  • VVT Solenoids are also known as oil control valves, cam shaft position actuators or cam shaft position sensors. This cleaning will focus on preventing engine codes P0010, P0011, P0013, and P0014. Cleaning the vvt solenoid screens will help eliminate stalling and rough idle as well as hard starting related to these codes. If this cleaning doesn’t help with eliminating these codes, the solenoids will need to be replaced, or wiring harnesses may need to be inspected.

    I replaced mine 2 Novembers ago and today I am looking at putting my oil catch can and I noticed there’s a little bit of oil around the VVT I replaced two years ago. It’s not a significant leak but still I’m wondering if it was residue from back then or it’s a tiny leak from the vvt o ring.

      I would say hit the are with some brake cleaner then wipe it. Drive your normal routine and check back in about 200 km to see if it is still dry. Chances are it was spillage from pulling the old ones out.

      @@BillOfAllTrades2016 yup that’s what I did I cleaned it up and now it’s dry so I’m going to drive and then check it out. So idk if you saw it or not but do you happen to know what the ID of the hose needed for the valve cover barb?

    My engine light came on with code p0010. The car drives bit jerky and nearly stalls going into reverse. Does the solenoids cause these symtoms. Should I change both intake and exhaust. The spark plugs are good.

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  2 роки тому +1

      The p0010 is for the intake solenoid. And those are definitely symptoms of the solenoid. try taking both out and cleaning them like in the video. If your screens are clogged then a cleaning should fix it. Clear the code after cleaning and give it a test drive to see how it works. If the issue is still the same then replace the intake solenoid with a new one. Thanks for watching. Hope it helps. Please let me know. And please like and subscribe

      Are you referring to the oil catch can? That catches all the vapors from the valve cover that usually pass into the air box. It prevents the engine from blowing a rear main seal due to pressure build up in the pcv hose in cold temperatures. I got mine off Amazon here is the link

      The oil catch can you are referring to is a very good and cheap add on. I recommend 100%. Here is my video how to install it:

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016

      If you clean the screens, use good synthetic oil, a quality filter and do oil changes at regular intervals then you may never have to replace the solenoids. Personally I have not experienced a code for these. I just do them as part of my preventative maintenance regiment. However you could do every possible preventative maintenance measure on the vehicle and still have them fail mechanically. So it’s hard to say because if they mechanically fail then cleaning won’t help. I just think it’s good practice and a more affordable option to replacing them. I hope the video helped you. And I hope you lease like and subscribe for more helpful equinox videos. Thanks for your question

      So I change my oil regularly with synthetic dexos oil and the VVT went out and the CEL came on but these are very common for failing even with oil changes it just depends on hit or miss. My exhaust side went out but the intake side was fine so I replaced it and everything has been fine over the last two years. The one part that I didn’t have to replace but I did anyway was the power lift gate strut for the gate. I also changed out the non power strut side and now the gate stays open as it should but I now have a spare lift gate actuator that I don’t need.

    Be careful with that throttle body cleaner because it can ruin those grammets or O-rings whatever you want to call them.

      Crc throttle body cleaner is safe on o-rings and sensors as well as plastics. That being said it is important to read the side of any can of chemical you use. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
