When I worked at a Nissan dealership. They had a bulletin for axle clicking. We would remove the nut, back out the axle just abit and put molykote on the splines and in between the axle and wheel hub. Tighten everything back up
I've had that axel click for 6 months, I thought it was the diff from bouncing off T3 at RA😅. Now I m changing the wheel bearings after a year because i didn't retorque the freaking Axel nut. 😂 Teachable moment 🤦♂️
This could be the start of a new series. I have the perfect name: Tech Mondays 😁😁. Obviously I'm kidding, I remember the grief you got last time, but these videos are priceless. Thanks for making it 👍.
Nice video, thanks. I always understood that the torque specs assume dry threads, and that lubed threads torqued to the specified number on a torque wrench puts the pressure on the parts higher than spec. No?
The Honda manual says 180ft lbs, and update from Honda in early 2001 suggests 220lbs. I try not to quote specs in the videos as often people like to find fault argue these facts. Lol.
Hey John, are you confident in 220 I have heard 240ft is the latest specs. Can you confirm please. Also any update on the website really wanna get some parts from you and merch!
my axle boot is leaking grease and making the clicking noise. I retorqued it back to spec and it still makes the noise. Will having a bad cv axle make the same noise?
If I did this but forgot to lube the threads will I still have a clicking sound ? Or does that not really matter ? Cause I’m still having the noise , making me want to replace the wheel bearing
@@LHTPerformance I have not ordered it yet that would work for me I would love to go through you guys, I was not sure if I could get parts like that through you guys. I will send an email
Take the advice that makes the most sense. Over torquing not only put additional friction on the bearing but could also damage the thread on the axles.
@@LHTPerformance Visual comparison of how far the spline is pulled through could yield some insight too for comparing one that is clicking vs one that isn't.
Incredible fix. Clicking noise is gone. The whole rear end feels more direct now. Very satisfying
danny51981 Good. Glad it worked for you. 👍🏻
The most useful video on UA-cam today.

My axle are not even clicking but I really enjoy your contents.
I don't even have a s2k and I'm enjoying this video.

Yep, I figured I would try it again.

The lube isnt in the threads... it goes in contact surface by the nut and the bearing, not the axle and nut.
Gonna give it a try, many thanks for posting!
Thank you very much for your video, it was a headache for me as I can’t solve it even I changed the prop shaft.
Luckily I found your video
You guys are amazing.
More videos like this John :)
Great video ...what are the torque specs on the rear axle nut???
Great video, the click has been driving me crazy!
I hope this fixes it.
Will it also vibrate when you give it moderate force?
I can't get arp at my local auto store is there another lube that will work?
Will this cause a wobble as well at high speeds vibration
Wish i knew this when i had my s2000... the clicking drove me insane
Torque spec ?
My 06 S2000 clicks a lot switching from reverse gear. I will try this. But... how much torque I need to close the bolt?
Thanks from Italy

Re-torque of the axle nuts fixed my axle clicking!
Nice.
Good to know in case I ever run into this. Thanks

@@groovymane if enough grease has been lost the joint itself maybe making the noise.
I always remove the wheel if I need to get that little cap off, don't want to scratch it or put marks on it in general
The plastic interior tools do very well and don’t scratch if you know how to use them
could the honda assembly lube serve the same purpose in this application?
Great info John 👍

Thx man. This works
Thanks for the advice mate
Perfect to know before I order Ballade Sports rebuilt axels John what kind of axels to you typically recommend ? SC and NA S2000
I wanna know also god dammit!
Bradley Morrison We use and sell Rebuilt OEM axles from Gator Axles. Used them Gator for 15+ years.
Thanks for the response John, I just filled out an order sheet! I am excited to get the cheapest S2000 in Texas back in shape.
Bradley Morrison We could have sold you a set.

Do you mind sharing what the torque spec is?
220 ft-lb... or stand on the breaker bar.
Thanks for the info! That beat at the end is kinda hot lol...
Question if I may John do you know of any kits for adjustable steering column
Thank you!!! Worked for me
Opted for the revised 220 ft/lbs re-torque
On s2ki people often over torque them as they believe the factory torque spec is not tight enough. What are your thoughts?

Why do these splines have play designed into them in the first place ? Is it to allow for expansion or something ?
Yes. If it was a 100% perfect match it would be close to what’s known as an ‘ interference Fit’. That parts would lock together.
@@LHTPerformance Thanks
I wish ida had this info when i first got my s2000 years ago.....the click drove me crazy till i figured it out.
Happen to film the click noise?
No. But it’s very noticeable
Is it the same for the front?
Luca Cerbino The process is the same, the torque is different.
learned something new
When i move back & forth i here a clicking noise not turning
Good to know 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Had this problem on volvos and fords best fix was to pull cv out and grease splines and retorque bolt
90,000 miles no click!
First first ever!
