Man, I love the first seson of Berserk so much, but they had to completely ruin the rest of it with that strange noises of the sword, overly bright colors and much more😔

I remember reading this old Japanese folk tale many years ago. The artwork is exquisite and even the early animation enhances the feeling of watching a live tapestry of the strory
The animator did a superb job of conveying emotions of the characters. And check out the dance moves of the first beggar! The music complements the scenes perfectly. (The winged creatures remind me of the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.) This is great, thanks for posting! 👺
My friend understands Japanese. This is what the actual translation says. Jirobei: Tarobei, please grant me this favor and stay home. Tonight I will go in your place. My stick dance will dazzle them and then grab the gift while they're distracted.
Two things I *really* like here: The part about a man falling asleep in a hollow tree, in a heavy rainstorm~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fantastical yet realistic, ancient and timeless~~~ And, the animators' strong focus on facial expressions.......
Interesting how the irish legend of Knockgrafton tells almost exactly the same story, and they both share the basic motive with the german fairy tale of Mother Holle. Thx for the upload!
I remember back in the 1980s, I had read a chinese version of this story. Also, the imposter had a fan, instead of a stick in his dance routine. I had no idea that there was a japanese version of this story, let alone the animation too. Thanks a lot for having this rare video for all to see. 👍

There is an old English 'joke' I heard as a kid, 60 odd years ago, about a hunchback and a cripple (original terminology) that tells a very similar morality story. This is obviously a decades earlier and tells it with much, much more beauty. It just goes to show that nothing is original.
@@hebneh They are called Tengu, which for whatever reason literally translates to heavely dog, but that doesn't make any sense so most people call them Goblins.
@@japanfanatic1415 I now understand that there are different types of tengu; the upper-level ones look like this main character presiding over this gathering, meaning like a man with a long nose. This face is often seen as a carved wooden mask. The lesser tengu are the bird-like ones.
I've seen these referred to as a "wen" which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "an abnormal growth or a cyst protruding from a surface especially of the skin".
I like the fact that the art style is more realistic. In that time, cartoons had a cartoonish style
now all became so dramatic
Almost 100 years ago and still has a better animation than berserk 2016-2017. Amazing art
Why you gotta hurt us w/ that reality??

Pointing to the guy with his eyes was precious, what a talent
Cool detail :)
Damn we can say that the artist take a lot of time and did this masterpiece very carefully for the viewers

Those winged creatures are tengu and the leader is the non bird kind. Tengu are thought to really exist.
👺
This emoji is even a Tengu Mask.
Yep definitely tengu if I'd ever saw one or multiple in this case 👺
graças a eles temos animes hoje em dia
07:31 One small glitch in the subtitle. It should read "Tarobei, I beg you, please send me instead tonight"
Yes i saw that too but i didn’t know the translation
tks man

4:50 wtf, this guy are wearing Adidas
He loves some hardbass
it's uamee, ancient daemon of late-night-slav-parties-at-floor-above
The fact that the crows back in the day also used to go “aho” which even today can be seen in many anime baffles me
damn, the frame rate and level of detail of this particular animation is so ahead of its time
Interesting how the irish legend of Knockgrafton tells almost exactly the same story, and they both share the basic motive with the german fairy tale of Mother Holle.

It's probably a proto-Indo-European core myth
Can't thank you enough good sir.
You're definitely welcome!
Whoever found this needs blessings for luck alone. It is wonderful to see 1929 anything, let alone one of the first animes.
damn the animation is smoother than some animated shows today
wow, this came out one year after "steam boat willie" and it still tops that XD.

What is it in his jaw they take what is the lump
.
even today in some animes the crows still screaming "idiot, idiot!" at the end of some funny tragedy
The music is catchy AF
I didn't know the anime trope of birds calling people idiots was this old. Lol
This is kinda wholesome.
I love the story!
So much wisdom being shared in this clip🙏🏾

Thanks for the subtitles!!
This is a masterpiece!
this is amazing i saw a new version of this animation and i love this for its simplicity
For early animation this is amazing! I love the Tengu 👺👺👺
9:13 that’s a 360 backflip, how they are not amused by this guy? 😂😂😂
They knew it wasn't the same guy who entertained them with the dancing

こんなに昔からクオリティーの高いアニメが制作されていたんだ素晴らしい歴史です
This is actually Incredibly impressive for the era. What’re the names of the mythological creatures in this animation called again?
The leader with the beard and long nose is called a dai-tengu, while his birdlike subordinates are known as karasu-tengu.

I need this kind of story of animation. Love it And Thanks for Eng Subtitle.
That last joke was too good 😭 omg!! "Baka" sounds just like a bird noise and doubles as an insult. So clever.
It's "Aho", not "Baka".
Aho. It means Fool!
One of my favourite now 😭😭❤️❤️
Better than todays anime
the animation is amazing
It's so smooth

Утренней свежести! И добрых дел.
10:20 this part of crows saying "idiot"/aho reminds me of childhood Naruto
10 minutes more exciting and interesting than all the animes of today
this ost slaps
Better than messed up modern anime ☺
I love the dancing of the good guy, looks pretty modern. The music is cool as shit too.
Excellent Dungeon Synth music 🙂
And it is as informative as edificatory
Funny story and some nice animation.
Woah! Dude's got moves like Jagger!
Legendary anime
This is kind of...scary
This is like SUPER old and I mean it, and I am not really into old tv shows or stuff like that but for some reason I found this actually interesting?

This is really really good Japanese first animation interesting more episode

I'm really curious about the number of people and length it took to complete this back in its time.
Does anybody know what this music is?
Anime before anime.

He heard the song of the desert land from singamon
Incredibly amazing, people think the first anime was Astro boy, man were they wrong. Their missing out!
Earliest surviving anime was released over ten years before this. Namakura Gatana.
Mais um filme com trilha sonora de Kondjira

Anyone know the name of the music

Yeh they were saying aho which also means idiot. Crows used to make that sound so it really fits
Not gonna lie the demon music kinda *SLAPS*
Wich instrument was used to make the soundtrack? Sound like a synthesizer or an electric piano
The bird-headed characters remind me of Jaken from the manga Inu-Yasha.
Maybe not a coincidence.
The bird-headed is a Tengu 👺 and that's emoji is a Tengu mask , you can easely recognize the long nose .
