"Opp Shop!" Loooong time no hear. There was an Opportunity Shop on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, MD which I believe was owned/run as a Christian ministry (I can't recall the denomination). When I discovered the men's (suit) vests, I thought I'd died and gone to fashion heaven. I also bought some lovely lightweight summer blouses of white cotton and linen blend. @@DrLoriV I love the bins. Haven't been since January 2020. Hope i can go again soon but have heard covid compliance is nonexistent (youtube "the bin pickers" description of their Indy bins re-opening day), and i must not take chances. I found a 70s tourist brochure of Beirut, Lebanon at the bins in perfect condition. It had a foldout map of the city streets, and pool or beach lounging posh tourists on the front (bikinis). A different time! The Paris of the Middle East. The brochure sold overnight for $35 to a middle eastern man in Kentucky and I felt he had a nostalgic or sad story, but to respect his privacy I didn't ask. You are so nice in NZ too! I have a great story too long to share all the details here where someone helped me out in a big way when I was visiting NZ. It was for a casting call back in the States and I needed high speed internet for the audition.
Hi Dr Lori! Love these videos. I'm a big thrift store shopper, i like to look for books to use in my art and also i am a collector of California pottery, as i am a born and bred California girl. I've come across many many olds books and try to follow your rules about children books, and cook books, being that those are what collectors value. My question is, what do you look for when finding old children's and cook books? First editions i understand, but are there some that are more valuable than others? Thank you
I recognized that Tim Yanke right off. I love his work. I've only ever seen his work at another love of mine - cruising! His work is very popular with cruise ship art auctions. I thought he was exclusive with them. Where do you send people to find the art you appraise? Is it a particular website? Also, could you do an episode on cruise ship art auctions?
Good suggestion about cruise ship auctions. I actually talk about many pieces in my videos when people bring me pieces they bought at sea. Can you please clarify your question "Where do you send people to find the art you appraise?" I don't exactly follow. Thanks
@@DrLoriV I love art but galleries are sometimes intimidating and usually too upmarket for me. I think they feel like car lots. I like the secondary markets better so I'm guess I'm looking for the outlets you tell people to use for resale like the gentleman with the Yanke. Are the always online? Is there a particular type of store or auction?
@@mrsthad Thanks for clarifying. Not one answer, depends on the piece. I understand your comfort level but if a particular location meant thousands of more dollars in your pocket, may be you overcome your fears :)
I'm a fanof the live audience shows. Somewhere is an gal that won't wear jewelry or some guy that did something dumb and here comes Dr. Lori to point it out. Hilarious. Ok. I learned something too.
Hi Dr Lori, I have just discovered your videos and wanted to touch base. Really enjoy the content. A new subscriber here. Alison (The China Repair Studio).❤
Good question for my next Ask Dr. Lori LIVE video. Attend an ask it there so I can go into details for everyone and follow up if you have other questions.
I wanted to ask Dr. Lori a question about things I bought over the years while we were over seas in Army. I don't know if sending pictures to her would help. What should I do?
Thank you for your service! You can send me photos using my website or schedule a video call with me to show me your things so I can tell you what you have.
Easy, I've seen it for decades. Someone is doing a clean out to flip a property or emptying grandma's house and they don't care to find out or they think a piece is ugly. It's still happening so you all can find it!
@@DrLoriV Its so true. My mother almost sent a pair of antique sterling sliver candlesticks to the thrift store last week cause she didn't like the style. If she hadn't sent me photos asking me if I wanted them, they would have been put in the donate box. I don't understand why people throw out original art & precious metals. It baffles me, but I'll capitalize on it.
Unfortunately I think there's highly unlikely to be any undiscovered Rembrandts in Australia. Ha, funny this as I saw a small card to at an op shop that's obviously new of some Rembrandt print.
I am considering getting a subscription now. I started buying and selling collectibles 18 months ago. I am a bit successful. The money I get from online auctions helps towards augment my income and send my daughter to college. Greetings from 🇨🇭.
Do you have one? I have to see it to verify what you really have. There are many different types of prints so I have to see it. You can send me pics or show me during a video call.
I have tons on this stuff. The competition is fierce for selling right now. I could t even sell a ms Beasley doll. I did sell a Cartier notebook for about 50$. High end items will sell, but not for much.

@@DrLoriV Thousands is a very motivating word!
I'm a fanof the live audience shows. Somewhere is an gal that won't wear jewelry or some guy that did something dumb and here comes Dr. Lori to point it out. Hilarious. Ok. I learned something too.
Funny you say that :)
@@DrLoriV Those vids crack me up. Then there are the times when you ask if they looked it up. Any research? Doh!
My favorite is still the video with the beer...that was hilarious.
@@changedforgood5761 That was fun! Please share the link with friends on social media so they can enjoy it too!
So, okay I have to ask. What is the little pin your wearing and where'd you get it? Shows up on that red very nicely. Blessings
It's sterling silver and a gift from my sister. Sorry don't know where she got it :)
Hi Dr Lori, I have just discovered your videos and wanted to touch base. Really enjoy the content. A new subscriber here. Alison (The China Repair Studio).❤
Welcome! Thanks for subbing.
"donut" rim on the bottom of a plate--I have heard you mention to look for this several times...what exactly does it mean? Thank!
Good question for my next Ask Dr. Lori LIVE video. Attend an ask it there so I can go into details for everyone and follow up if you have other questions.
OMG., 10.000.00 I can’t believe it. I need to go to estate sales more often.
Online too!
Is there purple bakelite?
You can find bakelite in all colors
I wanted to ask Dr. Lori a question about things I bought over the years while we were over seas in Army. I don't know if sending pictures to her would help. What should I do?
Thank you for your service! You can send me photos using my website or schedule a video call with me to show me your things so I can tell you what you have.
Hello ma'am.. Good day. Can you please help me to identify the segnature painting!?
I look at photos to identify paintings. You can send them to me using a form on my website
Don’t you wonder how in the world these items get to the “op shop”?
@@weirdscience6820 You can find anything, anywhere!
Are signed Sara Moon prints worth anything too? Thanks
Do you have one? I have to see it to verify what you really have. There are many different types of prints so I have to see it. You can send me pics or show me during a video call.
Thanks. I'll see how I can send or talk to you about it. I do think that the signature is printed and not actually signed By the real person.
I have plenty of them and in all different sizes.
@@genevievevanrooyen4255 Ok, that's why I have to see them. And signatures aren't everything.
Greetings from 🇨🇭.
Great information
Glad it was helpful! Please share the link to the vid with friends on social media so they can learn too!
Lori you truly are smart 🤓
I have tons on this stuff. The competition is fierce for selling right now. I could t even sell a ms Beasley doll. I did sell a Cartier notebook for about 50$. High end items will sell, but not for much.
You have to know what venues are best for particular pieces :) I help a lot of resellers make money!
Dr Lori; used to see you on Auction Kings;...have only an antenna and no internet; although I Was Not born under a rock, when it comes to UA-cam or google in general; I’m For sure behind my time. 😝. HOWEVER; I’d really like to know how better to Pay for your expert knowledge...?? I Appreciate You So Much ALready!!
Yes we had fun on that show which can still be seen around the world! Feel free to check out my website. I can help you by looking at photos or we can chat and you can show me pieces during a video call.
Dr.Lori I found this at the goodwill store about 25 years ago. I was wondering what you thoughts were on it? I paid $1.00 for it. What's it worth?
I can help, but need to see your find. Can you send me photos using a form on my website?
