As a vfx artist the coolest part of this movie is how they’re going to make the team appear to be in the actual races. It’s going to be really interesting to see what they do for the teams liveries since they filmed most of the driving last year with reshoots this year. Like will sauber be the old colour or the new bright green? it turns out they’re going to be using footage from the teams and then replacing the teams car with their own recorded footage, it’s gonna be an amazing cut out job. I assume if theyre going to include any crashes with other teams those are going to be their own set off stunts.
We can start telling F1 movie fans (those who have never watched F1 before) that in the group picture, the Red Bull guy standing right next to Idris is an actor who actually gets to test drive a real Red Bull car and eventually end up winning the Championship 3 times, it will be hell of a story lol
How did they lead with one of the worst lines in moviemaking? "Set up the car for combat" what the fuck are they gonna do, put missiles on it? Armour plating? As if McLaren and Red Bull and Ferrari haven't realised that F1 cars also turn? Seems interesting they'd market this towards F1 enthusiasts and then the opening line is something an 11 year old would come up with.
My guess is they needed an excuse to have the words "Mercedes, Ferrari, RedBull, Aston and McLaren" in the first two seconds of the trailer. To make the brain release funny chemicals because it knows these names.
I mean how else would you have written it to make it interesting for the casual viewer? Don't let a single line ruin your impressions on this, look at it in a bigger picture.
I think the movie isn't really targeted to the enthusiasts. Scott has a point of this being a marketing opportunity for F1, show it on the hollywood big screens to bring in people who aren't familiar to the sport. Us who have been watching the sport for years are already numb to the technical terms being thrown around might be able to point out how terrible the lines are, but for the average person who has never seen the sport it wouldn't matter. But yeah Brad's line was actually really cringe loll

The difference between this and DTS is that DTS is a documentary that sometimes bends reality while this is a fictional movie that by design bends reality. Like in Rush, not everything was realistic but still an enjoyable movie
@@tomas.lambert Yep. "Documentary" from Netflix has gone as far as removing drivers from events to create a narrative. This has little to do with irl events by default.
Nah if its V8/V10 then definitely yes. The V6T Hybrid sounded nice but Queen's guitar rifts there is super cool to match with the mood of the trailer. In the film they shouldnt, but I hope they turn it up LOUD for the scene because V6T Hybrid is actually way louder in person than what F1 broadcast can translate since they have commentaries to overlay on top. The movie should at least try capture that.
The things I'm hoping for with this movie is a well written story, characters with depth and not just "I want to win", and exciting moments that doesn't lean on crashes to add drama. The only way this becomes a hit is if we're actually immersed and not just watching a movie. So hopefully the real life integration into F1 events is a symbol it will be good and not just a stunt to attract attention.
unfortunately when the trailer has “so we need to be faster in the turns” and “a car built for combat” I’m not expecting much. I mean they didn’t even say “corners”. like come on… if you really spent 12 months getting immersed in F1 then you’d know to say corners not turns. smh that is a huge tell that whoever wrote the script is not an F1 fan and doesn’t know much of F1 or racing. so that also makes me pretty pessimistic about the quality of the story.
It’s the Disnification of storytelling. Hit all the demographics, show every type of person in the best light except one truly awful completely unrealistic stereotypical thug. Complete lack of believability or subtlety in the story. Someone saw the rise in popularity of F1 and said let’s profit from it. It makes “Days of Thunder” look cool by comparison. I’m seeing a huge financial flop. Confused movie fans. Disappointed race fans (“Ferrari” anyone?). And a lot of people re-appreciating Steve McQueen.
I assume its supposed to be an American team and they are stereotyping American attitudes, which in this case is the antithesis of how F1 has been run for 30 years.
I have a feeling the "we need a car made for combat" line is part of a much bigger conversation. What it REALLY means is probably building a car that's really good in dirty air, in the sweepers, with mid/low-speed grip that can make the car actually perform well since it won't be able to pass on the straights with DRS. And yes, part of that mindset means building a car that can bang sidepods and not fall apart, as it were.
I hope you guys do a feature about Grand Prix (1966) close to this movie's release. That movie was and is something else when it came to an 'immersive' racing film.
i agree no one in the racetracks speaks like that, but thats how Hollywood make dialogs and it works, Ford vs Ferrari has this level of cringy dialog and the movie was a hit. On the other hand, Hollywood writers arent gonna bore us with F1 technicalities, they have to make it simple, otherwise most of the people who could watch this in the teather wouldnt understand. And lastlyt, i dont know about F1 simulators, but most racing video games are like that, some cars are good on the straights, other ones are good in the corners and so on, in order to compensate and thats how racing videogames are balanced (that and slingshoting, but they cant portrait that in a movie). Anyway, just enjoy the movie guys, no need to be hating.
I commend everyone who makes a movie with practical effects instead of CGI. Look at Master and Commander, movie from 2003. They made the whole ship, and everything was filmed there. Insane and still holds today. I'll watch this movie, even though I think the plot will be 2024-Hollywood-like.
This attitude counterintuitively just discredits VFX artists, as this movie and every other uses incredible effects you just don’t notice. I think what you mean is you don’t like bad VFX, which is brought on by terrible producers and directors.
There is no "practical instead of CGI" anymore. EVERY film these days will have CGI. Yes, Master and Commander used real replica ships but they mixed it with CGI and scale models as well.
Excited to see how well they can translate the feeling of driving an F1 car to the big screen. Going to an F1 race in person, racing on a simulator, and watching onboards never truly do justice to how insane it must feel.
Seeing them in person will blow your mind. The TV never does justice to just how fast these cars are going. Seeing them go through a fast corner section at 150mph+ is just nuts.

What I love about this movie so far is it feels as though they are really trying to create a modern version of the 1966 classic Grand Prix. I loved that movie and how they shoved actors right next to F1 drivers of the time. The on track camera angles and action was phenomenal, they even showed the scariness of death in that era. So I'm very excited to see how this movie turns out as I think it will become one of the greatest racing movies ever made, at least a top 5 candidate.

Seen the trailer alone had made me wanting to watch the movie. Hearing that most of the shots are as close to real life as possible is just making me want to watch it even more. I just first thought that some of the scenes where either clever use of CGI, or cuts where we can see the other F1 cars and so on. I know and heard that they are filming the racing with the actors as to use race cars. But I only thought that would be on Silverstone, and when it is only those two cars alone. I didnt thought they went to that lengths with it. I also know that Hamliton is with as a form of advisor (I forgot what it was called fully) and I had heard a rumor that some of the storyline for the movie is partily based on what Hamliton's experience when he came into F1 (Around his McLaren years with Alonso as his teammate I believe. So, yes *that* season) So I can only partily guess what the story would be
I LOVE the use of the wider FOV onboard camera, it gives such a better sense of speed than the current narrow FOV I so wish F1 would go back to that, it really does make the cars look so much faster and more dynamic in the faster parts of the track!
that WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE TEASER!!!!! Guenther!!!! I LOVE HIM!! He has such charisma AND I believe between him and Danial Riccardo....MADE Drive To Survive EVEN BETTER!!!!
I remember back in, I think it was 98, Stallone would show up to multiple races to do research for his movie which was at that time still going to be a Formula 1 movie. Then years later we got Driven lmao.
@506thLittleberry I was at the race in Budapest when Stallone was on the grid before the start. In the movie when he first turns up at a track he's wearing a Williams cap. Having seen Driven F1 dodged a bullet there.
As a both F1 fan & filmmaking, I think a lot of people (f1 fans) don't realize that a movie is just another way to draw other's attention that haven't got into f1. So considering the 'messed up' dialog at the beginning of the teaser, I think it would be beneficial for someone to easily understand the world of this motorsport . Then when the time they got into, they'll quickly "seek" for the realities.
For years I've been telling people that Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix" is something that the would never be able to make again. I think I may be wrong now.....
lets see if it can match up to the 1966 movie "Grand Prix". It was a blockbuster and extremely innovative AND realistic, with great story lines and human drama... as well as some great racing drivers and teams and racing scenes and footage... a true classic in the all time great films about motor racing. "F1", hopefully, will live up to the standard set back then. I watched "Grand Prix" as a kid in 1966 in the theater in "Cinerama" which was kind of the "IMAX" of the day, as a kid of 11 years old and have been hooked on the sport since. Still highly recommended today. I still get goose bumps seeing all of the driver greats of the era in the movie. "F1" does the same thing... very happy about that some 58 years later. looking forward to 2025! I hope some of the "Drive to Survive" generation takes the time to watch AND appreciate the classic film, as well as the sacrifices that have taken drivers lives to help make the sport as safe and great as it is today.
@@alx_santosit’s probably a point in the plot. Maybe Checo or Max had a poor strategy call and apex gp is fighting the redbull in the dying moments of the race to get a point or a podium or whatever.
Will be a mixture of the good old Grand Prix movie (1966 directed by John Frankenheimer) and the F1 22 game Braking Point scenario (old driver vs young driver)
No doubt it will be a well-shot movie with the cinematography and sound design, my concerns would mostly lie with the plot being way too outlandish and the acting not being up to snuff.
I’m here for high-res car shots, sounds and track shots. Anything that can help me get a better sense of what F1 drivers have to do because it is such a feat and we don’t have a clue how much is really going on. Can’t wait to watch this!

They should've used neck prosthetics for the shot next to the real drivers, the neck size difference is enormous! For real tho, props to them for going the extra mile to make this look as authentic as possible
That's pretty much what Top Gun Maverick did, basically no scene was filmed with the jets you see on screen, but with smaller planes, that were then cut out and overlayed with digital models of the jets you see at the end, but you still get the real movement and physics. This also provides a great template for the VFX artists to base lighting and things like that on, to make the digital models look even better. VFX and "CGI" isn't bad, but bad CGI is just standing out like a sore thumb and I love seeing it done right!
Not at all accurate. New camera pods were made and approved by the Navy to fly on the F-18 which were reused for the recent Blue Angels documentary. Among other things.
I just walked the pit straight In Singapore 2023 pit board was up. Instead of Daniel in for Liam Lawson the driver lineups were identical. So 2023 stuff can would be a lot easier to manage I would assume.
Noticed also in the driver shots that they appear to be wearing the earlier pre-2021(?) helmets - the FIA spec was revised to make the eye opening a lot smaller if you refer to the actual driver shots
one thing i love is the onboard shots. Theyve really done alot with tha camera to make it look fast, some of it might be cgi, but i think alot comes from the wider angle (dont know much about cameras, just assuming thats what it is). kinda wish f1 used this to make the onboards look faster and better represent the speed of the cars. Maybe not to the extent in this film but it would be a cool idea
Just to pick up on your point of the camera being inside the car, I think the last time I went "Woah that's cool" was the 2021 Saudi GP where they had cameras mounted on the side of the halo / dorsal fin. I've not seen it since but it looked so fast!
I dont understand why the F1 onboard cameras are only 720p? The tiny camera on the tiny 249 g DJI Mini 4 Pro drone shoots at 4k 60 frames per second so why F1 cant at the very least move up to 1080P I have no idea. Having said that I watch formula one on the Channel 4 hightlights and I recon that is only streamed at 720P, but thats a guess. Other wish list items, a little in camera stabilisation would make it better to watch and make the footage look more like it looks from the drivers perspective, not getting rid of all the shake, just the insane brain juddering vibration we currently have.
I've watched F1 for almost two years ( I realize that's not very long, but it's a fair amount) and I've never heard them play that song. I'm guessing the broadcast I'm watching skips it, because they skip the national anthem most of the time as well.
See, the problem for me as someone who follows F1 is that, well, I follow F1. I LOVE the level of immersion they've gone to in this movie from what I can see, and I love even more that F1 allowed them to do it (the occasional diss from certain other real F1 drivers forgiven, of course). I love the camera angles they're showing us, the intensity, the realness, and the the impression of speed. God knows one of the problems of real F1 broadcasts is that any impression of the speeds they're really running with are flattened by the cameras. That said, I also know that the car is not an F1 car, and I can never un-see it. I hear "we need to build a car for combat" and it rankles. I hear "Who said anything about safe?" and I can only imagine a world where the fatalities of the 1960 Belgian GP, and Jackie Stewart's crash at the same circuit 6 years later, didn't prompt Jackie to engage in an epic and legendary safety campaign in F1. This of course means a world where modern F1 would still be a horrific sport where drivers are morbidly celebrated and admired almost as superheros for putting their lives firmly on the line at every race, with few curbs and safety barriers, and trees around every corner. A world where those drivers that manage beyond all odds to survive each year in Formula 1 keep dreading the inevitable fan favourite race at the unmodified and deeply unsafe Nüburgring Nordschleife. A world where no safety campaign ever ultimately led to the creation of the Halo, which thus never saved the life of Lewis Hamilton from the spinning wheel of Verstappen's RB16B in their epic WDC battle that year, and as such this movie was never created. I will enjoy this movie, no doubt, for what it is, and I will enjoy it's depiction of the speed and competition of F1... but I cannot honestly say that I am going to be able to suspend my disbelief and accept it as being a meaningful representation of what F1 actually is, despite the many and numerous things about F1 it appears to go to great lengths to get absolutely right. It makes me sad, a little. It tries so hard and achieves so much, but by giving in to the temptation of just those few Hollywood tropes, it lets itself down so badly: I mean, I'm sure it's still great... but why settle for great if you were aiming for perfect!
I do appreciate that they're going to such lengths to make it as "authentic" as possible by filming at actual race weekends and not just relying purely on CGI. They just as easily could have gone the green screen CGI route and just slap a "F1" title on the box and be done with it. At this point the only thing that could make the movie bomb is the writing because I'm sure the race sequences will be top notch. 👌
It's going to be difficult for real F1 fans to watch this, without being constantly shocked OUT of the storyline by the improbability of racing a F2 car against a F1 grid, and with a 60+ year old driver, to boot.
The problem now with sports broadcast is depth of field. Sometimes they use a shot of the drivers, where the background is blured (bokeh)... but usually they use "no blur" so everything is in focus, but it looks kinda dry... so the filmic cameras in the movie and the onboards are nicer not just because they are higher resolution (its the fidelity, bokeh and colors combined). And I hope F1 will learn and use some of the new tricks from the filmmakers :)
As much as I would like this to succeed Hollywood will muck it up, "Ford V Ferrari" had speedometers in the cars. Le Mans was probably the only decent racing movie made, very little useless dialogue, lots of head games, ie: the pitstop in the rain at night with the Ferrari team manager waiting to go onto rains after watching Porsche.
SOOOO excited to see this movie when it comes out! It's about time someone made a movie like this with real racing, etc. It looks like BP learned a lot from “Top Gun: Maverick” in regards to the “immersive” experience. 🙌🏾
My guess is brad Pitt, the veteran dies in a accident and the young Lewis style driver becomes a multiple world champion who never forgets his mentor... Won't be going to see this in the theater.
At least they're using superview (wide angle). Would be nice to get these camera settings in F1, SBK and MotoGP... But that line about making a car fast around corners had me chuckling.

Car or racing movies are almost universally diabolical to those of us that are passionate about cars, and I fear this one may be no different. But the camerawork looks awesome, and since Lewis is said to be making sure the racing looks correct, I hope it saves it somewhat.

I don’t know why, but this comment specifically got me dying 😂
I mean how else would you have written it to make it interesting for the casual viewer?
Don't let a single line ruin your impressions on this, look at it in a bigger picture.
@@accent1666 Why do we need a tacky opening line anyway? Let the racing do the talking.
It was something technical for people who have no idea whatsoever what motorsport even is. I don't mind it, tbh.

Yes but this is a hollywood movie with F1 as a setting. Not a "documentary" making up fake story lines.
They should’ve muted the last few seconds of the trailer and just let the car make the sound
You are going to be horribly disappointed I'm sure!

Gran Turismo did this really well, mostly because the story was already real. They didn't need to invent characters like they did here.
unfortunately when the trailer has “so we need to be faster in the turns” and “a car built for combat”
I’m not expecting much. I mean they didn’t even say “corners”. like come on… if you really spent 12 months getting immersed in F1 then you’d know to say corners not turns. smh
that is a huge tell that whoever wrote the script is not an F1 fan and doesn’t know much of F1 or racing. so that also makes me pretty pessimistic about the quality of the story.
That first dialogue just completely ruined the immersion...what the hell was even that?

I assume its supposed to be an American team and they are stereotyping American attitudes, which in this case is the antithesis of how F1 has been run for 30 years.
They're gonna make the movie about fighting for 10th place the most intense thing ever
That movie was and is something else when it came to an 'immersive' racing film.
or James Garner's Indy car. Frankenheimer put auto racing in a whole other light with the cinematography in Grand Prix.
Its awesome.
The whole dialogue at the beginning of the trailer is just...awful. Battling them in the turns? Setting the car up for 'combat?' WHAT? 😂😂
Yeah, no one that has EVER driven on a racetrack speaks like that. Ever. This will suck.
Aston Martin and Alpine better send the engineers with a notepad to the cinema!
i agree no one in the racetracks speaks like that, but thats how Hollywood make dialogs and it works, Ford vs Ferrari has this level of cringy dialog and the movie was a hit.

"F1" does the same thing... very happy about that some 58 years later. looking forward to 2025!
The music makes it so much worse. It's such a bizarre choice of song as well
They play 'We Will Rock You' before every F1 race after the hosting country national anthem.
Tell me you are not an F1 fan without telling me you are not an F1 fan.
I've watched F1 for almost two years ( I realize that's not very long, but it's a fair amount) and I've never heard them play that song. I'm guessing the broadcast I'm watching skips it, because they skip the national anthem most of the time as well.
@@mvprime8what broadcast is that? I’ve never seen it
See, the problem for me as someone who follows F1 is that, well, I follow F1.
PS, if it doesn't have all the great F1 memes in it, I will be disappoint!
If Max Verstappen does not become the champion, my IMDb score will be 1 because then the movie is unreaL
Need I remind you that Lewis is a productor...
If Max appears , he will like the Kurgan in highlander
I do appreciate that they're going to such lengths to make it as "authentic" as possible by filming at actual race weekends and not just relying purely on CGI. They just as easily could have gone the green screen CGI route and just slap a "F1" title on the box and be done with it. At this point the only thing that could make the movie bomb is the writing because I'm sure the race sequences will be top notch. 👌
It's going to be difficult for real F1 fans to watch this, without being constantly shocked OUT of the storyline by the improbability of racing a F2 car against a F1 grid, and with a 60+ year old driver, to boot.
And don't forget the car that's set up for _combat_

0:45 This dialogue gave me the assurance this will not be a serious film about F1.
Watching that trailer I feel really strongly that I don't want to watch any more of it 😬
The problem now with sports broadcast is depth of field.
Watching since a youngin im so happy to see this film come to fruition. Rush was great but i hooe this film makes us feel reminiscent of the great rivalries like senna v prost to michael and mika to lewis and nico.
as big of a garbage as a F1 fan would expect
One of the best videos I've seen on this channel. Thank you for this in depth look at the film.
They don’t look like F1 cars at all. No amount of 🎵We will Rock You 🎶will change that…
Blame the Mercedes designers 😂 just watch the movie and enjoy the action. This isn’t a documentary or a movie made specifically for F1 fans. In fact most people who watch this probably won’t be F1 fans hense the “cringey” or “cheesy” dialogue at times. Just sit back and enjoy the fact we are getting a movie about F1. Isn’t that awesome?
@@futbol6505 Just consume product and then get excited for next product.
The first part of the trailer dialogue is like trying to make F1 into Call of Duty.
And how much were you paid, or are expecting from this hagiograhical tosh?
Thanks for this breakdown! Very interesting points and it’s so cool that we do get to see higher resolution footage and that it’s happening in real time. We are part of history, when we look back at it in the future. Definitely going to see it in theaters
Car or racing movies are almost universally diabolical to those of us that are passionate about cars, and I fear this one may be no different. But the camerawork looks awesome, and since Lewis is said to be making sure the racing looks correct, I hope it saves it somewhat.
The production is very high quality, hope the script and writing is too
