    The drawings are so good and realistic! I like how mischievous the animals are and I like how they drew the hippos with balls eyes, like in real life haha

    whenever i watch these old animations from the early 20th century, either a 30s disney classic or this, i dont know y, it gives me a profound sense of inner peace. i love it!

    is not just an old animation
    but also the properties contained in the film
    like a sink, it reminds me of grandma's house
    and other things, make you miss the atmosphere of the past

    Taro is the son of a very wealthy family.
    I can't believe there were such wonderful model trains in those days. How much did it cost?
    But the fact that the futon is "Kaimaki" on a nice bed is so emotional lol😺

    It was hard to watch this because I kept wondering, "How many of those children died a few years later in WW2?" Knowing what was coming was too distractingly sad.

    Oh wow the quality of the animated drawing is unbelievable, it is so rich in meaningful details, well defined characters and realistic behaviors. No surprise kids were better raised in those days than anything after WWII to today.

    Innocent pretend time for children...what a novel concept. I'm old enough to have similar memories like this before media-centered electronic gadgets got in the way of kids having fun with one another.

    That was nice, Neat little fusion where the dream is Anime (animated) and real life is live action. Cute how the boy dreams of bring a railway conductor, though admittedly my dreams more resemble Thomas but this was a good film.

      CompletelyNewguy Indeed, understandingly, she seemed ashamed, and unhappy about it.
      Although it’s been a while since I studied Japanese History, I think that women of that time wanted to appear graceful and elegant, hard to do so when someone else litters like a dumpster.

    Does anyone know who the manufacturer of the toy train was? Apparently it was O gauge, and seemed to represent a Japanese train during the steam days. @5:09

    Многие недоумевают, как такой культурный народ, как немцы, мог дойти до такого палачества. Но я ни разу не слышал подобных ламентаций по поводу японцев. Возможно потому, что японская культура - аниме, в частности - менее известна европейскому обывателю? Взять хотя бы этот очаровательнейший мультфильм. Ну кто поверит, что Таро спустя 10 лет будет тысячами расстреливать китайцев?

    Why were the japanese always interested in human looking animals? I thought this was a late trend with those kawaii vomit anime sh!t, but it seems they were into them long before anime.

      They're were the reason we have furries here in the west. Also they were easier to draw without getting into the uncanny valley.
