    Back in 2000-2001 my dad and I were walking in one of his fields and he grabbed a handful of soil and let it filter through his fingers. He said with sadness "The soil is dead. It has no life in it." He said he knew it came from his switching from animal husbandry/animal manure for fertilizer and natural weed control methods to cash cropping with the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. I said he could reverse it by allowing the fields to lay fallow with alfalfa or a cover crop, one field at a time, that would nourish the soil back to life. He said he needed the money from the cash crop, and couldn't do that. It wasn't true. He did not need the money. I know that for a fact. In other words, he chose not to do the right thing. At the time he was suffering with symptoms of lymphedema, which he died of a few years later. He sprayed his fields with no protection for skin or lungs. My brother took over the farm, with the same M.O. I don't know the current owner. My father was a horse and buggy Mennonite, in Pa. At the time only a very few Mennonites were starting to farm organically, and they were seen as extreme oddballs. Many people have these delusions about the Mennonite and Amish being more natural and into healthier living.

    • @galespressos
      @galespressos Рік тому +5

      This was sad to read but good too share for people to think about. Aren’t the Amish particular about using more natural methods? When I was young we used to go out as children and play in the corn fields when organic was normal and usual for many small farms. Now people actually have to wear hazmat suits to go in the fields. Makes a person hesitant to eat anything from the farms now.

    • @crow4130
      @crow4130 Рік тому +2

      @@galespressos Yes the Amish reside heavily in KY and they are mostly natural. They will bake with white sugar and purchase grains and flours from stores just like everyone else. They won’t use electricity, own a car or have running water. They utilize farm animals to power things like saw milling , baking in ovens ,etc… I’m uncertain about gmo , I know they harvest their own seeds out of crops that have been in their families for many years.

    • @crow4130
      @crow4130 Рік тому +2

      @@galespressos well we do have to eat and animals are farmed in just as unhealthy ways such as growth hormone injections, antibiotics, steroids, etc…those are also contained in milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc.., so not just the animals. We have no choice but to grow our own food at the very least .

    01:39:50 Death is a massive expansion of consciousness, of reality, of awareness and of love. I sat with my mom as she died last October. This is so true. I cannot explain it. Though it is a massive loss, it is also an expansion as Zach explains. Right before the doctor made her comfortable, she looked at me, smiling, with complete love and acceptance. Similar to what I experienced on the birth of my daughter. No words passed between us, as no words were needed. I knew in that moment all was right in the universe, and I trusted her into the arms from where she came. She was going to be ok. I am going to be ok. Time stopped. The universe expanded. All things became one. Zach's words were so good. If you listen no nothing else, listed from this point to the end.

      Thanks for sharing. Concerned as being blocked from being with my mother in her severe health and accident challenges, then Alzheimer’s care, and maybe later she passes (though Alzheimer’s seems a kind of in and out passage). I’m in anguish. Was dealing with two cancers and financial challenges, after consequences, and needed/need help to be there and needed before people to hear me that there a problem and help needed.trying to resign self after exhaustive years of efforts that I won’t be able to get help or be able to arrange myself to be back for her in life or in passing. Trying to be focused that God is there for the transition and in some way we can meet in spirit. I’m still in anguish that no one would listen and people who could help were blocked or didn’t believe it was needed. So all I can do is take shelter and comfort in this being all temporary and we transition and can meet in after life. Would rather to have been able and to be able to meet now though. Anyway, this has been some comfort.

      It's hard to listen to what is being said but to know that there are some courageous farmers who want to remedy the damage done by believing in the lies of corporations like Monsanto/Bayer. The use of chemicals can always be manipulated from doing good (unclogging drains) to affecting the water system and people's health. Think about that farmer whose clothes were drenched in chemicals and his child was born without the right and left sides of his brain not communicating. That's on the conscious of those unconscious CEOs who factor in law suits in their profit margin. I know this because I was interviewed for a job at Monsanto. I was a legal secretary and they wanted the person hired to support their legal team. I said, I don't think I want to do this. You don't always know to do the right thing in a given moment but you have the choice to rethink it after you can see the damage that is being done on all levels affecting the lives of those using these products and those living in surrounding areas.

    This was hands down-the most truthful and educational conversation I have ever listened to. Definitely not what I expected but most certainly what I needed and wanted to hear. I have a son who is on the spectrum (Asperger's) and a daughter with an endocrine/pituitary disorder. I have felt like a canary in the coal mine for years (albeit the crazy one). Sitting in waiting rooms filled with children and adults with chronic diseases; working for speech therapists and seeing children (from mainly the higher end of the socioeconomic spectrum) with multiple disorders, including speech related ones. How the allopathic system of medical care is in complete denial regarding the effects food choice (watching parents and children eat chips and drink coke in the waiting area of an endocrinologist's office), food sources, and the environment have on the human body, combined with their nepotistic partnership with pharmaceutical companies. I don't feel vindicated, I don't feel right...I feel so thankful for both Rich and Dr. Bush for this profound, griefful and ultimately hopeful, conversation. Beautiful!

    I took a river cruise last October, and my husband, who had cancer and was terminal, had a hard time getting to our dinner table, which we had found to seat 8 but only 6 were there. As I sat down, I told one of the men that my husband had cancer and that was why he was so slow. He pointed out 4 out of the 6 people at our table had had cancer! They were farmers from Alabama. Fortunately, I sat next to one of the wives (it's always better to approach the wife), who had had a tumor the size of a volleyball inside her removed, and when I heard all this, I said to her, "I can't help but think that all these chemicals we are exposing ourselves to are causing all this cancer. We live in an agricultural area, too." And she said she agreed completely. That led to my opportunity to tell her about regenerative agriculture, which she had never heard of, but I told here some of what I knew, which wasn't a lot since I was new to the concept myself, but it got her interested, and she said she'd look into it. We're living in California so spreading these ideas all over the country is possible even when you live in a far west state.

It really makes me lose faith in society when we forego the practical in exchange for the vain.

    Brilliant podcast. Zach Bush makes a compelling case for all farming to become organic, no spraying the crops with chemicals, no use of genetically modified plants, no tilling the soil which kills the earth worms which are necessary for fertile growth on the land. Absolutely amazing information from Zach as usual. I've watched almost all his videos and I've never been disappointed! He is on the one hand so absolutely brilliant and on the other hand very humble.

    So grateful for this podcast and the platform you have created to bring this forward Rich. Zach Bush is one of the most articulate people I have heard on the way forward, bringing a fiercely compassionate eulogy to the end of current paradigm we find ourselves in. His weaving together of holistic medical science, regenerative soil science, the challenges of disentangling from an outdated mega corporate business system, existential loneliness from separating ourselves, unified awakening at end of life experience, human cosmological purpose, and planetary history is a bridge to the new paradigm. Looking forward to sharing all the ways we can build this bridge.

    Wow. That ending dissertation as you said Rich was just mind-blowing. Had chills all through it. That he would get so honest about his patients' experiences and then the way he brought it back around to all of us. Unbelievable. I'm an American living in Taiwan and I've just googled Taiwan's usage of glyphosate. It's quite high! Because of that case in the US about the groundskeeper though, Taiwan has discouraged/limited the use but not banned it! This cements my decision to be more vigilant about buying 100% organic produce. Yikes! I've just signed up for the Farmer's Footprint newsletter and will begin some dialogs with some of my American friends that are farmers in the Midwest. Compelling podcast to say the least. Hands down to you Rich for the podcast and to Zach Bush for his incredible witness and work on this issue!

    A major problem with glyphosate is that in domestic use the home gardener has no financial constraint on overuse, whereas the commercial farmer wants to keep costs at a minimum.
    Before I recognised the importance of organic growing, I really went wild in my war on natural organisms - except worms. At 30, about ten years after going organic, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's. following conventional hospital treatment I consulted a dietary therapist/homoeopath: As a result, at 74 I'm now completely free from any medication and don't get ill. We can all move into greater alignment with what our microbiome needs, and improve our health and well-being to some extent regardless of our starting point in life.

Even what we have called cancer is our own cells doing the best they can to preserve life when they are too damaged to go on. Once they know they're not alone, they commit cell suicide (apoptosis) and stem cells can come in to support new healthy cells. Per Doc Zach.

      I have a suggestion also there’s a plant called wild lettuce or prickly lettuce, formally lactuca virosa or lactuca seriola that grows as a volunteer (aka weed) and it’s a natural analgesic painkiller. I have had people with sciatica, knee pain, headaches, and babies crying with teething pain get instant pain relief just by putting some of the sap of the plant on the palm of their hand. I originally learned about it from a book called the lost Ways which is sometimes advertised on UA-cam and then I discovered that I had the plant in my garden that was growing naturally and I tested it out and it really works and it’s completely safe and non-toxic just like lettuce because it’s related to lettuce - it’s in the same family. So I thought I just throw that idea out there as a suggestion for you and also sending a prayer and a hug

    I resonated strongly with the closing statement in this podcast, that we are as wondrous, innocent children, spiritual beings playing at physical expression and making a big mess from time to time, but just learning to know and appreciate the outrageous miracle of being human. And our grand failures will pale in the light of our greater becoming. (Please excuse if this restatement of the closing statement seems over the top, I’m from southern California and lean new-agey and cannot help myself).
    I also discussed the various challenges outlined by Dr. Bush with my 25 year old son and to my surprise he was already thinking ahead - he’s planning to move away from the California coast and he’s become a dedicated recycler and he shops for organic and has adopted other progressive habits. Exceptional conversation. Thank you, Rich Roll, thank you Dr. Bush... your work is so important. The really wonderful thing is that we can each participate on an everyday basis by simply buying good food from regenerative farmers and using it to keep our selves healthy and lowering healthcare costs. What beautiful simplicity: taking care of ourselves takes care of everything else.

      It's so obvious that we would live best in a symbiotic relationship with the Earth. Why did we ever think otherwise?

    This is just an amazing Podcast. Thank you Richard and Zach. I find myself wondering why we aren't, as a world, charging Monsanto and Bayer with Crimes Against Humanity for how they have disrupted our human health worldwide. Makes me wish I was a lawyer.

    I do not rely on healthcare. I inform myself and use natural products to compensate the lack of minerals, vitamins and poisons in air and soil. So far so good at 77. I am still working at a school and keep informing teachers about these facts, that are very familiar to me.

And Zach is positively a wizard indeed, way to orchestrate one of the most outstanding and impactful conversations I have ever had the privilege of listening to, hats off to both of you! I have to laugh at the thumbs down folks, say what?! Wouldn't it be impossible to honestly feel that way? The truth always rises to the top.

    The more I learn about regenerative agriculture, the more important it seems to be as a solution to most of the problems humanity faces today. I can't become a farmer myself, but I can buy products put out by farms that use these great methods that work with nature. I recommend it. I've noticed some new products these days. For example, Trader Joe's now has milk from grass-fed cows. It's delicious, too! :) And my local supermarket has eggs from pasture-raised chickens. They're delicious, too! Better products that taste better and are better for you. It's worth the extra you have to pay, and eventually, I think the prices will go down as there's more and more farms operating this way.

      Duke Steele, um, no. There are lots of videos that show how this works, which you need to avail yourself of if you don’t want to embarrass yourself. Even small farms can make a living using these natural eco friendly methods that restore the soil and leave it in better condition for now and the future.

    I could not love this more. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve listened to both of his Rich Roll podcast visits. I listen to everything I can find of Dr. Zach Bush which introduced me to Rich Roll whom I’m also now enjoying. (and, Chris Hedges, Dr. Cornel West, among many many others). When everything starts feeling so dismal and bleak it is refreshing and empowering to “name it” and know that there is some hope... Thank you both.

    We were warned of the plan, but we all can make a difference.....Henry Kissinger: “Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people.” ....not if we each do our part in making a difference and teach those coming behind us. We need to share it with everyone. Love and fearless living all.
