I don't know if many people realised but his head also hit the tyres in Silverstone, paint from the tyres are all over his helmet.
COTA 2021 was where his vision blurred and Jeddah 2021 was where he was dizzy and they got him a darker visor because the lights were too bright. All symptoms of a TBI/Concussion.
To clarify also, this is in the past tense. He has recovered.
I just saw the picture on reddit of his helmet. You can see the red paint of the tires on the helmet.
Better to hit tyres than to hit the wall directly. Tyres are flexible and absorb energy, a concrete wall does not. Needless to say what happened at Silverstone that year was utterly disgusting.
This just makes that unfinished lap at Jeddah all the more impressive… and all the more tragic that it wasn’t to be.

I do obv recognize that hitting a concrete wall even with no direct impact to the helmet would be infinitely worse. Then its basically indy car with no curvature to the wall.. (probably hitting the helmet with something is almost guaranteed cause the disintegration of the car )

I respect that. Never showed his weakness, never took it as an excuse. Only 3 years later we heard this confession, my respect goes up. They say he is a crybaby, but if you hold this as a secret, for the sake of his own health and his future and probably his life, then you are just from another caliber mentally. Max is a man of titanium; he will not be stopped. Wonder how lulu would feel after a 51g collision, probably a heck of a lot worse than Max did back then. Our lion will not stop fighting, no matter what anyone tries to pull on him.
Max is special, he only cares about racing (yes I am subjective as I’m a Max fan), not trying to discount Lewis but I believe Max is a class above

35 times Max & Lewis ended up 1 & 2 since 2016, all time recorded. No two drivers finished 1&2 more than them.
It's a pity Lewis is going to Ferrari. End of career. Hoped for a sequal. Two of the best drivers ever. Messi-Ronaldo, Federer-Nadal, Max-Lewis. We need that.

If Toyota came in with HAAS, that would be great. Ive always wished that each team built their own chasis and engines. Ive never liked the idea of customer cars.
Finally some one is looking for the ethos of formula 1 the greatest drivers in different chassis and engines the racing is stunted by only three or four engine manufactors.
When he hid the wall with 51g you heard the pain in his voice. I red from haters that the sound was nice to hear. I knew that there were haters in F1 that gives F1 fans a bad name. Whistling and boeing during the anthem is not chique, but hoping that it ends badly with such an accident... than you are not an F1 fan.

I always wondered how Max got out of that crash without a serious concussion and I guess the answer was he didn’t! I’m sure if he would’ve took time off it would’ve healed fine but the demanding schedule and bumpy nature of F1 cars probably kept pro longing his symptoms
If anyone wants to remember Max held off Kimi in Barcelona 2016 in his first race for Red Bull A team. Generational talent!!!! Lewis punted him off in Copse and was given a penalty as it was his fault.

Silverstone 2021 was the death of my admiration for Lewis Hamilton. He came much closer to achieving his goal that day than we knew.

Max is talking honestly talking. That’s how the reality inside when you are driving fighting against the 7 x champion
Red Bull started 2021 with a twitchy rear end that Max complained about a lot. Later in the season they fell behind in that period Newey was in hospital. Then Max was never happy with the car he told us he was running compromised setups, to keep up once Merc used the huge power advantage available on fresher power units.
I can't remember what went wrong for Mercedes at Monza, but Max couldn't keep up with the Mercedes powered McLaren's as he exclaimed on the radio. Hamilton was even further behind in what felt like one of his off days he had in every season. One of three for 2021.
Red Bull had a very poor pit stop at Monza (just after the pitstop rules were changed mid season) otherwise Verstappen would have come out of the pits well in front of Hamilton.
After the sprint, Lewis knew it was then or never for the championship. Couldn’t just back out and race further, he no longer had such the superior car advantage. Committed to those corners, didn’t back out. Made contact, everyone has their own opinion on the result. He doesn’t win 2021 without it, and you can say that about so many races that season.
Gave it everything like very few others, if any, could. The second half was one of the greatest drives over you’ll ever see. And in those fires where others melted, Maximillian Verstappen was forged.
Hopefully signs that Lewis truly isn’t done, and whether some of the other young hopefuls like Lando, Charles, or even Oscar can rise to become real contenders. Racing Lewis for wins is completely different from mere podiums.
Actually, Max is from Hasselt Belgium. But because of his upbringing, he choose for the Dutch nationality as he feels more related to it.

All respect for max. I am a Lewis fan. Not calling him a liar by this question but how was he allowed to race? Surely fia should’ve picked this up in a physical or test? Not saying this to go oh this is why he was crashing into Lewis or something like that, but if they allowed him to race with this issue especially for the rest of 2021 where are the safety regulations here. Allowing a driver to drive with the conditions max said he was experiencing sounds like such a danger to HIS LIFE. But even putting that into perspective his unfinished lap in Saudi is incredible.

If max took any kinda of visual examination with said problems I don’t see how he passes. More upset at the fia cause if this is the case then they let him race although it was unsafe for himself and the other drivers
He got checked for brain bleeds but the micro damage in the brain isn't picked up by scans I believe. A crash like that puts tremendous stress on the tissues of the brain even without having a rupture of sorts.

@@BryanWaldo oh 100% I’ve been through and lied thru concussion protocol myself back in college. But given that the sport is formula 1 one of the most dangerous on the planet I would think they’d have some kind of physical examination. More prop to max being able to bring the championship home with the issue, but I feel like the fia needs to be more strict with these things. A driver is gonna do what they need to do to drive that’s a given, it’s up to the governing body to address the risk

I love that you as a hammy fan can still respect max. I feel the same way, only with Max has my driver...i love Max but I would never disrespect Lewis, his fans make it hard, but I try. Nah, other teams can rent time in the Toyota tunnel, but they can't buy it. Mclaren used it before they built their own and now Andretti is using it to prop up their attempts to enter F1, though that doesn't seem to do all that much for them.

You would almost say that Cameron is brave, but that does him a disservice. Cameron just tries to be who he is and shares his own thoughts with his listeners. Just as he has never underestimated or undermined Lewis, he now also treats Max in the same respectful and honest way! Strangely enough... it is the Lewis fans themselves who always seem to want more than Lewis himself can ever offer them! Lewis is one of the best drivers of his generation, an incredible talent and phenomenon! But he simply cannot be compared to a Senna or Verstappen because these are simply completely different characters, raw instinctive talents and pure forces of nature! Lewis is a completely different driver, a calculated perfectionist, a technician with a great capacity for consistency and unbridled ambition. Cameron has now been able to recognize and name the difference without having to undermine the other's greatness out of feelings of jealousy or disappointment!

Cameron, I remember COTA ‘21 distinctly. The Red Bull car was faster. Max was in pole and Lewis passed Max into T1 and Max’s comment to his engineers is that the merc. didn’t look stable and the back was jumping around. Toward the end of the Mexico race, Checo was on Lewis’s gearbox so the W12 in those two races which were back to back, was not as good as the Red Bull.

Wait, so you are using the events in another race to show that the RB was faster in COTA? That is not how it works. Yes, the RB was better in Maxico, but there is a clear reason for that, that isn't valid at COTA. The track in Maxico is situated 2 km's above sea level, where the air is thin. The merc does not function well in low density atmosphere, whereas the Honda does with its big turbofan. So yes, the RB was better in Maxico, but that certainly wasn't true at COTA, which is way closer to sea level and where merc was at least as good, if not better.

With respect that is nonesense bordering BS as that would be detected in the Head Injury protocols. My Son In Law was international forward rugby player and went through similar head and neck trauma, he was monitored over months because of continued bouts of blurred vision in certain scenarios. To say that they the Sports expert administartors would have let Max be a danger to himself and others in a sport where visual accuity was a prerequisite and pre-eminent sense, is inconcievable. The FIA scruitinize every aspect in the most miniscule of detail. It is therefore, either gross negligence by his and the FIA physicians or equally gross incompetence. Given the huge emphasis and enhanced emphasis on Driver , track and car safety in the last 5 years, I'm sorry Cameron that is just not believeable. There would also have been extra scrutiny on the health of Max since they (Christian Horner) reported in the brightest of lights a 51g collison and again said Mr Horner emphasised the attempt on Max life as horrendous. Yet we expected to believe that in this day and age Max was allowed to drive with an extended and unresloved concussion! Max is a great driver not a some Tron like superhuman! Now that is Techie and Oh the humanity RBR!
