We need more organizations like the Boy Scouts. I did a similar thing with a group called Adventurelure in New Hampshire when I was 11, 13, & 14. We hiked, kayaked out and camped overnight on an island, hiked a mountain at night when a thunderstorm rolled in, rock climbed, white water rafted, and rode mountain bikes 300+ miles from Canada into Maine. It was a formative and incredibly positive life building exercise.

My boys and my daughter are part of the BSA. There are girls troops and boys troops. They work the same scouting program but they don't do it together. Duty to God is still very much a part of the program, as is a heavy emphasis on Citizenship. There are a lot of great kids in the BSA, and some incredible people who actually do the program the way it's supposed to be done, and not in a "woke" way. Girls have been part of the BSA for 25 years, in a program called Venturing that has both boys and girls, ages 14-21. The BSA opened things up for girls 5 years ago and my daughter was thrilled to finally have the same opportunities as her brothers. This is honestly a change in name only. The program itself isn't going to change, nor is the way scouting is "done" going to change. Couldn't exclude anyone if you tried, but I don't think a bunch of trans kids are going to be itching to get in.

It wouldn't surprise me if a black kid didn't know the word "computer." I substitute taught at a middle school once that was predominantly minority. I commented to the class about at offensive mad scientist poster that I saw in the hallway and said there were lots of different scientist like black scientist. One black kid, who often got into trouble apparently, said "there are black scientists?" it was pretty devastating to hear how broken our education system is.

I find Ben interesting and very intelligent. I know he's trying to get people to vote for Trump this year. Ben always talks about being a family man. I wonder if he cares whether the President (whomever it is at the time) is a good role model for his children to look up to, and if he feels or even cares whether Trump is a role model at all. I'm in no way a Biden supporter, but I'm not a Trump supporter either. I do feel that someone who leads a country, in a perfect world, SHOULD be a good role model. However, maybe that's so far-fetched and way too much to ask of leaders nowadays that people have to put up with trash humans for leaders. There are good people out there.
