. Can't wait to read it! Also just bought 12 mason jars, peas, lentils, broccoli and cabbage seeds. They are soaking now. Excited!
New set up looks good. Sick of hearing about cv19, lockdown and protests though. Break the mold. Freshen things up. Positivity please.
What is the outcome of the BLM protests? Over 1500 people who died not just during the riots but in the ensuing months from the police being told to withdraw from those neighborhoods after budgets were cut. It's always nice to be on the surface of things because it makes it really easy to look good. You guys are looking great! Good job.
Amazing... I started to grow microgreens recently, totally in love and in awe with them 🙏❤️
I'm going to run a mile for every Doug "planting a seed" reference . Will be my first ultra ;)
Commend both men for taking on the challenge of having an open discussion about BLM.
I agree, I was very appreciative that they went there!!
Broccoli
Lentils
Mung
...yes, BLM salads are delicious. Lol
the sprouts do NOT become rancid because the oils are converted in the sprouting process. Bad sprouts will ROT, you will not want to eat them because of smell and mushiness.
just got the book !!! Thank you for the great interview to both of you...
Great content. Sprouting has now become a priority and as an entrepreneur in the plant based category, last 45mins were super insightful. Thanks!
Awesome episode! Thank you Doug and Rich!!
Hi Calliope,
Great comment on Doug's interview. He recently came on my show and I’d love to share it with you!
Here was our episode together: ua-cam.com/video/Wlrn128gBkc/v-deo.html
Cheers,
Andy
Doug seems like such a nice person.
he is- I worked for him!
A scam artist more like
Tannyraw teaches living foods also ... Whole food plant base for 19 years with the last 14 years raw - with an emphasis on living food:-) thank you for the great work you’re doing!
LOL
Loved the sprout guy and will definitely be buying his book. I’ve tried to sprout in the past but this has given me the impetus to crack on and keep trying until I nail it
Thank you for this fantastic talk! Love from Germany
I was soaking some chickpeas a while ago but then left them in the fridge covered and drained for 2 days and when I was ready to use them they were sprouted so much I threw them in the compost because I obviously couldn’t make the hummus with them. Mad how fast they grow
Why couldn't you make hummus with them? There's sprouted chickpea hummus...
Put into plastic bag in deep freeze it holds them
I started sprouting about 2 months ago. Then I stumbled upon this video. I am so glad I did. I am going to keep sprouting. AND I bought the book. I really like Doug. He is down to earth and extremely informative and has a great sense of humor too.
Sprouting seeds keep well Frozen - almost indefinitely.
I'll be looking for the sprout camp this year : ) I hope you will be there Doug.
I just wanted say, you dudes are awesome. Sending some positive mojo.
What a wonderful man. So glad you brought up what happened with Juicero so that he could explain. Very sad.
Thank you Rich for this podcast with Doug I loved it , ordering the book and will enjoy sprouting in a bigger way🙏🏻
I am very out of the loop and had never heard of Juicero. Sounds like a tragic story and I'm sad that this happened to Doug and a seemingly amazing product. I'm trying to get into sprouts, so I bought the book and look forward to reading it. Thanks Doug and best of luck to you in your future adventures.
Mesh mason jar lids and stands are available on Amazon.
@@MochaBarbie7 don't buy from Amazon. Anyway you don't need a stand. Just prop it up against something
My broccoli sprout kitchen experiment will now commence and when I get it together I’m going to do it at the office kitchen! Who knew? This is great! #sproutyourself
I love how they love each other.
Awesome video! Love his book! ❤
Australia is experimenting with Barley sprouts on a huge animal feed/cattle feed commercial production
Nutrients for these animals is incredible and it’s using least amount of resources
Looking forward to getting my book. Thank you and I can't wait to start!
on the END NOTE:- Sprouting is FUN, and I AM in CONTROL OF WHAT I EAT!!!!! NO pestosites, GMO' Monsanto ETC ETC ALL the nasty things that food is GROWN in and with. Thanks guys!
AMazing... thank you. 💕
Why isn't this book available on audible?
its cool to see a natural channel actually respecting this virus for the threat it is! new to this channel I will definately be subscribing!
How do you feel about it now ? There was much disinformation
It is ALWAYS about the money until you can detach from loving it....
Where’s the best place to source different seeds to sprout? Amazon??
No, only if you want to support sedition
