@97channel It was all to do with production space. No. 73 had a permanent set for the duration of its run, this meant for 6 months of the year TVS's largest studio was booked out, making it more difficult for them to fit other productions in. The original idea was to take No. 73 down the soap route with a large outdoor set, somewhere along the line we ended up with a wild west theme park and the show just died instantly.

TVS was more interested in Catchphrase by that point. Oh and TVS killed 7T3 off because the new set was too expensive to maintain.

@pipoo1 Thanks for explaining that. Now it makes sense. I think that any change to it was going to be fatal, but the 7T3 wild west theme really did the job in one clean hit. I guess that the show would be nearing an end point anyway, and a move towards the Motormouth type of generic magazine format was inevitable, given what the BBC were doing with Going Live. But it's a shame that such a legendary show ended in such a tangled mess.

Is it true Cutting Crew was on this show in '86? Would love to see it?

Anyone have the episode where Hamilton Dent was being spoon fed by his mother?

It might have been the one that had Roger Taylor and his band The Cross.
Anyone have the full version of it?

Exactly why did it have such a drastic reformat half way through the season? It was hugely confusing to us 80's kids who'd gotten used to the good old 73.
The mixed blessing, I suppose, was that Motormouth emerged from its ashes. Forget Going Live, Motormouth was the business.

Because TVS needed the set to film Catchphrase. Also Sandi Toksvig left after Series 6. They knew it too as referenced with the house literally falling apart in universe.
