- Cleaning your throttle body will improve your gas mileage and throttle/acceleration response time. if you are using more gas than usual or your gas pedal seems sluggish when accelerating, perform this task to solve the issue. Use only a product that is safe for throttle bodies and avoid overspray on any wiring.

Great video! I've seen a lot where people have been pulling out red tabs on the connectors. I've just use a flat head on the opposite side and push the black tab locking clip downward and the connector comes right off; I don't think the red tabs have anything to do with the connector's locking mech to the female end, although that tab does look trickier, as there is no room for flat head on the other side🤔
Trying this tonight. All symptoms are pointing to the throttle body needing cleaned and you’ve made this step by step very easy! I’ll let you know how I make out!
Thanks for watching. Glad you found it helpful. I would love to hear the results. Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already to stay in tune with all my equinox videos
Well, I did it. The throttle body was pretty dirty, but it was very simple to get at it and clean. I had no problem driving on the highway, but I would sputter and stall at stop lights. Taking it out for a drive tomorrow and hope things go well! I should point out that I had the timing belt replaced in the new year, so I’m hoping this does the trick.
thanks for circling the bolt in red
You’re welcome. Glad the video was helpful. Please like and subscribe to keep up to date with more future equinox videos
Thanks for posting. Need to do this on my nox

@@BillOfAllTrades2016 I’ve seen all the ones you’ve posted in the FB group
Nice. I’m editing one tomorrow night to upload
Very nice explication 🌹
Thank you so much 😊
Do this cause the stabilitrak and reduced power to come on?
Thanks homie for the help

Thank you 🙏🏽 you are super awesome, 💯👑✅
You are very welcome. Thanks for the great feedback. Please like and subscribe
Thank you 🌹: just a question : you sure we don’t need to remove the throttle and clean it out side the engine ?
No need. Every car I’ve owned I’ve done it right on the engine just like in the video. Never had an issue. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
I have a spray can of carburetor cleaner. Would that work to clean the throttle body on my Equinox?
Yes that will be ok. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Thank you so much,
I have a 2014 chevrolet Equinox. i checked the throttle body and found carbon it possible to be a victim of my vehicle pushing a bit at a stop light, or it could be clogged fuel injectors
When you feel it surging at a stop light do you have eco mode on? Eco mode will drop the rpm too low causing the surge. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
@BillOfAllTrades2016 eco mode is off, and it doesn't help me save gas, so it could be dirty fuel injectors or carbon on my spark plugs next possible i'll keep you updated :)
Yes that’s a possibility. Dirty vvt solenoids are also a possibility.
@@BillOfAllTrades2016and since the carbon is making my engine work a bit harder
Do we have to reprogram it after cleaning or after a new one goes in?
No, you will be good to go. Easy as plug and go. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
Can I remove the throttle body from the intake, to clean it ?
Yes you can. Once the electrical connector is disconnected you can unscrew the four bolts and it will come off. The green gasket is reusable. Just spread some dialectic grease on it before you reassemble and you will be good to go. Thanks for for watching. Please like and subscribe
So I just went to clean mine and the lil plate in there was hard for me to keep open while cleaning. It had tension hard enough to pinch my fingers pretty badly if I let go. It seems like you pushed yours open effortlessly...any suggestions? Thanks in advance ☺️
Did you disconnect it from the electronics ?
Instead of holding it with your fingers you could use another toothbrush to hold it open. It doesn’t have a lot of tension. Just a little bit. As I see in a comment below I’ll also ask did you unplug the throttle body first. If not then maybe that’s why it’s so stiff. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
@Vlogger Gamer thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 I sure did unplug it. I attempted this 4 times. I will add that when I just now took the cover off, I noticed an almost sludgy chocolate milky liquid dripping from the plug that connects to the cover manifold cord? ...I'm not good with the terminology...my oil is not milky it's fine just milky around the throttle body. Thanks for your response and I will subscribe
I assume you are referring to the pcv hose as shown in my video here:
ua-cam.com/video/WLSLTtYTvpw/v-deo.html
That would indicate a clogged pcv orifice that’s located in the intake manifold. It needs to be cleaned immediately as shown in this video:

My eqnox has been idling out at like red lights an drive thrus. Went to auto zone an computer read said suggest New throttle body control. But it’s like almost $300 ,, Could just cleaning this good keep me from having to replace it ?? Atleast for a lil while ??
It’s definitely worth a shot. I would clean it first. Then see how it goes. A cleaning could help the issue. Even permanently. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 thanks for the reply. I’ll let you know how it goes. Keep up the good content. 💯
Awesome. Will do. Thanks
Sometimes that’s all it takes. Always clean before you try to replace. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 thx. This seems to have worked. Running so much better.
Ok waaaaitt!! I have a question.... sooooo... do i wipe the spray off when im done... or do i spray it (like a dab) then put the casing back on!?! 🤔
If you do it exactly as I showed there will be no issues. Spray a good amount. Scrub. And spray a bit more. Then reassemble everything. The cleaner will evaporate in less than a minute. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe
What does it mean when my equinox keeps goin into reduce power mode
A dirty throttle body can cause that message. Did you scan the vehicle for codes?
@@BillOfAllTrades2016I’m having the same problem my car keeps going into reduce power mode and I’m getting the code P228C
It is best to remove the throttle body completely to clean it. It's true?
Either way is good. I prefer this way because you never know if that rubber gasket is going to be in good condition when you remove the throttle body. I find it’s best personally to leave it attached and clean it on the vehicle. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
thanks for the video, but you should have also cleaned the outside of the engine including the air filter
Ya I know. I did that already. Made a video for it. Didn’t include it in this video because the topic here is specifically throttle body cleaning. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe and check out my equinox playlist. I have around 100 videos just on this vehicle.
@@efraintorres2073 also, while your at it, this would be a great Time to clean your MAF sensor too!
Thanks. Did that too. Again, separate video because it’s a different topic.
So this will clear p0506 code?
It could help with that code yes. Give it a try to see what it does for you. If it doesn’t help then you may have a vacuum leak. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 ok thank you sir
Another question could this be the reason I hear ticking noises wen accelerating?
A ticking noise could be any number of things. Have you checked you oil level. It could be low. It also could be your camshaft lifters are a bit loose. Scan for codes again because you could also be having a misfire.
@@BillOfAllTrades2016 ok I see I scanned and only two codes show; catalytic converter one coming from the exhaust manifold and throttle body codes.
The ticking then is most likely your failing catalytic converter. You should get it looked at and possibly replaced
Not to be smart, but how in the world does this help? I’m not mechanical.
Throttle bodies on modern vehicles suck in the air to the engine. There is a part called the pcv that sends vapors that may contain oil and unbury gas as well as water molecules. This makes this throttle body very dirty. The flap get covered with oil deposits and carbon which can make it not close all the way leading to a high idle. Or it can stick shit and hesitate to open which can result in poor acceleration. Cleaning it keeps it idling properly, smoothly and keeps acceleration tip top shape. Hopefully this answers your question. Feel free to ask any more you may have and I’ll try my best to answer. Please like and subscribe to my channel for more helpful videos.
Four more bolts to take the whole Throttle body off and not worry about anything leaking back into engine
Depending on the condition of the gasket that could lead to a gasket replacement costing more money. The intake manifold (the part the throttle body is bolted to) is designed with a large curved bottom. Any throttle body cleaner will drip into the bottom of it. It won’t drip into the engine. You should probably google it to see the design. It’s interesting. Also the his is the way I’ve been cleaning the throttle bodies on all my vehicles for the last ten years and never had an issue. Thanks for commenting. Take care
Wouldn't it be easier to remove the 4 bolts, and remove the throttle body altogether and really clean it.! You're down that far anyway. Just saying. .
You can go that route as well. Both yield good results. However if you take it completely off you may run into needing the seal replaced. I know it’s cheap but we try to save every dollar we can. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
