When I decided it was time to invest in a backup, handheld VHF Comm radio for my flight bag, I defaulted to the fanciest, Yaesu model, with GPS and VOR navigation. The main reason being, I wanted memory sets with text so I could preset all frequencies for my base airport with logical text names. I wish I had just bought this one and saved $$$. I’ll never use those additional features. Having the headset jacks integrated, rather than cabled dongles, is far more important than text based memories.
I bought this one because I just wanted a com incase I had some kind of issue. I use it alot on ground to get clearances and weather. I dont need any of the other features. Theres an upgraded one now, but in the time ive had this one it still works perfect. The headset jacks are really nice! When you need it quickly, it's easy to plug in instead of looking for some adapter.
@@ChiliStyles After your review, which I appreciate, I am going to get one of these to carry as a backup in my Navion, but also will use it in my WWI Se5a replica as well-
I just got one with a magnetic mount and longer antenna to use on ground to have better signal when getting info during preflight or just to listen in my vehicle
Question, this might be a dumb question but I'm getting into the hobby of listening to air traffic control so I don't have to go to live ATC every time I want to listen to planes. The frequencies go from 118.600 up to 126.800. Would I be able to listen to them on this radio? thanks.
I just mine yesterday; I’m not receiving any communication while I’m on the ground, granted I was about 10 miles to the west of a class C but a little worried mine is defective.
The range isn’t the best with the stock antenna unless you’re on ground at the airport. I have a bigger antenna if I take it for a back up radio. Other than that I use it mostly on the ground at or really close to the airport

I use mine all the time. Very user friendly.

Good video and it looks like the radio have good value to. Thank you.
100 percent worth the purchase for me
How is the squelch? I plan to use it in a noisy champ
its very good and has alot of adjustability. I haven't used it in anything open but it doesn't break as easy as id think.
Honest guy review…. I love it. Just ordered mine. How long did the regular battery last??
Regular AA batteries in the adapter last 10 hours of use easy. I never had them die on me. I got the optional rechargeable one and it is worth it.
You mentioned that you had an external Antenna adapter? What adapter do you have ? What is needed to use as

Thanks, good review...
No problem!

Yes. However it is also a 2 way radio. Not just a scanner

not sure about that, maybe a headset splitter but you'll still get one ptt. it does not have any intercom function
