Struggle Is Necessary

  • It may sound counterintuitive, but choosing the harder path may make our life easier. Here’s why:
When caterpillars go into their cocoons for hibernation, they struggle against the barrier of the cocoon for months on end, trying to get out. It’s only when their wings have developed and they’re strong enough to fly that they are able to break free and escape. If a caterpillar were to somehow get set free from its cocoon before it was strong enough to escape on its own, it wouldn’t be able to fly, and would eventually die.
The same is true in a way for us. When we face struggles in life, they have great potential to make us stronger. Not only do hard things make us stronger, but they prepare us more for harder temptations, trials, and suffering in the future. In a way, we are made more able to handle future struggles because of the little hard choices we make daily.
Some struggles are greater than others, and maybe there are some things that you are constantly trying to avoid because they are so hard for you to do. But nevertheless, these are the struggles that you are faced with. These are the things God wants to make you stronger through. Because he knows what you need to continue on your path, and he knows that these struggles are not only going to make you stronger but will intensify the victories he has prepared for you. There are some things that come from struggle that are so much more glorious than a scare-free life, and the Lord is ready to show you what triumphs he has in store for you.

I had a very powerful lust and drugs demon for 28 years. I fought very hard for all those years and sometimes, it really make me want to quit. But one day, the catholic french poet (De Lamartine) that i love, i asked him to go get God's deliverance grace ; he dit it. I had a very strong dream that i saw my body cut and open then, i saw my ribs and felt that a REALLY STRONG energy got out of me. Then, i looked up and saw a charcoal dark dragon snake. I was really shocked, it was like a wake dream. But, it"s only a few weeks after that i understood that i was delivered, no more temptation, only bad habits that need to be eliminate. Hope this share will help you to fight and win your fight ! I Chastety is one of the hardest virtue to get in our days. I will pray for you tonight Robert. Paix, force et continence à toi.

@@MrMusique1970 I wish lust was my core sin sometimes. I struggle very much with vanity, pride, envy, laziness, harboring resentment, judging others, self righteousness, and being nosy. My life would be so much easier if I weren't competing and comparing myself with others. At least lust makes you temporarily happy. Envy makes you bitter and miserable. I don't know why I am too prideful to ask for help.

3 weeks ago my husband flew out to be with his grandmother and mom. His grandmother was dying of Covid (she died on Dec. 3rd). I was left with my 3 kids alone while working full time. I had never been left alone with them for more than a couple of days and certainly never while working. I was tempted to end each night with a big glass of wine and mindless TV, but I knew God wanted me to live in the struggle. I spent each night in prayer for my husband and his family. His grandmother died a beautiful death at home surrounded by family. She died on the final Hail Mary of the rosary, and moments after her death Salve Regina came on the CD player (no one was near it or touched it). Before dying, she told everyone she saw heaven and angels. She was a devout woman with a great devotion to our Lady. Because I chose to live in the struggle, I got to suffer with my family, but I also got to experience it, and oh how beautiful it was.

      @forlife84 3 роки тому +11

@@Ingrid0410 Catholic teaching doesn't require the women to be stay at home moms and the dads to work. My husband does a great job with our kids, and I have been working in my career for 15 years so I can make a lot more $ than him and have better benefits. Our family would not be able to live without my income. We'd have to either both work or have just me work. It's been a huge sacrifice for both of us, and I don't see how that's any of your business. Every family works differently, has different needs, etc. We provide really well for our children (I don't mean materially...I don't make that much money), but we provide a nurturing home, prayer is central in our family life, and this works for us.

    • @forlife84

Also, I don't think I'm any less of a mom just because I work. I am very present to my children. I read to them every day, pray with them, do all bath times, all bedtimes, and I support my husband in homeschooling our kindergartner. It's very hurtful to make me feel like I'm not being a mom just because I work. You have no idea what someone else's life is. You may have a lot of experience, but it's not MY experience.

I am a Roman Catholic my entire life. Now, after 45 years, I say to you, i remain a Roman Catholic because of its purist doctrine.
I feel the term "religion" refers "man".
When the smoke clears, it is just you and the message the "Almighty" has left you. But being that we, individually, do not have all the answers....that we need inspiration, comfort....and sometimes even some educating (to combat ignorance).....its a fact we cant complete and make this journey alone. This is one of the reasons why i continue to attend church. Its like going to haveva sit down with the "coach". But most of all, again, speaking for myself......i want to be close to God's presence....as a Catholic.....to the Eucharist.
You can always pray in your home, read scripture on your own....but regardless of being Christian, Jewish, Muslim, whatever.....somehow.....you always feel that "presence" stronger in your place of worship.
My friend, you have been called on your "search" for your life.....you dont have to go it alone.

Father Mike, I don't quite understand how you deliver these messages in the PERFECT times. I LOVE your videos. God bless you and thank you for coming into my life at my lowest point... You've given me SO much faith and clarity towards life in the last few weeks. Building my relationship with God, and now this video, just affirms the path I'm currently on: to heal and to do God's work. Thank you again. You're absolutely amazing.

Crying real hard right now since I was almost at the last part. My dad who is very close to me is cheating on my mom and its affecting me very badly. A few weeks ago I've been feeling like something will go wrong and I prayed to Jesus to be gentle with me. Six days ago I was the one who caught my dad talking with some other woman. All my life I looked at him like he was this ideal father yet he did not just lie to my mom, but to me and my siblings anyway too. I'm trying my very best to stay strong right now and I'm planning to seek some counseling soon to be able to process what I just encountered. Pray for me and my family, please. And thank you father for this wonderful video. Most of the time because of how easily overwhelmed I am with changes and struggles, I keep forgetting about whats good about it and what God is actually doing for me.

I think something important to be in conjunction with struggle however is joy. Not to say you always have to be happy through struggle, but to understand that life also has joy and not all is toil. Be cognizant in your life of joy amidst struggle. Practice gratitude and hope through struggle

I'm finding my way back to God, but let me tell you.
I went to Afghanistan back in 2009. I was part of a Mech Inf kompany where I fuctioned as Rifleman and combat medic in my squad. I went as a Christian (protestant) and my callsign was Jesus because I was the only beliver. When I came home it was as an atheist. The things I was part of in Afghanistan turned everything around, and I was angry with God, felt like he had left me alone.
I now suffer from PTSD and can't work full time. The last ten years have been filled with anger, depression, anxiaty, problems with guilt, shame, memory, concentration and I could go on.
Before that I grew up with an abussive farther who drank and a little over a year ago I found out I have a small tumor in my brain.
What I am saying, it's really hard to find any kind a meaning in a life like that. Some times I feel a bit like I'm in the book of Job.

God Bless you brother! You’ve been through a lot, but God never abandoned you. No burden is too heavy to carry if you allow Jesus to carry it for you. Your really brave not only go through your challenges and struggles, but to also share this. Don’t give up. These challenges will only make you stronger, and allow the suffering as a way for God to refine and improve you. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

We need to struggle because this is what being human is all about. What I have learned this year is that with very cross we are given, He is with us and there's always a victory. Let us take the pen out of the evil one's hand and let's put it in God's hands. Thanks Fr. Mike for this and for speaking at this year's Rise Up conference at Catholic Christian Outreach in Canada 😄🙏.

An important person in my life right now is struggling. I searched for ways on what I can do to at least ease the pain then I came across with this video. For now this video is not for me but for this special person. It helped me realize that, indeed, maybe he needed to go through these afflictions to help strengthen him. I also got reminded to have faith because God is already taking care of him, and I just need to continue to pray and trust in the Lord. For all you folks out there, always know that when there's life there's sill hope. Surrender everything that is out of your control to the Lord, and surely you've made room for the Holy spirit to work in your lives. Shalom 🕊🙏

I think my main struggles are self inflicted. Change is often difficult. It can frustrate me that I'm imperfect yet everyone else is imperfect too. I want to grow in maturity 2021. It can be very uncomfortable to detach yourself from the world. I so love the saints for fighting to conquer their sins. Saints give me hope. I want to believe holiness is possible. If I truly want to conquer my sins and imperfections I must accept being uncomfortable during the process. It is so easy to fall back into bad habits. Saint Rose of Lima is a beautiful saint that detached herself from the world. I love her very much.

Amen to you Father Mike! This just popped up as I WFH complaining in my head about the strings of customers calling in and being rude and entitled to me today, and it is soooooo true; the struggle is real lol!! It's good that God will use even Ascension UA-cam Subscriptions Notification pop up's to remind me that I need to humble myself and remember I am just as bad as the next "customer" that I am complaining about. I fight myself and cause my own struggles to increase when I don't listen to God, or at least let him build my character through struggle and correction. Especially when I have been raised in the mindset: "The customer is always right!" Even when that's not true!! How do you teach a whole entitled society of people to be a "Customer that is wrong sometimes ?!?!" Truly only, God can do this. I know he is still teaching me to be a "wrong customer" even as I post this comment; you know what? I need it! Thanks, Father Mike God is Good! I have not watched this video yet and if this post is totally off base, my apologies upfront. I did not mean to assume anything I just needed to blow off some steam I guess. 🕊💯 Pray fo me.

So true, Fr. Mike. This says it to so many levels in our lives. In few examples, it's about how we teach our kids, how we deal with society, how we prep our food, how we learn to ride a bike, swim, etc., and lots more that I can name a long list, but I'll stop here. I think we're on the page now.
Dealing with various type of struggles are the necessity in our lives in order to be trained/better at something and furthermore, to prep us to be ready for the upcoming, big tests for our endurance before we can appreciate the glory of God and Heaven itself, but only under His Grace and Mercy to get us there.
That's because with these ingredients (struggles, endurance, perseverance) are set in place, it will create the secret ingredient called Faith, which is the main key ingredient that may attracts God's Grace and Mercy, that may hopefully, provide us the ticket to Heaven. Don't wanna sound like a hypocrite again, but I do enjoy the convenience of various simple things in life, but then in truth, it really hurts us, not letting our body to struggle a bit to get what we want/need, to train us for the real big tests down the road, so then one day, we'll be slammed by the unexpected events and not knowing how to get back up again to finish the race/fight that we've been assigned here for.

This topic is crazy! I just talked with my sister (single mother of a daughter) about “Joyful Struggles” at dinner a few hours ago. She asked me if anything would have happened, hypothetically, if I’d take her daughter in and raise her like my own.
“Of course! Without a doubt, in a heartbeat.”
“Really? Do you know what that entails? You have to pay everything by yourself. Her dad doesn’t pay for anything.”
“Still, yes. I’d love to have that joyful struggle!”

Father Mike, I just wanted to say that your videos and Father Mark goring’s videos have enhanced my spiritual life so much. I grew up catholic and have always attended mass semi-consistently, however it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I became closer with God, Jesus and Mary. I also started praying the rosary daily and I have noticed a huge change in my life and my family’s life and I went to confession after 10 years of not going. My grandchildren sometimes pray with me. I now have a personal relationship with God, Jesus and Mary. Thank you father and God bless you.

Father Mike, you have touched on so many things over the videos I've watched. Of course what you're reminding me of is that everything you've touched on is common to so many people. But in this particular case, I have been carrying a load and struggling for many years with a couple of issues where now that I've heard this message, understand that God only throws at you what you can handle. And the struggle is real, but now I realize that I may not achieve everything, but God is building character and empathy in me through my struggles. Thank you for your great videos.
