same thing happened to mine after 1 week of use, I banged it against my hand a few times then decided to oil the spring, it has worked fine and around -3 to +5 seconds per day for 6 years now

If you do that hack to set the date you can damage that watch. It is not designed for that back and forth hack motion. That’s the main reason I got the non date version instead of this version. I did not want to take that long to change the dat properly.
If it didn’t break then, it would have broken in the future if you hack the day date in that back and forth action.

Vostocks occasionally do this, all you needed to do to get it running was to screw the crown back in, then give it a single solid slap into your palm, face down. It'll fire right up!!

Hi Matt, I've had this issue with Vostoks before. Try a firm bang into the palm of the hand to start it up or a 2 foot drop onto a carpeted floor. Must admit though the number of winds you put in it doesn't bode well for the clutch.

Thanks for the comment sir. I have been in contact with the seller and he suggested the same thing. Gave it a few really good whacks and unfortunately it is still not working. Hoping to get a replacement in so I can do a follow up video. I really like the look of the watch and as you have seen I have an old Vostok that runs just fine. It runs a little slow but it runs. Thanks for the information.

@@rockthewatch Where did you buy it from? I've heard good things about Meranom, but I haven't bought anything myself (not yet anyway, but I've got my eyes on a 24-hour Kommandirskie). Also, your old Vostok might need servicing.

I'm in my 2nd Vostok. My first was a manual wind Komenderskie which amazingly is staying to within 5 seconds a day. So I got carried away and bought a much more expensive Amfibia red sea which is in a different quality league but is running 30+ a day. Vostok do allow up to +60 but I reckon it can do better so I'm now attempting to regulate it.

Although this video was posted about a year ago or so ago, and the issue has been hopefully resolved, I thought I'd add my late comments to this thread.
To me it looks like the watch was more than likely to have been damaged during transit with the flywheel being possibly knocked out of allighnment.
Vostok's are known to be tough, but remember it's still an automatic watch.
There's no bubble wrapping around the actual watch inside the box as Meranom usually supply their watches with and the outer envelope looks very flimsy to be shipping a watch in.
The parcel was probably carelessly tossed around like a football by the shipping company many times before you received it.
It's doubtful that Vostok would allow a watch to leave it's premises without first checking if it functions properly.
It seems the problem could lie with the seller for insufficient packaging and not the factory.
I have also unfortunately received many badly damaged watch boxes from Amazon.

Happened to some times, you just need manually change (full rotation) the date some times

That's a bummer for sure. Seems like the newer movement in the K34s gets a lot more love from their techs I have two that are amazingly accurate for how cheap they are. Much better than my old 2602 Zim movement (you know the redialed and "refurbished" 80s remake radiation models) although even that runs perfectly. Although I thought the auto Komandirskies did not have the wobbly crown. Might just be the K34 series. None the less I may try and pick on of these up from Vostok's official site I've had good luck there and its cheapest.

Wow!......Dude that sucks!! But you got it from Amazon, thats a legit company. I have two Vostoks, an Amphibia (090916)/2415b movement, and a Komandirskie, 24 hour dial, (650541)/2431 movement. I wear and use these watches as beater watches. I've also "modded" both of my Vostoks. Switched the metal bracelets for Barton canvas or silicone straps. Also added a glass caseback to both watches!

Thank you sir. I think Vostok’s have a lot of character. I hope they will replace it. I was a little irritated at first and wasn’t sure if I would get another one but after I have had time to calm down I think I will pick another one up.

    Hello!
Thanks for the review. I just bought a Komandirskie 2416 movement. I like it!
I had the same issue of the second hand stuck. The watch works well. But when the charge goes off, when I try to wind it, it blocks. Does anyone knows why? Probably it’s because I’m not doing it well. I wonder if someone knows a hack or trick. Thanks !

I'm posting this a little late... I have the complete yellow one and when I wind it the same thing happens and what you have to do for the seconds hand to work is shake the watch since this vostok is automatic and wind-up and you must make the internal rocker move just as you would do with a traditional automatic watch and that's all, this is not even explained in the manual

I bought an automatic Vostok watch last year. Looked great but quit working after two weeks. Will occasionally run for an hour then quit. Sent an email to Vostok and they basically said tuff luck (in Russian). So in my drawer it sits. $240 wasted. Ended up getting a Samsung watch. Works great and has lots of cool uses besides making phone calls on it. So my prediction is instead of the Quartz crisis of the early 80's we are now entering the digital crisis. The appreciation people were beginning to feel for mechanical watches will quickly be squashed by all these crappy watches and crap service.

Dateless submarine dial is awesome!!! I have one of those in an Amphibia case with Amphibia hands that says antimagnetic on the dial. My favorite. So what happened with the overly mellow yellow? Did you send it back? So they could sell it to someone else? Did you get a replacement? The automatic should have been working right out of the box, wound by the box moving.

The watch seems to have been delivered with the movement being stuck, which most likely is some form of shipping damage or lubricant settling unfavourably.
Vostok does regulate and supposedly test their movements in the factory, as seen in the few documentary UA-cam videos of their factory.
But holy frick, you put way too much wind in it after it did not start ticking.
I've seen 20 twists being recommended as the maximum for getting it going but I lack the experience to confirm this.
With how (infamously) simple the movement is, despite it being an automatic, overdoing it by an order of magnitude probably broke the mainspring.
At which point, it's fully dead until this part gets replaced, no matter the condition of the rest of the movement.
The jump of the seconds hand can be from the slack in it's gear train, Vostoks are known for their jumpy seconds hand.
This can still move a few seconds with the rest of the movement being fully seized otherwise.
Admittedly, seeing the failure mode of the movement arriving seized was useful, though my intuited solution would have been the same.
By law of small numbers this video can not serve as an indication of the movement reliability. Especially after the over-winding treatment, making the cause hard to diagnose.
For crying out loud though, the SNE361 you are comparing it to is a modern Solar Quartz piece, this is a Mechanical Automatic with an ancient movement design.
A better comparison would have been some Seiko 5, such a piece probably suiting your better by not offering a hand-winding feature that can be ham-fisted.
It is fair to dislike mechanical pieces for their comparatively unreliable and fragile nature, it being a functionally outdated technology, but mentioning this distinction is important.

Overwinding is a myth. It's just a faulty watch. It happens.

    • @Alias_Anybody
      @Alias_Anybody 4 роки тому +5

Overwinding? You can do that with a pure handwinder (breaks the main spring, but you'll feel A LOT of resistance), NOT with an automatic.

    • @Trump2024Kentucky
      @Trump2024Kentucky 3 роки тому +2

Over winding can be done on some watch’s and on others it can’t. Depending on the movement. But the hack of winding it backwards to set that date is never good on the internal clutch of the watch. Did that break it, I don’t know but it is certainly not recommended.
