    This is a very fair review, I particularly liked the way you regulated the watch and showed the position variation on the timegrapher. I agree the date function is what ruins the watch for me. I have one and only wear it for a few days when the correct date comes up 😂. For a little more money, I bought the 200m stainless Amphibia/Komandirskie models without date and they are brilliant. The 200m watches are a lot thicker, so I have converted mine to hand winding non-date movements which in my opinion gives the best of both models.

      I was sorely tempted to try out the Amphibia instead but the more playful dial choices on the Komandirskie line won me over (though I did search for one that appealed to me with a no-date since I KNEW I wouldn't care for the lack of a quick-set).

    Many collectors are enamoured by Vostok. I purchased one of these for my Son. The absence of auto quickset is a throwback from the cheaper watches of the sixties. In typical Soviet style, the band appears to be made of cardboard. Still, they have a certain charm in this world of hi tech. .

    I nearly just spat my coffee. I have the identical Komenderskie with blue dial submarine and anchor, and fitted it with the exact same strap and colour combination.
    Anyway the case is actually finished in a titanium carbonitride plating that Vostok spent a long time developing, and of course the case back is stainless.

      Like you say, at the price it's a bargain and a bit of history on the wrist

      Yeah, I have this same watch as well and the review is very fair and accurate. What I like most about the 431289 is the blue dial. It's not a consistent shade of blue from top to bottom, it's a lighter blue at the top (the sky part) to a darker blue at the mid-lower (water part), and grabs my attention like the champagne dial of the 1963 Chinese pilot's watch.

    Diesel sub, charging the batteries. Good call. As for the date, I have 2 Vostoks, the Komanderskie and an Amphibia that are probably the watches I wear the least so what I like to do is wear them, set them down and pick them up in 31 days. May wear them for a few days and then start all over again. One of the benefits of no quick-set is that you can make a no-date with no ghost position, I wish Vostok would do that more. Thanks.

      Yes I thought they'd have such an easy time making no-date models, but I suppose most people who want a watch like to have a date included. I actually often try and hold on the rotation even on my quick-set watches to minimize me having to change them much (anything to maximize my laziness!).
      Thanks for the information on the sub!

    I love these watches. Friction bezel tightens with water pressure - by design, crown is loose by design due the clutch mechanism that disengages when screwed down hence more shock resistant, the two piece back means you never ever replace the super thick flat washer. The crystal is designed to deform and seal better under water pressure. The watch will stop first before it ever leaks (due back bending in) when I saw it tested to 3000M (3km) in a pressure tank. crystal breaks around 2km

    I usually only wear my Komandirskie when the date wheel is on the actual correct date. LOL!

      That is what I did last week. I looked and "it was time!"

    Best 40.- I ever spent on a mechanical watch. You get what you pay for. And that's just right.

      Given the sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine invasion I assume supply to importers has been drying up but I've never looked into the specifics.

    So.. Doesn't Hack.. Poor lume and.. Out of curiosity.. How deep do you dive.. I thought 20m was pretty deep for someone who doesn't dive..

    • @WatcheswithDennis
      @WatcheswithDennis  Рік тому +2

      I don't dive at all! The issue is water resistance is a bit of a misleading number. It relates to the pressure the watch can take not the actual depth you can take it (I assume this may be because if you are diving, when you swim your movement actually increases the pressure against the watch versus what the depth by itself would do, but that's wild speculation). The guides I've seen on how to interpret water resistance basically follow this structure:
      30M = splash proof
      50M = shower proof
      100M = swim proof
      200M = diving
      So, at 20M it's around the splash-proof rating but not quite up to that so it makes me nervous. Like, would it be a problem if I'm caught wearing it in a downpour?
