- Trellising my last planting of cucumbers for the season. These plants were sprawling onto the lawn so it was the right time to lift them off the ground to prevent mildew spreading through the crop
Thank you for this! 🌱🌱🌱🫶🏽
I will have to try this next year. Mine are out of control. I didn't know what I was getting myself into! 😅
Definitely will help keep the plants under control
Thanks’ love this!
Nice work champion
We didn’t realize cucumber would grow up a trellis, smart
You need to train the vine around the string daily but it does settle in well in this system

Hi have a great day
Very nice! I love that you used sticks! It looks great. I’m gonna try this with my peas 🫛 what kind of string did you use?
Thanks I use baling twine I find it has zero stretch so good to use as it holds its shape
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 thank you ☺️
Would you mind to list the measurements of the posts that went into the ground?
Go as long as you can but these were 1.8m (6 feet) long. You need the height as cucumbers can extend far
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 thank you for the reply!

Will the cucumbers grow up the string without any help from clips or additional fastening to the string?
yes but you need to continually train them onto the string. They will not twist along the string on their own.
Do you have to train them all season long or does it learn after a couple of days? I'm new lol
@@valahera they'll grab onto strings and themselves, anything that's within reach of tendrils and thin enough. It probably won't be as tidy as wrapping them around the strings. Also, some varieties don't have tendrils.
What string did you use or wire to get the vine to follow it
I use baling twine. It has zero stretch so I find it works best
Are you training a separate cucumber plant per string or is this one cucumber plant with multiple vines?
Generally one vine per string but I don’t prune the sideshoots so as new ones grow I add additional strings to train them on
Wait the strings are supposed to be taut. I did mine loose
Yeah they need to be tight to support the vines
We have a four foot tall.fence. Will that be sufficient height for such? What about cherry tomatoes?
i ideally like it to be taller but if the fence is all you have it works. You can use it for cherry tomatoes but you will need to prune heavily
How is the second row connected to the ground
There is another bamboo beam at the bottom that you tie the string too
Will it work for watermelon
In principle it could work but you would want to provide support for the fruit
thanks 😊
