- Happy thanksgiving everyone.
For those that saw the Intake testing with the S2000...
We decided to test an OEM paper filter, against the K+N. The Air Box Mod and then the Comptech intake again.
We finished off with some heat Sock testing.
We hope this gives you some ideas and future savings.
S2K owners should really thank you for your time.
Thank you for your time and effort testing those S2000 products 👍
I have this air box mod with the k&n filter, pwjdm snorkel (not the complete intake, just the snorkel), but I have the password jdm carbon Kevlar intake lid for the oem box to match the snorkel. Would the carbon Kevlar lid heat soak more than the plastic oem intake lid? It’s a very thin Kevlar…The CT lid is carbon so not sure if that adds to the heat soak. Clearly intake temps drastically affect these cars, just trying to get the most out of the kit. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for all you do for the community.
man i love the look of the silver dancer. Also, i cannot tell you guy enough just how much i love and appreciate these kinds of videos. good stuff. Happy Thanksgiving LHT, I'm thankful for your great content and commitment to S2000 and Hondas in general. I have a similar story, when i was working R&D at K&N, we had a guy come in from Canada to try and pitch K&N on his filter and tube designs. His filter was an enclosed tube type, it was still a cotton & screen type like the k&n's filter but it was enclosed in a tube with a velocity stack at the end. We tested it all damn day. In the end k&n passed on his pitch, but it was interesting testing it all day.
Thanks for doing these tests and comparisons. They are great! I'd love to see if the snorkels make a significant difference.
Can you please do a video on HFC?
Do you think adding a snorkel to the stock intake box will add more hp?
Maybe not much, but will allow more cold air which will equate to more.
Please could you do one more test, the FIPK and stock airbox?
Love to see those results I’m currently running the K&N with air box mod. Your testing has validated my setup!
I’m running the same setup. Good choice.
Same here
On intuition, did this air box mod and K&N filter swap over 15 years ago. So nice to see my intuition validated. Now if I could only smooth out that dip just before VTEC activation.
Find me another business owner that says "this filter is not worth it but i will sell it to you if you WANT to buy it". The honesty in this channel and company is rock solid
So true. Love this channel. Has saved me a lot of money from parts I dont need but been told I do need.
I have the K&N FIPK on mine, very doubtful it adds any extra HP whatsoever (despite the manufacturers claims), but what it does add is noise, particularly at VTEC crossover. 2nd gear VTEC sounds utterly Biblical 😁. Moral of the story: aftermarket intakes are for huge noise only with no power gains, if you want a bit of both then go airbox mod, aka OEM+ 😁. Great test 👍👍👍.
Some people close that intake against the bonnet and they add a snorkel up front. I'd love to see a dyno result on it because it's a simpe DIY and sounds amazing! I hated my K&N intake and swapped to the modded oem box, but it does sound the best.
How about remove that sponge filter. They’re trash
Great video, congratulations! does anyone know the K&N filter code?
I watched "the Humble Mechanic" ( UA-cam) test an aftermarket intake against the OEM Air Box for heatsoak. As with your test, the OEM Air Box faired better in minimizing heat soak and IA temps. It seems hard to nail down test results by the aftermarket intake makers.
Thank you for actual verifiable test results of the intake mod, including testing with the hood closed. Nice touch.
Thanks for this extremely helpful video. Love to see the back-to-back testing without any bull...t. Great work. Would love to see anyone sending a Samco-intake-hose to LHT for testing against the OEM intake-hose in combination with the airbox-mod.
They’re tired doing the Samco silicone air hose intake 😂
@@mushy18100 why?
Fantastic video. It's a shame it's so rare to see this kind of A/B/A testing to see if popular mods actually work as well as our butt dynos think they do, especially expensive aftermarket parts.
Please share video and support us for more testing.
Is this being dynoed with the Hondata flashpro or stock ecu?
If I buy Ballade Sports cams, will you do the install and tuning to see if they improve the performance of my S2000?
Absolutely spectacular information. Thank you. Where do you source your data, before posting?
cheers lads for the research 👍🏻
I always throw a filter on my turbo cars for the extra sound. I dont think you see any power above a few hp unless you getting tuned. Love the dyno comparison videos
Could you please post chart of results in the summary? Averages for each config. Stock airbox stock filter, stock airbox k&n, modded airbox stock filter, mod box k&n filter, CT intake.
Thank you for your effort to s2000 community keep going GOOD JOB
I wish more ppl would go the extra mile to prove what actually works and what doesn’t vs just trying to sell you false hopes on something that’s pretty. Well done and thanks!
Very true I like thses kinds of videos they back up what they say with proof to bad for people who over payed for something that works better than aftermarket
This is valuable data for S2K operator. Respect to LHT.
Absolutely excellent video, thank you so much for doing this. Also thank you for doing the hood down test as I requested!
Very much enjoyed this intake series. Looks like I'll have to go ahead and do the airbox mod to my CR.
I have an 08 delete in RYP and I was thinking the same thing.
Hey john, you should add a test of airbox mod + k&n, with and without snorkel.
Great tests, thanks for that. But I'll keep my comptech intake I love it too much 😂😋
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at LHT Performance. Very thankful for you guys! Enjoy your day and gobble til you wobble.😁
That’s good Mick ! Happy thanksgiving to you
@@LHTPerformance Thank you, John.
Thank you very much, thank you for doing this and helping everyone who has a Honda s2000. your video I have reinstalled my air box :), Greetings from Latin America, Chile
Good stuff thank you.
Good data. Have you ever compared agaisnt the Takeda?
Would be awesome to see the same tests with the various aftermarket snorkels for the OEM air box or even the hps intake arm
Great video keep them coming. Hopefully you all have a happy Thanksgiving.
This is very bittersweet information.
Imagine paying upwards from $150 (depending on what kind type/brand) in intake mods that will perform worse than a K&N filter on a stock intake setup.
I personally prefer hearing my vtec crossover with my dc sport short ram intake on my 8th gen civic si…but I’m pretty certain these results would likely be similar for my car, seeing as the stock intake box system is pretty unique.
That said, any chance would you and George fancy the idea of doing this same test with his Mugen Si for us 8th gen civic si owners? 🙏
P.S. happy Thanksgiving to and your families.
Straight to the point and actual proof before and after awsome
I love your guys work! I justy paid of my s2000 and its in sad shape comapred to this one. I live in florida, wish there wasnt a 1 year waiting list to get some work done, but thats why you guys are porobably the best s2000 shop in the world.
Our wait time is typically 2 to 3 months. We do things a little differently here, one car at a time. It’s the way I would want my car work done given a choice. We would treat your car like our car, if it’s something you could make happen, we do our absolute best for you.
This is really neat to see, thankyou for taking your time to do this
thanks for the quality content as always John - and Happy Thanksgiving to all the LHT folks!
Great video s2k is one of the best car honda producers
You're doing God's work John. Thanks for helping the s2000 community
good video friend
Amazing work!
223-226 is a lot of power for a stock s2000 right? Don’t they typically make around 210?
A stock AP2 will do 212-218 on our dyno pretty consistently.
Nice, is that more than you typically see with ap1s or about the same?
Factory airbox + Mod + K/N + spoon snorkel = the best real world intake for power and sound.
True but to use the spoon snorkel you need a custom hood and if using replica the cross section is very small were it go over the upper rad support to clear the stock hood
@@legros731 not true, Spoon has a version that does not require the hood to be cut or altered.
@@adamwilliams4309 you are right just checked spoon website but back on the day when a modded my s2000 it was not available
And a can tell you the one that fit the stock hood do nothing apart from making road debris reach the air box like rock leaf and bug and I dyno tested it back then zero gain with it
That resonance frequency really only matters inside the intake runners and partly the plenum… An intake plenum that is too small will hurt power but it doesn’t matter how big you make the plenum there’s a limit and beyond that no gain is visible… the only frequency tuning that has any affect on power is the “wave” tuning via the intake runner lengths
Awesome information! (Except I have a comptech w a foam filter…😕)
My dude! You got a subscription here from America! Because you asked, your awesome, and this is awesome Honda content! I've been a Honda fan forever and just love the performance and driving experience of these cars. Thanks for the great insight. Going to do the air mod to my S2K!
Made u should design an airbox replicating the OEM one but with fancy materials like carbon fiber and aluminum
Brilliant as always, have you thought about testing larger throttle bodies and drop in cams shafts? Love the videos though and please keep up. David UK.
Do you remove the air duck on the air box lid ?
or just the dividing wall in the air box and block the resonator chamber
I'm halfway there. I have the K&N filter, I just need to do the modification.
Lht the box it self don close enough don't (seal) to the tube maybe this also the holes for the drain water also is not good for iat? Next time put to the test your heat shield I remember you made it right?
Thanks for your informative videos. One question what is that plate in front of the radiator?
Very interesting! 👏
I wonder if wrapping the oem box with gold heat-reflective tape would improve heat-soaked dyno runs.
(I’ve seen pics of that in the past on forums a few times… by road-racers/bumper2bumper-track cars)
Do you guys recommend a square tire setup or should I stick to a staggered setup for an AP1? I currently have 255/40 rear and 225/45 in the front. I was thinking about doing 245 or 255 all around.
Perfect Tests. Thank you. Will stay Stock in my S2000.
John, love the tangible results you demonstrated. Got to see you on the "Tuning by Nick" channel as well. A plate of turkey, a few glasses of French Perry, an LHT video. Perfect end to the day. Hope you and yours were able to celebrate. And yes, I did cook the turkey @ 500° F ;)
Thanks my friend.👌🏾👌🏾👍🏽
If you ever get a chance to tune a s2000 on E85, I know a few people that would be interested in seeing the results
I'm going back to factory airbox with a k$n filter
Thank you for these tests!! What do you think about the Spoon carbon air duct on the original airbox?
Great test! Thank you for doing it. I've always wondered if the airbox mod was worth it...
Love this type of education and experiment video. Exitoo!!!
Thank you for this tests mate, much love from the UK.
probably the only test we need is which sounds better everything else being equal
have u guys ever had an arc intake box on your hands ? this will forever be the coolest s2k intake imo, but it is so rare!
Amazing!!! Thanks LHT team!!
Man u r a legend! Wish I was in the states so I can bring my ep3 type-r for some lht tlc
Thanks LHT crew for the awesome vtec soundtrack 😁
Thank you for your hard work and honesty with the results. Big fan from New Zealand. I also have the same theory but there are people swore that CIA gave them gain on Dyno with bonnet open and ice pack and big fan bowing high speed air at the car. Honda knows best of their design.
Great test as always boys! However I must say I would very much like to see this same test on one of the rotrex c38 kits.
I would love to see an injen intake comparaison that would be awesome since that’s what i have
Enjoy the original air box mod!!!!
Good stuff! Thanks for taking the tests to another level to validate.
The aem v2 is a pretty decent cold air intake
Good show of what really works and what doesn't get it done.
Wish that CRX meet was closer to me
Greatly appreciate this video
Thank you for doing the tests!
I really love your videos and I did not buy an aftermarket intake because of many of these results. I bought a ballade sport replacement intake tube (my stock one tore) and have been using the aftermarket filter that came with the kit. But I do wonder, have you, or can you do a dyno test with a snorkel and the stock box mod? I see the S2000 community has a few aftermarket ones available but they are super expensive, but seems like getting direct fresh air might help. Any chance you know anyone who has tested this?
I don’t think you will see power Gaines per se, may be a better test would be to run the car around a road course and look into heat soak with and without the snorkel
Happy thanksgiving Jon!
@LHT Performance, Know the szie and thread pitch of the screws that secure the lid? I had a few back out
There no screw holding the lid only clip
But if you talk about the airbox 10 mm screw it m6 ×1.00
Curious if wrapping the air box with gold foil would make any difference with heat soak?
I’m not sure what gains you’d see. It has to make an improvement one long duration track use.
try some ITB's?
Man great stuff guys!!!!!
more testing please!!
good video like to see more
Get an AFE intake
Great video!
Great content!
John, I asked not long ago and you put out this gem video. Was looking on ebay earlier today for a stock airbox. 200 bucks unmolested. Did I hear you saying you have airboxes lying around? I would like to talk turkey, all pun intended. If so, let me know, I'll call you tomorrow.
Message me on IG. I may have 1.
@@LHTPerformance I don't have an ig account. Alternate comms?
This video is 10 years too late. THANKS for doing this.
I’ve been doing the air box mod for years. I’ve always promoted it but first chance I’ve had to actually test it back to back
Very nice video, thanks! Have you ever tested an AEM intake which goes all the way down to the bumper? Does it eliminate heat soak?
I ve seen it increases your HP by 2,in an other channel.
The aluminum pipe will heat soak way more than the stock rubber one
But after reving the engine the cold air will cool it down
it only affects the power after waiting at a stop light or idling for extended periods
@@legros731 so in the city at low speeds with some stops, or moving slowly im getting heat soaks and hiccups ?
👍
I have the airbox mod with a k&n filter. I remove the lid because I have a nacca airduct on the hood directly feeding cold air to the intake. it improved induction sound.. the filter has a hydroshield to repel water. I did as a little weatherstripping to the box to prevent heat soak. wish I could test it. great series of test videos guys. you rock..
FINALLY, an S2000 video!
We have had a few recent S2000 videos. They don’t always show up without looking into the ‘videos’ section on the channel.
Thanks Man !
I would like to see the stock air box mod with a spoon snorkel. With the hood down.
To close the hood with the spoon snorkel you need the custom spoon hood or cut the stock hood so not gonna happen
And the replica are way too narrow at the upper rad support section to fit the stock hood= not good
@@legros731 I’ve seen some people around my area running spoon snorkel with stock hood and didn’t have to cut anything. Only thing they cut was the plastic trim piece where it covers for the AC maintenance area I believe
@@Atx_s2k if it fit the stock hood it a replica the real spoon one are way thicker at the upper rad support area and will not fit a stock hood spoon made a hood especially for this
