In my memories this was always a manic zoo-style format but lovely to see the gentle pace of this show - and so educational. Thanks for uploading I love seeing the bits in the break as well
Simply...thank you for sharing these immeasurably priceless No73 program episodes. "come on Eileen"
Thanks so much for sharing these episodes! No. 73 was my favourite show as a kid and was only on the cusp of memory, so to see it again is fantastic! It's also great to see the 'behind the scenes' clips at the ad breaks.
I used to watch this, one of the Saturday morning tv shows for kids.
Come on Eilleen and the first appearance of Kim Goody on the show. What more could anyone ask for? Those two sound poets are a bit much for this early in the morning! haha.
"Did I mention that Kim Goody was lovely? Well, she was." -Nick Wilton (Tony Deal)
Dexys playing two songs - "Come on Eileen", which had spent a few weeks rising up the charts, jumping from No. 31 to No. 9 the day after this episode was broadcast. It would end up going to No. 1 and staying there throughout most of August 1982.
The other song performed at the end, "The Celtic Soul Brothers (More, Please, Thank You)", originally stalled at No. 45 back in March, but a re-release in March 1983 would see it peak at No. 20 the following month.
And according to Nick "Tony Deal" Wilton, Dexys continued playing for a good 10 minutes after the show went off the air.
@@antster1983What songs did they play afterwards? I’m assuming they wouldn’t play much of their popular songs without the brass section.
@@abraham_benson_official I don't think they played anything afterwards. They'd gone off air, so what would be the point?
@@antster1983So you're saying Nick Wilton was mistaken?
@@paulmorris2825 D'oh! I completely forgot I posted that up top! 🤦 No, Nick's right, I'm wrong.
And here is Tony Wilton making me eat my words:
"My best memories are Dexy’s Midnight Runners performing “Celtic Soul Brothers” at the end of the programme in the cellar and playing on for about 5 minutes after we went off air - and hosting the Sandwich Quiz one week when Sandi was off (with a lot of Bruce Forsythisms). Did I mention that Kim Goody was lovely? Well, she was."
Sandi Toksvig! From QI in the UK
Another in the great list of Saturday morning kids tv.
Hadn't seen those Dexy's performance before, and they're fantastic. In fact I haven't seen many live performances of Come On Eileen before.
6:48 Neil Buchanon's best chat-up line.
amazing dexys performance
The only thing wrong with this is that Dexy's Midnight Runners should only ever appear in The Young Ones. It's the law.
13:13 Dexy’s Midnight Runners performance.
The ‘sound poetry’ sounds like having a stroke
What the flippin eck is that on Neils head!?!?!
Didn't much get this show at the time it went out. Looking back on it now, I still much don't.
Unfortunately for me, this replaced Tiswas. And it just didn’t cut it for me……….
