0 - 100 years in Japan

- 100 Japanese people, from baby to 100 year-old. In April 2023 I visited Japan and shot this version of the 0-100 year project mostly in Tokyo. Contrary to how I usually work, I did not hit the streets to randomly approach people to ask them to participate. Japan asked for a more formal approach, contacting people through several networks of local assistants and enthusiasts who were so kind to help out. The result is this lovely series.

Wow. The older people in this video have lived through so, so many things. Truly admirable.
Its amazing most elders do not have a receding hairline too
Ww2
@@kevwjin Anyone alive during that time would have been a kid. Or at most a very young adult. Any kind of blame game nonsense on these people is ridiculous.
@@kevwjin way to miss the point, they meant that the fact that they still persevered through everything is admirable.
Old people: 😐
Old people, Japan: 🤯😱
The fact that the voices of the elderly are so clearly heard is astonishing
The Japanese put a lot of care into how they speak! Compared to Americans anyway XD
@@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhimis that the reason most Japanese elderly spend their last moments in elderly homes?
@@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim being American has nothing to do with it
@@Kawaiicandy504as an American, I will say being American plays into it. Japan is very strict with their formal and informal language. American English compared to other English speaking countries has a lot of slang and informal language. We Americans just don’t put in as much effort in language than other countries/languages do. While American English isn’t the worst sounding as someone ages, it isn’t the best either.
yeah it's a simple poor language@@quab_II
Rad video. I love these. It teaches you that life is fleeting. Imagine if you saw a video of yourself at 100 and each one of the years was yourself! Life is precious.

oops, your mom's still alive🤣that's a good thing tho!
This is a beautiful realization that we're all the same and we keep coming and going. I just love people even more now. I don't know how to explain this feeling... there are so many of us in this world, but none of us is a special with the world revolving around them. This helps me realize what I really want to be before I turn that old and probably helpless.
honestly videos like these put me at ease. Getting old sounds scary, but seeing how much I still have ahead of me is a little comforting. I wanna live until a 100, have kids and grandkids and do my best to give them the best childhood.
you seem like a wonderful person, there’s no need to worry. for the majority of your life you’re “old” which means you really aren’t that old. 40 is considered kinda old, but for the people towards the end they were that age 60 years ago and are still kicking on strong (: no worries man. you have a wonderful, peaceful life ahead of you.

idk why im tearing up as the video goes to the older age. Life is precious, live and enjoy as much as you can.

Even older people still look young. We can see why the Japanese people live longer than others 😊

Well at age 60… the eternal young asian beauty usually disappear
I think your perception of the elderly was simply flawed, so now seeing humans of all ages displays truly how humans age. But, due to the video consisting of eastern humans rather than european humans, you instead attributed their surpringly young appearance to them being Japanese.
It's amazing! So natural beauty of people. Thank you for the video!🥰

Now I'm interested in your comment, since i wonder how people can feel proud of something they didn't chose 🤔
@@galaxydave3807 While it is true that people do not choose their nationality, they can still develop a sense of pride in their country through their connection to its culture, values, accomplishments, or contributions. National pride can manifest as an appreciation for one's country's history, cultural traditions, natural beauty, or societal progress. Having pride or some attachment to one's country is in my opinion normal and healthy behavior.

Amazing people and culture!! They are so polite!! I'm from Malaysia and we, as part of the Rotary Club was hosting some young Japanese traveller. I recall his name was Takeuchi. We all had dinner at a restaurant when unfortunately the subject of WWII inadvertently came up. Our guest Takeuchi-san stood up, bowed his head and with sadness and remorse apologized to us for Japanese atrocities in Malaya and the world during WWII. We were so surprised and taken aback. There was stunned silence... Then he sat down and we all smiled and continued our dinner in a happy but respectful mood. Takeuchi-san, wherever you are, all the best.
You'll find him in wholesomeness
Wonderful story, I also found the Japanese very respectful, kind, social and civil :-)
That’s so kind of him!
as a malaysian it's good when at least some japanese recognize their war crimes. not that they may be directly responsible, but it's certainly better than the refusal of apology japanese authorities have maintained.
