We love rice pudding and this is a good old fashioned rice pudding recipe. Use leftover rice and mix it with some eggs, milk, spices, bake it and it is ready to go. We love this easy recipe and hope you give it a try.
Here is another rice pudding recipe: it’s a stovetop cheesecake rice pudding recipe. Super simple and delicious.

The hot water will give it a more custard texture.
bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes
This truly the old fashioned way to make rice pudding like my mom use to make; bake it in the oven.
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it
My mom always made a light caramel sauce to put on top. Yummy
Great simple recipe. I do like more rice in mine so I added an additional 1.5 cups.
@@dianesoucy232 The sauce can really make the pudding, I like caramel sauce, maple syrup sauce, rum sauce bourbon sauce along with fruit and chocolate. Just about anything works.
You can also cook it on top of the stove, I think it's more creamy when you cook it. I suspect cooking it is more old fashioned because at one time people did a lot of cooking over an open fire. When you cook it on top of the stove you have to keep siring it so it doesn't burn or scald.
My great Aunt used to make this in a wood stove. It was the best rice pudding. As I remember she added just a little bit of lemnon flavor. My sister and I loved the way she bakes.
That’s awesome. A little lemon flavor in the recipe would be delicious, combined with the extra flavor from the wood stove. Thank you for sharing.
I have a dish waiting to go in the oven. I will try the lemon
Cream and heavy eggs--- ❤ You get a follow for that! Looks really good 👍
Hahahahaha, thank you. Yeah, my brain doesn’t always work!
This is a good Rice Pudding recipe. I like using leftover rice because it is creamy or cook the rice in milk and not water. May I suggest to always buy a GOOD Cinnamon, not just any ol' Cinnamon. Vietnamese Cinnamon is what I saw and bought and the flavor is over the top. Buy the whole Nutmeg and grate it. The whole Nutmeg lasts 100 years on the shelf.
Thanks for including the recipe in the description below 🥰
Thank you for watching and for the recipe tips. We appreciate it!
Just be careful with anything other than Ceylon cinnamon (which is the true cinnamon and much less spicy while being much more healthful). The problem with the spicy cinnamon (which is REALLY cassia) is that it is toxic if you eat too much of it. I actually prefer that you call the "good" cinnamon for flavor, but it is NOT the cinnamon that it touted for health benefits. (And the "good" cinnamon is also MUCH cheaper than the true cinnamon.)
Well this is a new one on me, I’m 77 and I have had baked rice pudding all my life but the rice is short grained uncocked goes in the oven and the only things in it Are rice milk sugar slow oven for about three hours but I’m gonna try this Because it would be like custard and rice pudding all in one thank you for the recipe Christine New Zealand originally from Wales
It is a custard style rice pudding. It is delicious! Thank you for watching and commenting. Let us know if you enjoy it
That's how I remember it.
@@johannasaunders489 it’s really good. Thank you for watching and commenting
I'm from the UK, baked rice pudding never had eggs in,or cream. Just raw rice,a little sugar, milk and enough butter to grease the dish. Sprinkle a little nutmeg on top. Delicious, everyone wanted the toasty "skin " off the top!
Sounds delicious. We are going to do a video using that type of recipe. Thank you for watching and commenting
@@TwistedMikesDo you cook the rice without salt🤔
We did this time. You can add it if you like
I'm from the UK, ,my mum used to put egg in with sultanas and nutmeg on top,she would boil the rice first then drain it off and cool, and would use evaporated milk. My dad called it Chinese wedding cake.
This is an American thing
Now that 's what I call a rice pudding!
Thank you for watching and commenting
You know it's good if it has "cream & heavy eggs" I bout fell out my chair. 😂😂😆😆

"Cream and heavy eggs.. Its gotta be good". Yup!!!
Heavy eggs makes everything better! 😂 thank you for watching!
My grandmother would make her rice pudding exactly like this. She would bring it out of the oven, sit us on the front lawn, give us spoons and dig in. Thanks for sharing 😊
Sounds awesome! Great memories! Thank you for watching
Such a lovely memory
I would omit the raisins and add a little butter. Just personal preference. Looks yummy!
Thank you for commenting and watching
baked rice pudding is simply the best. Especially if it's hot on a cold night or day! I'm a little surprised you didn't stir during baking. My great-aunt would stir maybe 4 times during the baking time, to make sure the rice didn't all float to the bottom. 🙂 Thank you for this video!
Thank you for watching. Rice pudding is awesome. I have never thought of storing it while baking. Great tip! Thank you!
I grew up with rice pudding made by my German grandma and we would have homemade rice pudding at school once a month. I have seen a lot of recipes because I like trying different variations but I have never seen directions to stir it while it cooks. It's a custard, you don't stir baked custard, you don't even open the oven door while it's baking. If you have the correct ratio of rice to custard it won't separate. He had way too much liquid for the rice he used. This wasn't rice pudding it was custard with rice and raisins. I think that's why he didn't give us a good look at the finished product because I'm sure there was a layer or rice at the bottom with a layer of custard on top. His recipe would work if he used uncooked rice.
My grandmother made a custard that was like a thick liquid. She would have to stir constantly and watch her temperature, not too hot. A little on a slow way but it is one of my many favorite memories. She brought it to me when I was sick. I so loved it. ❤️😇😌

its a delicious recipe. Thank you for watching and commenting. Let me know how it turns out with the honey.
Ooohhhh your reminding me of my childhood, my grandmother way back in the “50-60’s” would make rice pudding or raisin pudding at least once a week. Those were the days!
That’s great memories! Thank you for watching and commenting
Had this with both Grandmas, Poppa, or just plain rice with butter, sugar and milk. Ok. Now I need to make some!
It’s delicious! Thank you for watching and commenting
I always put the rice and sultanas in the dish first then whilst on the oven shelf I pour on the custard mix and just give it a little stir. That way I don't spill it on the way to the oven.
That’s smart. Thank you for sharing
My mama made the best baked rice pudding, I have tried so many times and 🤷♀️. Until I bought an enamel baking dish like she used… voila… success..
Thank you for the tip. It’s amazing how different pans affect our cooking. Thank you for watching and commenting
I love rice pudding 😊. I still make it with my Grandmother's recipe except with much less sugar. They sure liked sugar back in those days!

I delete all sugar from cooking

They did, but they worked and played hard back then, so they never had weight issues, or many of the issues we have today.
@@mainemermaid6596 yeah, we like watching our tv. Have a great day
The traditional German rice pudding always has nutmeg and cinnamon, some recipes call for cardamom, cloves and allspice as well or you can just use apple pie spice that's already premixed. Dried cranberry is a great alternative to raisins or in addition, any dried fruit will work.
Thank you for watching and commenting. There a variety of ways of making rice pudding. I was looking at some German rice pudding recipes recently, they look delicious.
I also use cranberries instead of sultanas
@@michelegrice4938 that sounds delicious! I love cranberries
At school they used raisins. They made it alot.
@@dianemanson7756 Our grade school cooks were all older ladies from the church, they made everything from scratch and put big bowls of the rice pudding on the table with a big pat of butter on the top. It was soooo good.
Made perfectly. I add grated fresh nutmeg just before putting in oven. It is warm, filling and comforting and reminds me of my childhood.
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Nicest recipe and outcome I've seen. That's my kind of rice pudding... also, instead of cinnamon, a grating of nutmeg on top before baking might be tasty. 👍🇨🇦

Use both. Ceylon cinnamon in the recipe and fresh grated nutmeg on top before baking.

This is different. I've been making rice pudding for over fifty years, using the same recipe that my grandmother used. It's never had eggs in it. Ours has short-grain rice, milk, cream and sugar. That's it. At Christmas, it's eaten as part of the main meal, with a spoonful of jam. I'm always amazed how differently dishes with the same name are made across the world.
