Heat N Glo Fireplace Won't Light

- The pilot would light but the flame would not ignite. This fireplace has an electronic ignition system with NO standing pilot. The control module and control valve are manufactured by Dexen. The orange wire to the valve controls the pilot flame and the green wire controls the main burner. This solution only works if the pilot lights, the spark igniter stops sparking, and the pilot flame stays lit while the main burner fails to light.
If this video helped you and you are feeling generous my Venmo is @flueandflame.

Thank you for posting this video, I just attempted to light my Heat & Glo 6000 for the first time this season. The pilot lit but the fireplace would not light. Followed your directions and after several taps with the screwdriver I was about to give up and suddenly it lit. I cannot thank you enough for posting this!
This was hugely valuable! I was about to call a repair guy until I came across your video. You saved me the hassle and expense of finding someone to come out to my place.
Glad to help.
Worked like a charm, exactly like shown on video. A few taps with screwdriver and the unit lit right up. Thank you!
BINGO!! This worked on my Heat N Glo Grand-i35 LP gas fireplace insert...AMAZING. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you! This resolved my issue. Heat and Glo 6000 and just took a few taps. I had to turn it on and off a few times and tap the valve each time to get it to open on its own.
I have been in my house 3 years this month! It was fixed when I bought the house but I waited until the Fall to use it. It would not light across. Two of my neighbors have the same problem. After hours of combing through the internet, I found your video!! It lit right up and I spread the word to my neighbors! Thank you so much!
I'm glad you found this helpful.
Thank you! Here we are in October and unable to get service call for the fireplace until January. Found your video and your solution worked exactly as shown. Thanks again!
I'm glad this helped.
Thank you! My fireplace is a Majestic Ruby series Insert not a heatilator however I could not get a service call until January so I found your video and thought I would give this a try anyway and this worked exactly as you have shown for my Majestic insert as well. Thanks again for the solution and for saving me what the technician said would most likely cost $495.00 to fix!
I'm glad it worked out for you. Majestic was bought by Hearth and Home Technologies which also makes Heat N Glo and Heatilator. Their valves and control boards are interchangeable among the three brands.
THANKS SOOOOO MUCH! Worked first tap on my 10 year old heat and glo wall gas fireplace
Crazy, isn't it?
Thanks!!!! Gently knocking the right side worked!!!!
Great. Glad it helped.
Thank you! Just what I needed
THANK YOU! worked like a charm
Awesome video! Thanks!
Amazing!!! Solved the problem. Thank you!
Glad it helped
Oh my goodness it worked you Rock Thanks so much for posting!!!!!!!!!
Glad to help.
You are the man! I tapped mine and poof it light up. Thank you
Weird, isn't it? I'm glad it worked out for you.
Thank you!!!
Work like a charm!
Thanks! I found that I had a defective wall switch.
You're the man - stuck valve!
Heatilator and Heat-N-Glo are both made by Hearth and Home Technologies. The valve and electronic parts for these brands are interchangeable. Tap the green side of the valve to get the gas to flow to the main burner. Tap the orange side if the gas is not flowing to the pilot. (That will be in a separate video)
Exactly the problem I was having. Proper voltage at the solenoid and about 58ohms resistance across it so everything seemed right. Just took about 3 sharp taps.
Your's was really stuck. Glad you fixed it.
I just got a brand new heat n glo installed. It lights and the flame comes on and then it dies down to like nothing and starts beeping at me. Could be the same issue? My landlord has left me high and dry
Just remember ...The other side of every tool is a hammer...😀
I have never had to do this tho mine does get stuck every 3 years...I cycle it on and off 20 or 30 times and that has always worked for mine....Eventually tho I may need the hammer.
Russian components, American components...... all made in Taiwan! you smacking it reminded me of the scene from Armageddon at the end of the movie with the Russian cosmonaut smacking the engine with the wrench to make it work lol
Whatever works, right?
Mine pilot lights along with the main burner but then turns completely off and on intermittently, would that be the pilot valve sticking?
I already changed the control module and the same thing happens.
The flame sensor may be the problem. check the flame sensor wire for continuity.
Update video for this problem. ua-cam.com/video/cMbJy4-UCyY/v-deo.html
Are you really fixing it? Bad solenoid, why not replace valve?
I used to replace them, but realized that the solenoid was not bad, the plunger was just getting stuck from lack of use. The valve replacement was around $300. Smacking it was saving the customer money. The valve can be replaced but I didn't feel it was in the best financial interest of the customer.
